  1. My advice is to breath britnoob watch closely and breath
  2. Not sure but it is not an okinawan kata and therefore not part of goju ryu but i hear the meibukan does it
  3. Exactly right telsun it is the breathing that creates the power and strength in sanchin not the tightening of muscles. Unfortunately someone saw a goju practioner and figured that they are squeezing thier muscles very tightly that is just bad for you and has nothing to do with san chen ps i used the chinese spelling because if you wanna know about goju you have check its origins and not just Mark Bishops published works
  4. You are talking about Yasuda Sensei, and I won't be there but my sensei will be.
  5. Very nice I am working on some of the very techniques as we speak but still need lots of practice
  6. You get the tai chi feeling in shisochin because there is a movement from tai chi in it called partition wild horses main the movements are almost identical. I tend to have the most problems with seisan but I love Kururufa it just feels like I am learning something new everytime. We do jundokan goju love it but have trained with some mebukan guys and like the way they do kata as well.
  7. Okay explain how it isn't Sakugawa because frankly I have seen a different version from a person that trained at pure martual arts and it wasn't right at all I know okinawan kobudo when I see it so explain how this is incorrect and more importantly why your version is the right one.
  8. I am working on Kurunfa man it is a tough kata, plus the finer points of Sepai oyu and the like
  9. K have heard of fudo dachi before never heard of sochin dachi hey but that is why I am here to learn
  10. Truth of it being no one really knows the origin of karate the records are at best inconclusive. I personally think that the west has lost the spirit of karate. Most people are interested in the quick fix minimal effort. The seek the end any end weekend book end, they tend to ignore the journey
  11. Sanchin stance you mean ?
  12. Offer free self defense seminars that have a theme and are directed at a certain demographic. ie rape prevention seminar target young twenty year-old women.
  13. Yeah a deadly combo, I think muay thai might be better though
  14. I would say seiunchin for both because it looks awesome from the begininning but has a mountain of oyu in it some of the best of goju, in my humble opinion.
  15. awesome I did kickboxing before I did goju ryu. Let me give you some advice work the katas hard and spare very little lightly. Be ready to be pleasantly suprised at the level of technical combative expertise put in these kata. Remember a punch is quite often not just a punch in goju. Train hard in kata and you will add a great deal of focus and knowledge to your skills. Chojun Miyagi stated that there are secrets in goju ryu look for them with great vigor. Happy trainning
  16. We do this kick in sanseiryu and is done to the inside of a knee after securing and arm and would be quite effective
  17. NO way his is completely overloaded! That is an understatement Chojun Miyagi would only teach one kata besides Sanchin depending on body type and other personal details. That kata is all you would train with him and if you wanted to learn any others you would have to learn from other students. The reason being is that kata must become an automated respone because it is full self defense combinations that are quite intricate and require pinpoint accuracy. To have any chance of you using them effectively they must be ingrained to your very sub conscious. If he has that level of understanding of 119 kata he is the supreme grand master of all things and even light cannot escape his powerful gaze.
  18. do you kick with the same foot you jump off with and do you land on it
  19. Yes the one footed jump kick compeitiions that they have in the north. Awesome they jump from the same foot kick with the same foot and land with it, they get up there pretty high if I remember. Quite a challengeing technique to do also
  20. I hear that the ab wheel is bad for the back
  21. Ask her out man just do it. A beautiful woman that does karate that is well........ just about perfect
  22. Which goju kata do you like to practice the most and why? Also which kata gives the most trouble and which kata do you think has the most realistic kata
  23. So how do practice neck breaks and nikuite to the throat? I train with strength in mind and many variations at my comand many techniques like cross arm lock and triangle chokes. I knew someone out there was gonna miss the point altogether and I am not suprised that one of you is a BJJ practioner. What I am talking about is stength of spirit that I gain from kata it is like nothing else I experienced. I trained muay thai and BJJ and it is similar to the spirit aquirred from randori or ring work but much more animalistic not to say more practical just more intense.
