  1. not friendly but by no means rude they dont talk much, i have to say the only time i hurd a monks voice is when i asked a question or they where chanting sutras. but when they do talk they are friendly we even had a bigot and his group come to our temple and give a hate speech threw a loud speaker and all the monks did was smile and go inside (i had a very hard time not hitting the guy)
  2. i agree i will stick with my own methods and others can have theres. as to your previous post menjo that is what i enjoy most about meditation and i find the longer you meditate the longer that feeling is. AMITABHA
  3. if a monk breaks celibacy he is expelled from the order of monks, but still attende the temple. i actually spent a couple weeks last year in as an assistant to the monks and let me tell you these guys are really really disaplened but these are theravada monks not shaolin monks but i still know that drinking is very very against buddhism.
  4. i have hurd of this but never had the chance to do much research on the subject.
  5. i compeated at an ATA tournament i went to the registration table and asked to compeate and told them i was not ATA affiliated they got the head of the tournament and he said it was ok (a master saberzade or something i for get his name but that is close) so i got to compete but i the next tournament i went to they would not let me i just dont understand why they would bar anyone from there tournaments it just doent make sence to me glad you think im not a bad guy MasterH it seems to me we have a lot in commen with our philosiphys in the MA and i have a question what is the diffrence between hwa rang do and tea kwon do besides one is way older?
  6. i really with they had MMA bacj then so we would not have to speculate if bruce could have taken lewis or noris or who ever. in my opinion howard jackson was better than lewis and noris.
  7. yes i have been to more than one ITF tournament and even a few WTF and one ATA althougs now the local ATA people watch out for me because they dont like non ATA people representing other styles and schools.
  8. yea there used to be what my teacher called fight nights where we would all get together and spar
  9. whitewarlock you are correct in assuming that i was talking about compitition in a real self defence situation i would still use the boxing stance but i was wondering what you would advocate.
  10. get inside there gaurd if its full contact as you said you have a short reach and bash away with hooks and uppercuts. if its a sport style sparring i would sugest doing a little reading i recomend ( secrits of championship karate, tao of jeet kune do, the art of war, and a book of five rings) books wont make you a great fighter but they can help and give you a few neat tricks. AMITABHA
  11. i actually like to lead with one side slightly infront (like a boxer) but then as soon as i feel like my opponent is used to that i switch to southpaw stance.
  12. i really liked your previous post karate25 i myself dont care if i ever become a fith degee BB or what ever i just want to get better at fighting. i do have to thank the big chains for providing me with tournaments and i have never been turned away at a tournament because of not being a member (except by the ATA) i was wondering why general choy let things get out of hand so bad with the ITF from what i have read he seemed like a man who really cared about his art .
  13. i agree although i just had the experience of sparring a wing chun fighter and after that i would have to say if the wing chun school did full contact and did condishioning i would say a tie between muay thai and wing chun i dont think tang soo do would compairs to the other two styles.
  14. kajukenbo is a really interesting art it combines karate,judo/jiujitsu/kenpo/and chinese and western boxing it was kind of the first strikeing art to really incorperate grappling.
  15. i agree if you are just going to stick with kung fu you dont have much of a chance sorry. just one question does your school do full contact if not and you want to compeate in MMA get out and find another school.
  16. lol one time at a opean tournament i thai kicked a guy in the ribs and he started to cry just proves how much good a mcdojo will do you
  17. true but a monk is a monk to me if im not mistaken the fighting monks where suposed to keep celibate to. dont get me wrong i think shi yan ming is a very good martial artist and a very good person. i also think i hurd he is the sparing champ of china or something like that i dont know if that is true but it would mean he could actually fight (provided it was full contact) and not just a form expert he knows like over 100 forms!
  18. its MMA it takes stuff from alot of other arts it usually pretty good. it however claims to be its own art that was invented in greece for the old old olyimpics.
  19. that makes me want to get in the ring with him and show him what Muay thai is really like but better in fake thai fights than real drug dens in my opinion.
  20. the feeling will come back after a long time but the bone stays just as hard.
  21. yes by the emporer not by but what makes the emporers word more important than the buddhas? it is still against buddhism its one of the five precepts. 1. i shall not harm liveing things 2. i shall not steal 3. i shall not misuse the sences (theres one) 4. i shall not use wrong speech 5. i shall not take druges that tend to cloud the mind. (theres another) i just dont think he should call himself a monk when he clearly is not.
  22. lol yea those angry thoughts are hard to get out of there.
