  1. Yep, that's pretty much the adea... Although if u break their leg u have legalities to overcome... Angus
  2. Therefore it calls for more intelligence when fighting right? Like use your own imagination and not stick to one way of standing or whatnot...? Angus
  3. I was just thinking while replying to a post. Since i've done a whole heap of martial arts and have various experience as a crosstrainer - i was thinking that i might eventually try and make my own self-defense system. Or perhaps i should read more into JKD. I want to eventually run a school and if i don't do JKD or make my own art then it's gonna b plain old kickboxing or karate. Maybe i could call it Gus-Do (hehe, get it? gusto - as in the word... hahaha) Angus
  4. Yeah, that was a nice thing to post man - Tobias must be a real admirable kinda bloke... It almost brings a tear to my eye I dunno exactly what you meant by 'karate can't be mixed with fighting' - because i take moves from karate and adapt them to MY fighting style. I'm not an excellent fighter, cos i don't train enough, but my style speaks for itself. If i could train 4 hours a day like the rest of you guys then i reckon i could create my own style... hmmm, that gives me an idea. I might open a new thread on this. Angus
  5. ts757... dude, maybe u aren't a good enough fighter... no offense. Size makes a difference if you're doing point sparring, obviously, cos u said u couldn't score a point. but if you're small and on the street against a guy like this you sould try and kick him in the groin and the knees. Don't try and hit him in the head. On a similar note, a lot of people, i have noticed, continually go and try to hit someone in the head. What they don't realise is that hits to the stomach and to the legs and groin are just as damaging. I hardly ever open with a kick to the head unless the guy's guard is down. I might try and punch thru his guard but never kick thru it. Roundhouses to the ribs are an excellent attack to start with. I don't really care if i get taken down by a grappler if he grabs my kick because i can handle myself on the ground too! Just felt like writing today, Angus
  6. Heh, these guys come in too close and end my kicking my arse, quite literally, they hit my in the butt! I'd have to put my shin on a 90degree angle to hit their's... I know what u mean though. I found that i can block side kicks and front kicks with it too!!! I just lean forward a bit and flick the kick away as it comes in. I know it's dangerous for me but it sure is fun seeing them getting pissed off cos i do a ridiculous leg block on them. Angus
  7. Yeah, quite right Tim. About the belts that is. I still don't like them though. Angus
  8. The other week, in sparring class, a woman from Kyokushin karate came to the dojo to train. I must say that she was very impressive. She could outfight the rest of the ladies and had a lot of the men on the run. I'm just glad that i had the height and strength advantage over her. Karate such as Shotokan and Kyokushin tends to focus more on actual fighting, whereas the GoJu system is very kata heavy. I'm just glad i have the kickboxing background to fall back on for my fighting skills. Angus
  9. Not specifically karate, but as with evey art, crostraining is needed. I'm doing the GoJu system of karate now and i am finding that there are not many practical moves for the street, though. Angus
  10. All of them... But if that was done then it'd just be like kickboxing.... That's a good idea - scrap it! Angus
  11. Yet again another upsetting example of the McDojo. Angus
  12. Heh, right on! As for fight preparation - i HATE. That's it, i hate. Hatred is my friend, along with pain. I did a thread on controlled rage or something ages ago and it caused a hubub. It's going to get me killed one day, and i know i'm not the best - but no-one will ever make me beg for my life. I'd rather die, knowing that i had the chance to spit my dislodged teeth into their eyes... Speaking of the best, i watched Best of the Best 2 a couple of hours ago. Then i did THE BEST WORKOUT EVER!! It is such a good movie! I should watch a martial arts movie every time i want to do a good workout. Angus
  13. It's especially good when u see their bewildered eyes before u plant your fists in them... Angus
  14. Meh! I speak english... I don't like the fact that the classes are run in Japanese, and i've never seen the term written down. I know Neko means cat, dashi means stance.... meh... In my school they count wrong anyway. ichi ni san shi go roku sichi hachi kyu ju.... what's sichi? it's nana! seven is nana!! i did japanese for 3 years, i know how to count to 10, that's it! Angus
  15. Good 2 c u mate! Angus
  16. I'm definately gonna have to get me into some Muay Thai... Angus
  17. Aw yeah, now i know what you mean... That's just a natural part of fighting. I just call it catching him off-guard. Basically u jump in straight away right? It can make your oponent freeze sometimes too! Angus
  18. That's the way to be Ken, ruthless... Damn i love to test my mettle against other people. You really know that you're alive. Angus
  19. Hey thanx dude, i set out to be honest. I just wish the general public was more open minded so i didn't have to go thru all this mundane 'i have to get a black belt' crap. It tests my patience at times but hey, i'm still a student and i always will be, so i might as well stick with it. Angus
  20. Are bricks walls meant to heave in and out like their breathing? Help, help help!! dfsghjg sdhjfgshgsdhjgsdhj Angus
  21. Yep, i even found the revered art of HapKiDo had these useless one steps in them... I really hated them. Angus
  22. Did you bend over and shoot fireballs too? Angus _________________ Reason with an assailant first, THEN break their face! - Angus Argyle This Message was edited by: Angus on Jul 27, 2001 5:05pm
  23. Yes yes yes!!! This is what i have been trying to say to TKD practitioners! You're afighting style would be so well rounded that you'd be very formidable. Awesome kicks and lock to boot! Angus
  24. Well, a couple of people. There's my brother Joe, who isn't a master but got me started on the path of martial arts. He showed me how to do my very first kick, the front kick to the stomach. He showed me how to use a bow and arrow, and he is one of my best friends - especially when i was a little kid. I was also inspired by a man that i don't think liked me much. He was my HapKiDo instructor (a 2nd degree BB) and his dedication to training was awesome - he shaped my personality greatly without even knowing it. I would also have to now say Shihan Sal Ebanez, although he does not train the same way i am used to, one cannot help but be inspired by this man. Angus
  25. I like the point that was brought up before about people who are just smart fighters and never actually have any formal fighting training. These people are a rare breed - imagine what they could do if they were given the best training available! This is also why we should never shoot our mouthes off about being able to kick butt cos we do martial arts. You never know when you're gonna run into an angry natural fighter who doesn't like to kick cos it's wussy! Angus
