why everyone hates Taekwondo
Muaythaiboxer replied to white belt's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
i see you have a legit reson to treasure your belt and please dont consider something that you teasure just a pice of cloth if it was given to you by a man you respect it is no longer just a pice of cloth and might i go so far as to say that the cloth that makes up the belt is not as valueable to you as what the belt represents, the problem i have with belts is that so few people actually treasure the knowlage that the belt represents and more offtain place more value on there being able to say "im a BB i can kick your butt" which because of mcdojos is about as true as saying "ive got a chefs hat im a gormet chef" -
Capoeira good for self defense?
Muaythaiboxer replied to MFGQ's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
yes i did see the NHB fights with the capoeira guy the jump kick was very pretty but i have to say as good as he is at capoeira i dont think he could trade blows with some of the better fighters. as i said capoeira can be used effctively against a guy with no training buy a fighter with any training worth anything i dont think capoeira can compete. once again no offense intended to the capoeiraistas out there. actually the total wipe out occured much earlyer than that it was during the boxer rebellion in which both the north and south temples where destoryed and the off shoot of shaolin the wu-tang (no not the band) where also mostly destoryed by that time. it you want to go to a buddhist monastery to study MA there are many in thailand, korea and japan that still teach MA very seriously and in tibet there is the green cloud monastery where they still teach tibetan MA it is where the dali lama's body gaurds are trained and last i looked it has not yet been shut down by the chinese just very restricted. Capoeira good for self defense?
Muaythaiboxer replied to MFGQ's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i have taken both capoeira angola and the other more showy form and i do not consider it very effective. i know that it is done diffrently in a real fight but as of yet i have not yet met a capoeiraista i have not been able to out strike or out grapple once again i mean no offense to the style as it is very pretty to watch and im shure that an experienced capoeiraista could defend himself but there are other more efficient styles that serve the self defense better. a very good idea

good for you guys me on the other hand i have had to use my limited skills twice once during a school fight once during an evening jog. the first ended with me takeing him down and chokeing him. the other ended with a thai kick and me continuing my run. thankfuly i have never had to use skills in a really bad situation. -
cool i just hope no one gets hurt and they are forced to stop.

the reson that BJJ has not become a mcdojo is because it is nearly impossibe to fake skill in a grapling MA like Bjj in fact i have yet to see grapling mcdojo or a full contact mcdojo. -

Aikido In The Army
Muaythaiboxer replied to jedimc's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
acctually i think aikido takes far to long to become proficient in to make it applicable to the police or military at lest this was the vibe i got from it suring my short training experience. -
wrestling
Muaythaiboxer replied to fujita san's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
im so happy you cleared that for the non wrestlers Warlock some of the best fighters i know are wrestlers and on the mat they have there way with just about anyone except the BJJ fighters. one of my friends entered a judo tournament with no judo experience and he took second by pining all of his opponents. -

Muaythaiboxer replied to Adonis's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
my appoligies for my ignorence but what is the rubber gaurd? -
true but i dont think it should be totally taken out of your bag of tricks i mean if done right it can be a fight ender and thats reson enough to keep it IMHO.

im not at all suprised that Lee beat the crap out of norris. what do you people think of a bout between howard jackson and Lee. jackson was champ of sport karate, kickboxing, and in the top ten in boxing. -

i actually have to say that BJJ is still going strong as a practicle although there is a large chain of schools i still havent been to a BJJ school that i would consider a Mcdojo. the billbrown school looks pretty good better than most not as good as some. -
actually nuns practiced many froms chuan fa and a nun ivented wing chun if im not mistaken. there are still many monks who practice martial arts there are even whole monasterys in south east asia devoted to muay thai, krabi krabong, muay boran, and in korea there are a few temples that train monks in tae kyon, kwan bop, and korea MA and whitewarlock you are correct there really arnt really any more real shaolin monks.

Shaolin Temple
Muaythaiboxer replied to scottnshelly's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
that was the hardest part lol, i actually had quite a hard time keeping quite so i would ask monks questions about sutras and stuff like that just to talk a little bit, after a couple days of no talking though you get used to it. -

i dont understand your question if you are asking would i trade all my MA if i ment i could keep boxing? if so i would not give up my grappling and Muay Thai just for boxing.
