  1. I know that sifu and sensei are the same thing, but what I was trying to say was a chinese art and a japanese art. Also if you take another style after mastering the first in your opinion can it be from a different teacher or does it have to be the same teacher?
  2. Under what rules would they be fighting? well kickboxing rules, like in a sport format I guess. That would make things fair.
  3. Fist of legend was one of the greatest movies I've seen.I guess your right with the stereotype thing.Because the Japanese fighters in that movie were extremly japanese looking with their clothes.
  4. what are you talking about when you said "why not?"
  5. well sometimes in class we do partner drills when the other person attacks and you counter with a predetermined attack, but we don't actually have names for these things. Also we do the applications of the forms, and those are all self defense movements.
  6. lol,I think I can also join in on that post ninja nurse.
  7. they did show the italian mafia.I guess that the japanese mafia isn't as crazy as the others. As for the Irish and Jewish mafias,I didn't even know that they existed untill this very moment.
  8. all these people(kncluding myself)have been saying that it's a bad idea to do finger tip strikes, especially to hard objects, but what about the people that can break boards with fingertip strikes? How do you explain that?
  9. my style doesn't have any fancy kicks ,but I love doing them. You can also go to this website called tricktutorials.net or .com (not sure). Also check out the works of the zero gravity stunts team.
  10. well I pay $78 a month for 4 one hour classes a week then I'm about to start kobudo for $15 a month for a one hour class per week. These prices are extremely cheap compared to were I used to go to.At the place I used to go to they would charge $120 a month for two 30 minute classes a week. Then they wanted me to sign a 3 yr. contract for $200 a month , but I could go as much as I wanted.I just left because it was expensive and a McDojo. At the place I go to now the prices are some of the cheapest in town. The cheapest I've seen is $50.
  11. well the general public is more familiar with karate,so if they would have somebody in an indonesian martial arts outfit they wouldn't even realize he was part of the team. Also I heard that karate was really big back in the days so I guess it was easier to find them. One more thing,I guess that bruce wanted to prove to the world the strnght of the chinese and chinese martial arts to the world. As for Sonny Chiba, what style or styles of karate has he done?
  12. I don't like school either, but I wouldn't say that it is useless. Both are beneficial ,but in different ways.People look up to people with education more than with people of little or no education. You also have a higher chance of getting a better job and making more money.
  13. ohh ok,that doesn't sound good.Well what karate styles and other styles are there in your area?
  14. what do you mean by USSD's clinics?
  15. hmmm,so how would a kyokushin karateka be when fighting a Thau fighter?
  16. wow, have you ever tried it?Sounds tasty maybe they have it in Japanese restaurants.
  17. what do you mean, can you put it in simple terms for a teenager please?
  18. hmm I wished more of my friends were into martial arts.Outside the school some like it , a lot don't.Then there are some that want to do it,but never actually do because they don't have confidence. There are a very small amount that actually practice them that aren't from my dojo.
  19. I was surprised that they didn't mention either of the two also, but I'm glad they didn't because that would just make my people look like we are all criminals. As for the Indian mafia(as in Indian from India not Native Americans) I've never heard anything about them, but those were some crazy guys.I guess the Indian mafia is just a India thing.
  20. I think Angela is right.Because if you focus on what technique to use in a certain situation you will get hit, submitted, cut, etc before you even realize what to do for the situation.
  21. apology accepted.Slang is a strange thing here too. It's like you just defined it and as the way I used it.So yeah slang can get confusing, especially with different states and ethnic groups.
  22. Goju-Ryu as it is practiced by members of the Sho-Rei-Shobu-Kan Budo Organization does include a Gekisai Dai San as part of its kata curriculum. It is taught to students at Rokyu level. It just goes to show that different schools/organizations that even though they may practice the same style that there are different curriculums. oh ok,because at my dojo or organization we just have the original 12,and we also have hakutsuru, but I don't know when somebody learns that kata.
  23. yeah I was similar to you especially in the part that you couldn't care less about martial arts.I used to be lazy so my mom was why don't you try out martial arts ,and I was like whatever. Then back in the day I always wanted to try out boxing. Then a friend who trained in boxing before and now does Shaolin said why don't you try out kung-fu.So I investigated it after he told me all about and tried out a horrible school, but then switched to great school and here I am.Loving it.
  24. I think any traditional style has this. It's in the forms.
  25. Goju Ryu doesn't have Gekisai dai san,how come if Miyagi Sensei developed it?
