  1. Aikido is unique in itslef, but I get what you are implying.
  2. yep, hakama.those are so freaking cool, but I haven't seen my instructor wear one.The only people at my dojo that wear hakama's are the aikido black belts(lucky dudes ).
  3. lol,I don't know about that, but she lived in France and Europe for a really long time. Also shes not the only french/vietnamese person I've met.In that school alone there were to class mates born in france, but vietnamese.
  4. So Hapkido also teaches you to go with your opponents force?
  5. exactly theres no movie like that.Well I did hear of some Korean movie called "old boy" that said it was supposedly similar to Kill Bill.
  6. how does the Goju-Kai help the student with their body type?
  7. so yamagachi sensei came up with sanchin part 2?
  8. training did teach me how to count
  9. i wouldn't say it's boring ,but I guess the action outdoes the acting.
  10. well traditional karate does have a lot of grappling but it's concepts are different than those in aikido,judo,ju-jutsu.Becuase the grappling in aikido is done using your opponents energy against them, judo and ju-jutsu are more of the ground work stuff.
  11. the only thing I still don't get from that clip is how to perform the "brazilian kick"
  12. Unless you make a living hitting people and killing people or breaking objects for gainful demonstrations with your bare hands, this hard method of hand conditioning is ill-advised. It can de-sensitize your hands and fingers to preclude very fine motor activities that you may need in your employment. It could also lead to hand and finger deformation as well as early onset of arthritic and other bone and skin disorders. If you are training in karate for sport or street defense, you don't need such extreme forms of hand conditioning that the old Samurai warriors and ninjas of feudal Japan needed to do to excel in their killing art. Gene so what about the people that have made their hands able to break boards with punches, palm strikes, fingertip strikes, knife hand strikes.and so forth.
  13. well the way I look at it people don't really think youre good because of your uniform, but for what you have around your waist. If people see a belt below black they will asume that you aren't as good as the blackbelts. When really theres practitioners that are good when they are below black belt.
  14. shotokan has 26 katas? How many katas do you learn per belt?
  15. For example when I was in High School my French teacher was Vietnamese.Well a couple of the parents had a problem with her becuase she didn't look like your average French woman, but she was actually a good teacher. She was dedicated to her job and did it well for the most part.
  16. isn't there a study out there that shows that martial arts helps kids with add and kids with agression problems. If there is it might go into the "martial arts changed my life" thing.
  17. so it's more painfull on your opponent huh?
  18. Can you name a style that emphasises going out of your way to fight force with force? I thought aikido wasn't about usining force against force?
  19. thanks for the reply. It was very specific and helpfull.as for the lineage or style of kobudo,I guess I have to ask my instructor tomorrow.Anyways you say a lot of the weapons are chinese weaponry,so will the way that you wield any of the weapons be the same or similar as someone in a Kung-Fu class? Also from what style or styles of kung-fu did kobudo get their techniques?
  20. what is IOW?Also what is soo?Anyways I know that Kuk Sool Won has hand strikes also. It's not like TKD and I think Hapkido that only kick in striking modes. Also when you spar are kicks and punches to the head allowed?and kicks to the lower body?
  21. thank U! since I checked out this link now I know his styles besides kyokushin. He also did : 2nd-Dan Blackbelt in Jûdô 4th-Dan Blackbelt in Ninjutsu 1st-Dan Blackbelt in Kendô 1st-Dan Blackbelt in Shôrinji Kenpô
  22. Sanchin ni ?? That's a first yeah that was the first time I've heard of it too.Maybe his sensei or organization made it.Also I've heard of sanchin being practiced with closed hands and open hands,so maybe he's reffering to the open handed version.
  23. that's what i wanted to know all this time, thank you.
  24. lol,you always know what to say warlock.anyways it was mentioned that you could blind someone with fingertip strikes. That's if you do them to the eye.You could also use those strikes to the neck and solar plexus.
