  1. Thank you I believe that is what happened I am student of zen as well and this is my first taste of deeper understanding that many have spoke of thanks for your help.
  2. Kurunrunfa. If you know the kata I tell you the part that it happened at
  3. Three years one kata eh couldn't agree more
  4. I am not really sure about naihanchi but this much is true. Sancin really isn't a kata that is designed to teach fighting techniques even it can and does its real purpose is iron qigong. It isn't myopic focus it is about aligning stuff so stuff can flow now sensei jules is than man to speak on this more in depth than I but trust me sanchin is to strengthen the body and as with any kata the mind also
  5. give it time and be super friendly tell them about how glad you are that they came. Establish clear boundries about the acceptable behavior in class and you should be fine. Mostly relax have fun and they will too.
  6. I would best explain it as two techniques became one and then i realized that I was doing one kata not a series of movements but what lead me to this intuitive realization was that breath was connected in everything we do and as is our muscles and our mind and then i lost the feeling but it was something else do I have any students of zen in the house ? I think the sensation and zen are related somehow...........................
  7. No that is interesting I think this one of those things where there is no wrong answer and I appriciate the reply
  8. I am goju practioner, which is a very internal art Sanchin is a form of iron shirt qigong with that in mind I had a very strange thing happen while I was doing a high level kata it seemed that all the moves were not only linked by breathing and by the pattern of the kata but by something else. I would like to simplfy this and call it qi but it wasn't at least not in a form I was farmilar with. It felt almost like a total oneness that I wasn't doing a sequence of moves but one move that was linked by the energy of the preceding movement, it flowed only for a second and once I noticed it, it was gone, does anyone know what it was or what the......... I am talking about cause I am at quite a loss. It feels like I am on the edge of understanding something quite crucial and any sugguestions and opinons would be welcome.
  9. I really don't enjoy reading it anymore it is full of sensationalist nonsense. I do however enjoy the jounal of asian martial arts very well reserched
  10. Just wondering if how many of you would train and for how long if you never recieved a higher rank than you are now. You would still learn all the kata and different bunkai but never again would you recieve a grade higher than the one your are at now. Just wondering how important grading is to people
  11. The style of goju places great emphasis on being hit as the old masters realized that in combat you were going to sufer some sort of damage because there is always someone faster and stronger or more skilled and what can be a great equalizer is the ability to absorb damage. If you have ever sparred a goju man you probably noticed this he packs a mean punch and is tough as nails
  12. Thank you I have been looking for the one with ryu for ever these are well done
  13. well Ken Jacobs is goju ryu as is the kyobukan
  14. Shoron ryu I agree with every word you just said
  15. The white crane videos are great shows the partial chinese origins of goju
  16. Just being a disciple of Master Jules would get me pumped but as for think about what happens if you don't train. think off all the negitive aspects of not training, then imagine after six months of dedicated training the skill you will aquire how much your level of fitness you increase and all the other benefits you will aquire from doing martial arts. You seem to link pain with doing martial arts, I always link pain with not training thats me
  17. Using lesson plans are a great aid for Making classes run smoothly as for keeping track of what they have done before, well as long as the dojo is small you should be able to but I think this is easier. Assign techniques that they are responsible for at each belt level as well as kata and self defense
  18. I am sorry but that kata is not strong and is heavily modified in a way I have never seen before, and I have trained in both Japanese and okinawan systems.I am speaking about the website not the DVD Morio Higaonna is first rate karateka and his DVD's are quite excellent. Bottom line though find out from your sensei what type of goju you are doing there are several houses that are notible I can help you more after I know which kan or house kata's you are doing
  19. Informer I am quite aware of what the Meibukan teaches after I take goju but my friend did learn that kata insinde a meibukan dojo so go figure. Hey do you train with Yagi Family in Okinawa? Just wondering how you know what they teach there ?
  20. You must train mebukan goju cause a friend of mine knows that kata he says it is version of unsu modified Aragaki was in jail it is a very cool looking kata
  21. I apologize but this typical american Mcdojo behavior, lack of respect and manners. Not a suprise coming from a man who is a legend in his own mind.
  22. Many excellent throws performed with O-Goshi and Osoto Geri, especially the first one major hip throw and you land on them after. Ouch!
  23. Yeah Zhong we use what is called shime testing to ensure that the student is doing the kata properly but there is nothing as drastic as what you sugguest just a few well place "pats" on the shoulders and some grabbing of the ankles among others
  24. Successfully grade for Nidan
  25. good points delta never even looked at it that way
