why everyone hates Taekwondo
Muaythaiboxer replied to white belt's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
it seems that we are in unison when it comes to the large TKD chains. and i have to say it is very nice to hear from some non mcdojo TKD people. and im confused if there are ATA people in the MMA and they are doing well why would they be asked to stop does the ATA have a problem with there members actually being able to fight and defend them selvs? or they just not want the image of being a legit organisation and would rather be thought of as a mcdojo? i still have quite i few friends in the ATA i personally i dont know why they still go can someone please give me some answers as to why the large chain TKD schools are so appealing? -
Black Belt and Ages
Muaythaiboxer replied to frightmaster's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
i actually would say junior black a 16 and full BB at 18 just my two cents. and in my opinion there is no way a 9 year old could be as proficient as a teen or adult if they had trained for the same time. and i dont see what the big deal is in makeing them wait if they quit they where never in it for the art any way and only in it for the title. -

tkdbill what conditioning does your class do because what i consider conditioning is a little bit more hard core than most peoples work out rutine if your students do full contact and regularly do runing/polymetrics/weightlifting then i owe you and your art an apoligy but where i live there is only one TKD school that does these things and the other ten or so are mcdojos. -

Why is kumite more important in western karate than kata?
Muaythaiboxer replied to Monkeymagic's topic in Karate
give me a person who only does kata and i will give you a person who cant defende themselves. if kata where effective in real life all the sport martial artists would spend hours doing kata. i personally believe kata has its place but it should be far behind sparring bag work and a host of other training methods. -
me to thats a good thing to do.

Palm Heel Strike Overrated?
Muaythaiboxer replied to UseoForce's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
IMHO the palm strike is the best hand technique for SD but for ring fights its best to stick with the good old punch. -
yea the guy i tested the shin kicking on is a great guy. and i agree it does give you an opertunaty to follow up. quot/MFGQ/ But if you r fighting against someone who is trying to really hurt you, you should do it, it is very effective in self defense and you could run afterwards and he wont be able to follow whail i agree i have to say that a kick to the thigh will do the same thing and the thigh is an easier target to hit than the knee.

High kicks, high risk
Muaythaiboxer replied to Densetsu Bushi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i would have to say that high kicks are a risky move but if you can pull them off and are willing to go to the ground if you mess up go for it. -
Shaolin Temple

well lets see, he now likes to drink alot (against buddhism) he got marryed ( monks cant do that) he started makeing alot of money and lives in a nice house (monks cant do that) and he now has a kid (monks cant do that!) pretty much he still claims to be a monk but there is no way a monk could do these things and not be expelled from the order. although i am thankful that he has helped spread buddhism and compassion in the united states i am a little put off that he has chosen to ignore his monastic vows, it makes me wonder if he was ever a real shaolin monk in general... -

SD= self defence actually i have practiced TKD for 9 years and in every school i have ever been in none have practiced strikes to the head in sparing and none have done low kicks or grappling in sparing. MasterH you seem to have a great deal of information concerning your art and im happy to hear that you use hands to the head and sweeps but people who are truely proficient at TKD seem to be in the minoraty and in my experience most TKD schools in the mid west are now mcdojos. last time i checked the ATA was the bigest TKD chain in the world and i have yet to meet a BB from the ATA who i would give half a chance in a MMA match the same with WTF and ITF schools. -
after looking threw the website i came to the conclusion that the schools are a joke 8 mounths to make the moves a reaction shure... 1 1/2 years to get a BB... will make it so you can fight 3 people at once... this schools sounds like a mcdojo to me i would stear clear of it.

i know it makes me very disapointed how could he just forsake his religious studys although i still hope he is dedicated to spreading buddhism to america. -

i know i will get alot of crap for this but i believe personaly that TKD as an art is flawed for SD and full contact fighting sempley because of the way the art is practiced there are usually no low kicks tought and if they are they are not used in sparing, hand strikes to the head are usually neglected and rarely used in actual competition, grapling does not exist in TKD (some schools have incorperated it) but it is not practiced on a high level. and most schools dont incorperate any real conditoning. dont get me wrong i enjoy TKD but if someone is looking to become a great full contact fighter or get practicle SD TKD is usually not the way to go. -
Have I failed as a martial artist?
Muaythaiboxer replied to parkerlineage's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
one time at a tournament teakwondo (olyimpic style) tournament a guy hit me with a punch to the face i shrugged it off and kept going then he hit me again and i droped him with a thai kick to the side of the thigh persoally i think that you acted in the best possible manner. -
sence i do mostly full contact and grappling i really dont get the chance to spar ladies but as as much as i practice and as hard as i work i dont really think loseing to a lady is that big of a deal there are some pretty tough chicks out there if she beat you thats your problem you did something wrong and you should be disapoited in your self every time you lose regaurdless of who you lose to.

in my opinion a BB before the age of 16 is bad idea. every time i see a 6 year old running around with a BB it just makes my BB that much less respected i personally think delaying the promotion is a good idea. -
wrestling
Muaythaiboxer replied to fujita san's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
in my opinion there is not a better art to start with than good old wrestling. even a wrestler with limited strikeing skills can usually beat a good striker with poor ground skills but we have all seen that in MMA.
