  1. Go with the Shorin-Ryu.
  2. Going for Shorei-Ryu this week. Cannot wait
  3. STOP! Think about what you're asking. Taking martial arts or not, that is going to be a problem. Could be considered a conceal weapon, and if you ever get pulled over for a traffic stop, I think the cop is going to have a hard time believing you without a gi on. Welding two quick sticks together? No! I have a police issue quick stick (extended... it's longer) I use it when I go running, mainly because I run at night, and you just never know. You shouldn't need to place a weapon in your car. If you do, you're hanging out in places you shouldn't be in the first place. I carry this for simple fact of self defence, just when I run.
  4. You answered your own question. [Talking to yourself] Am I really training hard enough? Do I have good balance? Is my form there? What about my power? Should I take more time to study? Perhaps add another day of the week? I believe it is just as important to focus on martial arts training as it is to have a social life. Do not let one out weigh the other. Just as you do in your diet, you need to properly balance your life!
  5. height: 4' 6" weight: 257lbs primary art: tai chi rank: 11th degree secondary art: fencing rank: supreme master of the world Titles and Awards: 8th grade spelling bee champ
  6. as the reply above stated... EAT! EAT! EAT! EAT!. Get yourself on a good clean diet for bulking. Set yourself around 3000 calories a day. Drink tons of water. Make sure you're taking in a good source of carbs and fat daily, and lift heavy. Go for 4-6 reps, 3 sets with heavy weights. Above all, give yourself time. Gaining muscle is just as hard as losing fat.
  7. I has proven in the past to be most effective on little children when they mis-behave. **Caution** If not used carefully, not only could you hurt yourself, but your underwear too
  8. Just about the greatest martial arts actor of all times
  9. Look, everyone come see.... the McDojo has finally hit national TV. What's next? Martial art's cereal? SOME.... ANYONE.... PLEASE STOP THIS!
  10. My opinion, consult your physician. Ask his advice. It doesn't mean you have to take it, but atleast listen. Some say this is a myth, others say it's true. I personally didn't start lifting heavy until I was 18. I didn't touch any protein shakes, Creatine... none of that stuff until I had started to lift heavy. If you have a clean diet, lifting intensely, you'll grow.
  11. I wish it would have been part of my studies in school. Maybe I wouldn't have sleep so much in school
  12. Agreed! Stay away from online stuff. Even videos aren't good.
  13. Yes, Yes! CONGRATS!
  14. Really? wow... I might have to look into that. I haven't liked a segal movie since Out for Justice. I was just out at best buy last night. Picked up Fist of Legand. I'm a big Jet Li fan, and didn't have this one.
  15. I got a kick outta this. Didn't ever think someone would ask about it. But.... since you asked, I will tell. My Uncle has been studying Martial arts for a long time. Hapkido, Aikido... and some others for a while. When I was about 10, I asked him to show me some cool moves. He got up, walked towards me and said, I'll show you "Barking Spider". He lifted his left as if to kick me, and farted. "You now know Barking Spider" He laughed and walked away.
  16. Personally, I don't do decline situps. I do 4 sets of 20 reps of crunches 4 sets of 15 reps of bent-leg hip raisers 4 sets of 15 reps of leg lifts. It's brings my abs out like crazy, but I still have bodyfat that's hindering see all of them. BUT THEY'RE THERE!
  17. Talked again today with Sensei. I found that they're not a part of an organization. Said it was due to the fact that his Grandmaster didn't like the dues and nonsense that they wanted out of you, plus it keeps the politics out of the dojo. It's there rules.
  18. AGAIN.... HAPPY FRIDAY!
  19. Get into many bar fights? Cannot say that I have heard of this, but Kung-Fu is not my strong point. I have a friend I work with who takes Wing Chun. I'll fire this at him.
  20. Mines short. Shotokan Karate (orange belt) left after 5 months (Current) TKD "Senior white" -McDojang Currently looking for a good Shorei-Ryu school.
  21. If this new student has 8 hours of formal training under a qualified and certified karate instructor daily (not self-training at home) for 1 year which totals 2,920 formal training hours, and through sequentially progressive kyu grading tests (from white to brown belt rank) ending with the shodan (BB) test, he was observed to possess the skill, discipline, mentality and maturity that a candidate should have at each belt ladder level, why question his qualifications as a competent blackbelt? He deserves to be one, given those aforementioned conditions having been met. I would salute him and welcome him to our blackbelt ranks. Training in karate are best measured in actual formal training hours under a competent and certified karate instructor and not how many years he has been training, if in those many years he trained for less total number of hours than he trained in just one year. Realistically, however, it is extremely rare if not impossible to encounter one karate student on earth with such fantastic physical stamina to train straight for 8 hours everyday for a whole year with non-retrogressive but rather progressive and sustained learning efficiency/improvement curve. It is truly incredible or should I say, unbelievably incredible (for emphasis) It's not possible. Atleast not for someone above the age of 16 and has real responsibilities. Now, if the person didn't have a car, didn't have a payment to pay, and was home schooled, I could see studying maybe 6 hours a day. I do not see an adult doing this. What about food, bathroom, showers, REST!!!!!? NOT POSSIBLE!
  22. I love that emoticon!
