Christians & the rank of Master
orion82698 replied to IcemanSK's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Seldom do I discuss religous threads in forums, or even in person. Religion is viewed (in my eyes) the same as politics. I don't discuss my political beliefs, nor do I discuss my religous beliefs. It's not a matter of me denying christ, more so that I don't need to hear the backlash and other people opinion on my religion. I have been going to church for as long as I can remember. I probably pray 3-5 times a day. I'm not saying I'm the perfect christian, but I believe, and have faith in God, and that's all that matters. Now, when it comes to MA, when I bow, my head is cleared. I seperate myself from my life. I'm almost in another world. I don't think about anything, but training. However, when I call my Sensei, or Master... I look at him/her as a high ranked offical in a art, nothing more. It's important to keep it as that. -
Well, everyones body is different. You might have the genetics to eat like crap once or twice a week, still get good workouts in, and have a great six pack. Someone like myself on the other hand, if I have one cookie... I MEAN JUST ONE, my body goes "ep.... I don't think so. Back to the drawing board" It's been 9 days for me so far, and I swear I'm shrinking in bodyfat. Even people I work with say I'm getting small. I cannot wait to hit my goal, and start bulking. That's when I get to bring up my caloric intake per day up another 800.

kind of. The abs and calves are endurance muscles. They can be worked for higher reps with no problem. I have heard that too, and you're right. I have tried both, and the higher reps work for me. However, most would agree that just going between 10-15 reps is all you need, before you overtrain. Personally, I go to 20. I know this sounds funny, but by the time I hit 20, I can feel all my abs being worked. When I'm at 10, it only feels like I have hit the middle section. Weird

Abdominal and core body strength lengths
orion82698 replied to SaiFightsMS's topic in Health and Fitness
No. I eat one cup of Dannon "Light and fit" a day for my afternoon snack. It's the only yogurt I like. I would like to have thought it was the only reason for my fat/weight lose, but it's not -
I saw this on National Geographic last night. They had one of George "Dillbert" (as I call him) guys try and knock out a scientist with this "no touch KO" well... it didn't happen. Dillbert said it was because he didn't believe in it !!!! Let me get this straight. You mean to tell me, that this "Peter Pan" theory is only good if someone believes in it? OOO...OOO let me be the first one to try it on the street. Clap your hands boys and girls if you believe!

There is a difference between pain, and burn. The burn is a build up of latic acid. Your arms (shoulders and triceps) should feel tired afterwards. Your chest (upper and inner) should feel some burn too. Once you're done with your pushups, stretch. The muscle are now hot, and need to be stretched. What I do to stretch my chest, is stand under a door way, place both arms on the outside of the door frame, and act like I'm going to fall, but my arms stop me, thus stretching my chest. Now, if you have pain, you need to look a few things. -where is it coming from? -does it happen while you're performing the exercise? -how long does the pain last for? Have someone watch you do the pushups. There are many different ways to do a pushup. The normal, is have your hands spread shoulder width apart. Go down for one second, come up for one second. Keep your back and legs straight. Make sure you're breathing. In when you go down, out when you come up. If it becomes painful, stop. You have to work your way up to many reps. If you think you can't, you won't. Remember, your mind shuts down before your muscle do. Tell yourself you can do 2 more, then 2 more after that. Once you hit muscle failure, hold yourself up at the top, but not all the way (about 90%) You'll find your arms start to shake. Hold this as long as you can.

Push yourself. Get away from your comfort zone. I have meet people in their 40's and 50's that can do over 300 push ups at one time. Push up if done correct will also benifit not only your chest, but your triceps and shoulders as well. If you want nice biceps "Guns" your triceps have to be on point too.

Sadly, I'm affraid you're right. You cannot trust anything your read on the Net. I guess I was just hoping to find a respectable webpage or book that will point me to where they have trained. I guess I just need to participate in every class that I'm interested in, and do with my gut feeling.

Thanks! It's good to know that I'm not the only one out there that thinks this is important

Yup. That would work. Check this out too http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exercises.htm Just click on the body part you want to work, and BAM! You have a detailed picture it. My advice, purchase a $50 bench. It will come in handy for doing workouts! Push ups are great too. Try to do them as many as you can, until failure. I do about 40-50 a day, except the day after I work my chest (too sore) Remember when working out, do not sacrifice weight for technique. If it hurts, or you have to swing to get the weight up, lower the weight. Your body will thank you.

I would have to call and ask every single school I'm looking into. It's just a preference of mine to know. The school I'm looking into now, I asked him and found out that way, but I look into about 3-4 schools a day. I just didn't know if they're a part of an organization or not, if they would be listed on some chart.... being if they're a high ranking belt. Not to mention, anyone could say the were trained by anyone.

It depends on your body, but most people need a day of rest after hitting targeted muscles. If you work them hard, and train with intensity, you will need a days rest (especially chest and legs) I run and do bag work on my days off from lifting. Drinking protein shakes is not going to stop your abs from coming out. Your abs are just like every other muscle group, they need protein to grow, plus rest. It's going to take longer than a week to see your abs. I have been working mine for 4 months religously, and I'm seeing mine now, but I still have bodyfat to burn off first. Remember, the average person will not see his/her abs unless they're under 13% bodyfat. Your abs will require a clean diet, and a 3 day workout plan. I work mine 4 days a week. Your abs are just like every other muscle group, so work them like every other muscle group. 3 different excercises, 3 sets, 10-12 reps. I do crunches, leg raises, and bent-leg hip raises. I take 45 seconds of rest in between each set. Make sure your body get rest as well. You should be trying to get 7+ hours of sleep at night. If you would like to know your bodyfat, click on the link below. You will need to purchase a fat caliper, but they're only $5. http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/drobson98.htm Good luck, and keep us posted!

WTF TKD Testing Fees
orion82698 replied to theadric's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Well, I apologize for the insulting reply earlier. However, $500 is too much. That's half my mortgage payment -
If you don't mind me asking, what's the purpose of the trip? Business, or pleasure?
-
I cannot help you, but I just wanted to say "LUCKY" I want to go to Japan!
-
Tired that. All it brings up is his name/dojo. Nothing related to the lineage of the art or his Sensei.

Considering switching styles

Hmmm... in a MMA fight? wow... that's pretty daring. I'll go looking. Thanks dude! -
I'm looking to see if there is a way to find out who an instructor trained under (besides asking him)

Dating someone that goes to the same school as u?
orion82698 replied to RDsynMBZ's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I would say No. If you're married, and want to bring her into your training, then yes. But not if she is already a part of that dojo. It's like dating someone at work [Thumbs down]
