I didn't think it was flashy either when I started practicing either, and the other advanced people didn't look flashy either.Hey can you tell me more about yamashita kobudo?
-
they are very fast because they know what they are doing, youre slower because your a bagginer that's thinking on what to do next.so once you really don't think for long you will be as fast if not faster. For example yesterday I sparred a little middle or high school girl,me being bigger, stronger, and older thought that I could handle it.When we actually started sparring her size allowed her to be faster than me and score points like crazy(I don't like point fighting).also she has had more experience so she knows her way around opponents.so just spar more and work on the reflex/timing drills.

well katas can be different from organization to organization and from school to school
-
karate does have some grappling in it,but very minimal. Also it's just to help you get out of a situation, not to go and outgrapple your opponent.
-
well that's why youre a member of this forum. You can start a thread on instructional videos to see which are good and which are not.

I've checked stores already,so I guess not.

Kuk Sool Won sparring?
Goju_boi replied to Goju_boi's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Hmm,so I guess it's the judges fault for the lack of punches in wtf. -
Well besides hands if you go and practice iron body for a while your whole body will harden.which means you can take a lot of hits,or if you practiced it so much you might be even able to survive a knife attack.

"I think SenseiMike was referring to his use of grappling which is extracted directly from the Kata" Well were else is it going to come from?Unless he puts aspects of another art in it.
-
I do think about it,but we don't really practice it at our dojo.By the way being that both of us are practicing okinwan/japanese arts it's called ki.Anyways being that it's not really practiced where I go ,I believe in exercising.
-
of course we don't use that in wars no more, but aren't martial arts taught to the soldiers? Therefore in a way it is still being used.
-
I haven't done it a while, so I guess I have to get my instructors to teach me more.
-
Well at the time you can always get instructional videos on it.Maybe you can even mix up what you learned from the videos into the tkd or kickboxing

Self Defense Techniques anyone?
Goju_boi replied to younwhagrl's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I guess that sparring is a good tool for helping you get some of your self defense tools into use,but then again you can't use everything in your arsenal. -
Oh I just asked him because it says on his info that he practices it.Anyways,so Yamashita Kobudo is a flashy weapons style?

Kuk Sool Won sparring?
Goju_boi replied to Goju_boi's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
"Soo is Korean for "techniques" (roughly). " so you mean soo is the grappling aspect of it? Also is it a fan of high kicks, spinning kicks,and/or jump kicks when you spar? -
Kuk Sool Won sparring?

oh sorry, I knew about tkd punching.it's just that I hear that wtf doesn't and itf does(or something like that). Then about hapkido,I had heard about it being a kick oriented style while in striking mode,so I just guessed that it wasn't big on punches either.
