I read others from the library and from ones left on the train too. What ever peaks my interest at that time.

I found this on the net somewhere a while back "The Way of the warrior does not include other Ways, such as Confucianism, Buddhism, certain traditions, artistic accomplishments and/or dancing. But even though these are not part of the Way, if you know the Way broadly you will see it in everything. Men must polish their particular Way." -- Miyamoto Musashi - 1584? - 1645 My point is (and this is my thought) there are many ways and as many have said thus far you choose your own path. As for effectiveness, that too depends on you. The greatest fighter can practice kata or he/she can practice in other ways but he/she is not great because of what he practices but rather his/her dedication.

I grew up calling it soda. I moved from the city to the suburbs and they called it pop. I like "soft drink" now

ever doubted ur abilities
patusai replied to masterintraining's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
As you get older and your bones, joints and other parts of your body have their pain related problems you think to your self "If someone trys something with my limited mobility I may not be able..." Then there is the doubt that you are older and that the younger person has an advantage with the lack of age. Don't worry about questioning what matters is when your MA training goes into autopilot you have trained enough to survive. Of course, putting yourself into places and situations that may increase your chances of getting into a fight is also best to avoid. That's also where walking away starts to be a real good idea...of course sometimes younger people find that harder to do, I know that it was that way for me. I suppose that my point is, train for as many situations as you can. Of course you can't completely do it. There is always the chance of something developing that you have no control over. All you can do is all you can do. Good luck to us all -

I agree -
Bushido_man96 makes an excellent suggestion. You may have some sort of infection that is causing the equilibrium problem and the doc can find it and correct the problem.

Professional related mags and then Popular Science, Popular Mechanics and from time to time various different food related mags (for recipies and such) especially when I get in to the mental mindset to eat better

As I see from the posts some styles encourage/allow bouncing in forms. In sparing in competition I suppose that it would depend on the indvidual. If there are time limits for each round then I don't think that the loss of energy would be that great a factor. In other sparing applications where the length of the fight (if you will) cannot be determined (that is it could go on for quite some time) loss of energy may be a factor. I suppose what I am saying is that to bounce or not to bounce should be as needed and as dictated by the situation that you are in.

Perhaps this is why your ying/yang avatar is spinning out of control You know... you're right!

I actually bought the VHS of the kata. I enjoyed it a lot. Some stuff similar to what I have learned with small differences and some off

another question about belt lol
patusai replied to nystangkid's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Very old school. Nice I like it. When my dad first started training, back in the late '70s and early '80s, that was his belt system as well. That is when I started (early 70's. yes, it meant that you wore a belt for some time. Althought that could get boring you did get your wear out of a belt. The hardest time was going from White to Green. It took a long time and everyone wanted some color to show progression. We did not use stripes either. Again, when you paid for a belt you got to wear it a while and got your money's worth -
I have learned a version of Bassai/Passai ane we referred to the kata as Patusai

I like Wierd Al and his father Frank Yankovic and his Polka stuff

My favorite one (although at the time I was training I did not think it was that great) is White Green Brown Black -
I tried watching public television and seeing the different painters show how it's done. Landscape paintings and such because I know I could not paint a person or an animal but I could conjure up a landscape in my mind. I tried shading rocks to give them depth and all of the other techniques but it my end result did not look as it was intended and was not very good. I kept trying and my results were still failing. I guess I do not have whatever it is inside of me that makes an artist. I'd love to be able to do it but I can't do it well enough to even satisfy me

Kata helps to develop balance and technique. There is nothing that can be done, be it kata, kumite or any other training that can address every possible technique thrown at you. As for the importance of kata, it would depend on how important one would think basics are...AND please understand...Kata is not the only way to develop basics That's my way of looking at it.

I think that I would like it but the price tag is preventing me from even thinking about getting one.

Diet Rite but I really really like RC. Store brands such as Sams and Jewel brand are fine and really good too.

I actually remember the commercial back in the day when Kai Karate first came out. A trip down memory lane. As funny today after seeing it as it was back then. Thank you for that.

Sohan, golly gee...thanks for the information. Too bad I just had two cans shortly before I read you post. I guess that it's back to coffee for me! Well, maybe not

I seem to think that some of this stuff was regional. I remember that the first time I drank it was in Colorado. Then it came to the midwest
