i remember the first time i had that feeling( sigh ) it was during a smoker ( free style kickboxing match ) and i got clocked right in the head with a left hook. i shook it off and then my body just kind of took over and i ended up beating the guy. in my opinion it is the result of constant practise and dedication to your martial art of choice.

hmmm a hard kick to the shin i advocated this in an earlyer post. i decided to test the efectiveness of a kick to the shin on one of my non MA friends (with consent) i used a front thrust kick and my friend said it hurt bad but not bad enough to cause him to stop fighting ever after repeated kicks he said that the pain was bad but not a fight ender.

yea i actually think fight clubs are a good idea if done within a close circle of friends.

as a buddhist i meditate every day and on holidays that is what i devote my self to and as to the post saying meditation wont help you for at lest a year i most highly disagree even the first time you meditate you are helping your self and clearing your mind. as to the way to properly meditate in the zen buddhist way you semply try to clear your mind of all thoughts by consentrating on your breathing with the intent of forceing out all negitive ideas or actions. how ever there are other forms of buddhist meditation such as repeating a sutra or saying the name of the buddhas. why everyone hates Taekwondo
Muaythaiboxer replied to white belt's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
i dont have a problem with paying dues so the school can stay opean but i have a huge problem when a school starts to take advantage of its students to make more money by constantly raiseing the prices and forceing them to buy extra equiptment if they want to compete my friend had to quit a TKD organisation because they kept raiseing the price and kept tacking on more expenses im not saying all schools are like that but evey time i see a big organisation i see a lot more money and alot less skill in the schools (just my experience) -
thx for the input i think i need to make my idea more understood first i am not advocating the use haymakers/wheel kicks because as i had previosly put a strike that does more damage than another is superior to a strike that does less damage. if a strike is blocked then it does little or no damage there for the heymaker that is blocked is not as effective as the jab that gets threw the gaurd to make contact. what i was trying to advocate was the use of the most powerful weapon when possible i see many martial artists use a jab cross combo but by the time the jab has made contact the opponent has already covered up because they expect the cross if the agressor had just thrown a straight cross then they would have hit with a more powerful technique instead of just strikeing with the jab. i know the jab is a feeler technique used to set up the cross or hook or what ever but now i see many of the people i work out with as soon as they see a jab they expect a cross hook or round house. and all the time i was wondering why not just throw the primary technique first when you have the opeaning

/quote sauzin/ Yes and no. Economy of motion is more involved as has been previously mentioned. But what I think Muaythaiboxer's point brings to the table can be rather simply put. Economy of motion does always mean less motion. It means the most efficient motion. If a motion is reduced past the point of efficiency or effectiveness then it no longer makes the most of economy of motion. thats what i had in mind!!! i just couldent write it as eliquently as i might have hoped/ thx

you know after i looked over it. it reminds me of one of those things that looks good on paper and wont work in real life.

thanks for the input as i said it has some flaws but hey i was kind of off the top of my head. but who knows mabe something better will come of it. but if you have the choice of hitting with a jab or a cross which would you take?

LOL. i once saw a fight on my constrution crew where a thai boxer thai kicked a finish carpenter in the gut and the guy progectile vomited all over the new counter top.

im not really a fan of the side kick because of the time and teligraph it takes to exicute even and untrained fighter is hop back or parry it. (although i have used it before) has anyone thought about kicking the shin? i mean as a thaiboxer this comes natural to me but if an untrained person where to slam there shin into another persons shin what would be the result? both partys hoping around on one foot rubbing there shin?

most people know of the theory of economy of motion (basicly it says to always strike with the nearest weapon to the nearest target) i personaly have always had a little bit of a problem with this theory because it gives so little room to generate power (which is why you see so few fighters fight KO people with the front hand/hand in front) i recently have been thinking long and hard about this and have come up with the theory of economy of force basicly my theory states that 1. a strikeing technique must cause damage or pain to be viable for self defence 2. a strikeing technique that does more damage or causes more pain is superior to a technique that causes less damage or pain 3. in order to cause damage a strikeing technique must have power 4. the rear leg/hand can generate more power than the front leg/hand 5. this makes the rear leg/hand more viable for self defence that the front leg/hand problem: the rear leg/hand have furthere to travel than the front leg/hand and are inherently slower solution: use my theory Theory: strike with the most powerful weapon if possible, if not possible strike with the next most powerful weapon if possible, then progress down to your weakest weapon in order you would perfer to use them. i know it has some flaws but i was wondering what some more experienced MA's thought of it. all thoughts welcome AMITABHA

Shaolin Temple
Muaythaiboxer replied to scottnshelly's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
dont go to shaolin you will be very disapointed, the "monks" are not even monks but local MA teachers that want to make a buck off the tourists. there are still shaolin monks around but why would they be in china? a place where they are looked down apon for there religion and not treated very well. most of the fighting monks are now in western countrys. exp (shi yan ming) if you want to learn shaolin kung fu go to the new york shaolin temple. if you are obsessed with going to asia to train with fighting monks i recomend going to the green cloud monestery in western tibet it is one of the few temples not destoryed by the chinese and the monks there still practice tibeten martial arts (lions roar, lama pai, white craine,) -
