  1. Normal kickboxing is the sports platform for all the other martial arts to compete. That is karate tkd etc etc... Thanx for the posts peoples. Angus
  2. This may sound like i'm kissing ass or something here Ken but once again i agree with u. I just didn't want to argue with the head honcho of the place. I'l be quitting soon and moving over to the dark side of the force (ie Muay Thai) soon anyway. Thanx for all the replies peoples. More are welcome. Angus
  3. now, i've always thought that the roundhouse kick was the most important kick, but i was told by my sensei last night that the front kick is actually the best. I don't think i agree with this but after he almost put me on my arse a couple of times with a light front kick then i tended not to argue with him. Although i wonder what might have happened if i had done a MT roundhouse into him with my shin. Any opinions, especially yours Ken. Angus
  4. Wrong! wrong wrong wrong!! Now, this is an awesome exercise that i started doing about a month ago and already i have the ab muscles defined fairly well. Leg Lifts: -lay flat on you back. -hands under ur buttocks (one hand one cheek) -head and shoulders off the ground (so u can feel tension in your stomach). -have you feet 6 inches off the ground. -lift them 6 inches, then down (until they are 6 off the ground again). -repeat this in sets. I started doing about a hundred a night, but now i do 4 to 5 sets off 100 and it feels great!! Don't get me wrong, this HURTS SOMETHING FIERCE!!!! but the pain is so well worth it. Do as many as u can (u'l know if u'r doing them properly cos it will hurt like righteous fury) and then do that in sets. I think the most i've done in a row before collapsing is 217. THE PAIN! Angus
  5. I drip and rip and drip when i workout. In the overexertion thing i'm not trying to sound hardcore (although i am) but i burned out a couple of weeks ago and lost the use of my legs for a couple of hours. For the next coup[le of days i was really shaky and i also found that a sharp pain in my shoulder was due to a pinched nerve. I'm pretty much over everything now but i should take my own advice: 'work smarter, not harder' Angus
  6. I switch but i use different techniques qith the different stances. My main form is orthodox, but i can do the back leg roundhouse with both legs effectively, but when i'm right foot forward i tend to do a lot of slide up kicks and step spinners... Basically i'm stronger if i fight orthodox. Angus
  7. "and that's about the art" couldn't resist could ya Ken!? Angus
  8. I find myself teaching the guys at Karate some of the kickboxing and BJJ moves that i have learned. I'm only a white belt there at the moment but i can still kick their asses... Angus
  9. Maybe when i say kicking someone to the leg i should specify that i would kick to the knee joint... Obviously u can't cripple someone with a kick to the thigh... i mean the knee joint. Angus
  10. HapKiDo, Freestyle Kickboxing, Wushu, Zendokai Karate, Brazilian Jujutsu, Boxing and currently Goju Ryu Karate. On top of my Karate lessons each week i train (on average) 2 hours a day 4 days a week in various stuff such as weights, running, skipping and technque and bagwork. Recently though i had been training every day and now the doctor seems to think i'm gonna send myself to an early grave. Bah! Angus
  11. Heh, i couldn't help but think that that post was subconsciously aimed at me Lori... Angus
  12. Taezee.... dude.... wha?..... did u even read my posts? What you said as an argument just then makes no sense... U obviously didn't understand. I am saying that i CAN control my anger and put it to some use. CONTROLLED.... CONTROLLED..... CONTROLLED RAGE!!!! CONTROLLED! Sheeesh... maybe i shuld say it again, with extra emphasis... *(CONTROLLED)*!! fbsdjfhj fhs... I don't lose it, i don't flip out a quote: 'WHEN GIVING INTO ANGER IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO BE CONTROLLED'.... dude, this is exactly what i am saying and i am also implying that i have gotten past this... The fact of the matter is that i don't give into the rage. Whatever, WHATEVER! Angus
  13. I still reckon it makes me a better fighter... Angus
  14. Cool cool cool.... thanx guys. Angus
  15. Heh, yeah maybe.... i'm in training for my amateur kickboxing though... Hey Lori, i've got some pics of me and my new car, with my house and farm in the background.... i'l send them 2 u soon..... Angus
  16. Aw yeah, i'd love to train under Tui - just dunno if i'd even like to spar with him. I'd end up crying like a little girl. That's good advice about the watering eyes though. I'm gonna go smack myself in the head now and try that trick..... *breaks his nose* well, my nose is bleeding and i've cracked my front teeth, but my eyes didn't water... LOL... Angus
  17. What? do u think i'm suicidal? I wouldn't fight Alex Tui if u bloody well paid me! But seriously dan, a punch to the nose with a bare fist not only hurts, it makes your eyes water and it stings. But since we are talking about fighters then i take your point. I went off track a little and talked about brawling (my speciality)... Real street fights don't last that long, and i would imagine it would be the same if u were 2 experience fighters going at it in the street. Cos there are so many techniques that u use in the street that u do not use in the sport - groin kicks, eye gouges etc... Street fighting is so sloppy that it really wouldn't matter what u do, but i still reckon a good solid roundhouse to the knee is good to open with, and then a smack to the face. If they don't go down like a hooker on payday then u just keep laying into them. Smack them in the groin etc... Pull hair, and flip and break arms etc etc... U get my point. Angus
  18. HapKiDo is an ecellent art to start up in especially if u haven't done anything before. But my HapKiDo dojang was leaning towards the kickboxing side of things more than using TKD kicks etc... Angus
  19. So u use the phalanx tactic Ken? a weak centre with strong sides.... I like it. Angus
  20. Yeah, but not everyone is a kickboxer are they? I've seen guys go down to leg kicks plenty of times, they simply can't hack being smacked in the knee joint. Besides, a good strong kick into the knee will hurt, and they guy may want to stop fighting. You should always back up a kick. I find that if i load the hand while doing a roundhouse to the leg i can shoot out a hook or a cross or something. U can't tell me that a solid hit to the nose with a bare fist won't stop someone... especially if they've copped a smack in the knee as well... Angus
  21. That's absolute rubbish. I'd kick the feces outta him if he ordered me to do pushups and yelled at me etc. He doesn't even know how to do stuff so he is not worthy of being able to tell me what to do. I technically would out-rank him. This is why the martial arts are becoming a huge joke. I think the belt systems need scrapping. asgfhjksdfsdhg!!! Angus
  22. Hey all, There are no best styles... like the people said before, there is only what u bring in as ur wn style.. Angus-do, thaiboxerken-do, muaytb1-do etc etc... Angus
  23. I remember this one guy landed an awesome hook on my lip one time and split it right open, blood was pissing everywhere!! It was so good that after the scuffle i actually shook his hand and we're good mates now! I was in awe of it. Damn near knocked my teeth out. Angus
  24. Heh, i think i'l have to lay off the beer then.... bugger! That's probly what's doing it too, i do drink a fair bit of beer nowadays (now it's legal). To whoever suggested leg raises, i do hundreds each night, and they are fantastic! Although i can't do them at the moment cos the doc tells me to rest blah blah blah... i'm gonna do some now. He can bugger off! hdfasjkfgsdh sgafdgh fsdh!!! Angus
  25. I think if u open a fight with a kick then u deserve to have your leg broken (unless it's a kick to the knee - roundhouse)... Any for of kick in the street that is used as a first strike is a bad idea, cos u never know when a grappler is gonna b on ur arse. It's very hard to take down someone who throws a roundhouse to the knee though. I actually tend to incorporate an initial lock with a basic strike and then i come in with roundhouses and knees and elbows etc... Angus
