Good site thanks -
Yes it is quite dull I learned one kata or set for six months that was extremely simple. Anyway I set off in a different direction and found batto-ryu and never looked back.
-
Thanks guys, where did you get them from?
-
Yes Batto-ryu and Ko yu chung style long sword>

I understood you wado lee, you are talking about shomen ni rei, sensei ni rei and otaga ni rei. The bow in at a traditional dojo. I always bow at sensei ni rei ( bow to your instructor) when I am instructing a class because while I may be teaching the class my instructors are quite often the students. I always bow during otaga ni rei (bow to a fellow student), because I am student as well as an instructor. I sure different dojo's have different ways of doing things but that is why I do it that way.

Well regardless of everybodies opinion on tournaments I believe our friend here is going to compete, I hear side kicks, reverse punches and backfists do well as long as it is not a judo tourney. One point of advice watch your control I know of some tournaments if you even tap the face instant DQ but good luck and train hard

Laughs conditioning, if you think miyagi conditioned children that is hilarious. Look I will be straight with you a close friend of mine trains with the yagi's several times a year. He told me this story: Everywhere in Okinawa miyagi students were known by appearence.... the appearence of giant welts in shape the of hands from shime conditioning during sanchin. He also never advertised his dojo because he felt teaching goju to just anyone was dangerous because of the lethality of the style. As for shuri te, naha te, and tomari te I am well aware of the okinawan geograpical construct. Miyagi was no commoner however he was wealthly enough to train full time. Now maybe he wasn't royalty like the people of shuri te but wasn't a commoner. I wouldn't disagree with you on the fact that if you trained a shuri dojo then went to tomari dojo that things would be different of course they would. I just think that the wealth of your knowledge lies with shorin ryu which I know very little about and would appriciate any knowledge that you can spare as for goju are you an expert ?

I self you are quite knowledgeable and I am sure that you are passionate about what you believe but again I will tell you that you are misinformed. The way you explain things so succintly, that if I didn't know better I would assume they are fact. The breathing in sanchin I was actually asking about, I didn't know about the health risks thanks for the advice. It was the remark that goju was a conditioning art and taught to commoners that is laughable and wrong. I am sure you will slam me for disagreeing with your interesting historical views, and when you do ask yourself just what are you trying to prove and to who? I appriciate knowledgable fellows but humility is more important than self rightousness and fortitude.

Eyes are your only defense, Firstly you must strengthen your spirit, Do this by adding intensity to you forms and partner drills. Secondly detach yourself if you are scared of a punch coming at you, think how much that second punch is going to hurt if you don't see it coming at all. Lastly if you have head gear with a full cage strap up take the punches until you can look them right down the pipe and not flinch.

What Drives a Martial Artist?
kotegashiNeo replied to ZR440's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I know why I started taking martial arts, that's an easy one I was a show off and jump kicks and all that XMA stuff would impress people. Now though I practice goju kata and that is pretty much it. I can't quite explain it fully, but it has tapped a obsessive nerve in my body, and I just want to practice all by my lonesome. This has occurred at the expense of my social life, I want to be a master, it seems as if it is in my blood. I do martial arts almost because I have to now. Not to prove anything just because I love it, every little damn detail -
Awesome train harder !!!!!!!

Villari infomercial " who needs an instructor"
kotegashiNeo replied to kempocos's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I agree with you pacificshore partially but in the end you need flesh and blood to give you the details regardless of your skill level or previous experience to grasp the true art. -
Laughs trial by fire eh? Whenever I get a mixed bag of students I mean from white to black I work basics kata and simple ippon kumite. Ippon kumite is very controlled so it reduces the chance of injury. I agree with wolves get the higher belt working on their own but keep an eye on them, and you will be just fine

Most popular weapon. which styles use which weapons
kotegashiNeo replied to Mink's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
In Okinawa kobudo there are 6 weapons bo, sai, kama, ebu, (oar) Bo, and nunchuku that's it but that is enough -
We have a probationary black belt for those who complete their black belt test but their skill doesn't quite messure up. they get to test again for shodan at the next available time

intimidating your sparring partner or not?
kotegashiNeo replied to ITSUKO's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Anyone who tries to intimidate forgets that a true warrior looks beyond the mask into the very heart of the person. Intimidation is for those lacking in skill who try to get an extra edge anywhere they can get it -
What you think of your dojo.
kotegashiNeo replied to Natural's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
My dojo is pretty killer it large enough to hold a class of 40 students but it needs some mats and a more martial feel to it. It is always clean, safe and a excellent place to train. -
My black belt test was almost 10 hours long and it is designed to make you quit and mentally collapse.
