  1. Wasp, you COMPLETELY missed my point. We aren’t talking about holding someone down to break their leg! You said, if we can break bricks, why don’t we see fighter being broken in half, my reply was because we MOVE in a fight, where as a brink is still. Yes, if a human was held stable, a good hit would do the trick, but that isn’t the case. We are talking about a fight, not a POW camp. There is no one holding your leg down so they other guy can break it in a Tournament, at least no tournaments I’ve been too! My implication was during a fight, now some twisted torture chamber where the Henchmen hold you down while the interrogator snaps your legs into several pieces!
  2. Because the cinder blockand a bricks and huncks of ice and board are hard, the human body is plyable. When using a sword in Re nFaries, they say an thick rope hung at one in and lose at the other gives the resitance of a human body. I'd like to see a master Breakers try and slam that in to. If they just set the cinder block lose, and let the guy go at it on the floor, he might end up playing soccer with is all day. The wood they use in board breaking, they make sure to dry it out! The reason humans don't get ripped in to is because they move around to much. Why is it when you hit someone i nthe jaw, and you hit a brick, but a full force, your fist takes more damage on the brick? The human body was make to take things, and move and adjust to it. We are like a wet board, a whip, we most when get hit. The brick doesn't. So, what force isn'ts used to smash the human jaw, move the humans head, but what force isn't used to smash the brike is used to smash your fist! THAT is why people don't get snapped in two.
  3. How about you just avoid getting into cars with people who want to fight you!? If you have to, take a hint from Morphous in Matrix Reloaded, and use the seat belt properly… that is, as a restraint
  4. The Shaolin, like everyone else said, train all day, all week, all year. They have some crazy exercises, too. And as for Mothers, it is all about the Sympathetic Alarm Reaction. See, fear, anger, emotions like the register as the same in your body, and the SNR is turned on and it: 1. Increase blood pressure 2. Increased blood flow to active muscles concurrent with decreased blood follow to organs not needed for rapid activity 3. Increased rate of cellular metabolism through the body 4. Increased blood glucose concentration 5. Increase glycolysis in muscles 6. Increased muscle strength 7. Increased mental activity 8. Increased rate of blood in Coagulation This is why she exceed her “normal capabilities” when her son was trapped under the car. Besides it was one of those old fashion fiberglass body VW bugs, not like she was lifting an SUV here!
  5. Breaking is just a trick. There's a technique to it, and it has little to do with strength, and nothing to do with Chi. Little kids can break a pile of cinder blocks, it doesn't make them strong, and it doesn't mean they can hit hard, using Chi or not. Even with all the andrenaline and chi in the world, little kids are still panty-waists. Enlighten us, oh wise one, as to what this technique is that is used to break. If there is a way of break that allows 5 year olds girls to break, I’m going to quite college and go on the road! If it is so little to do with strength, and nothing to do with Chi, then please tell me what the secret that only you seem to know is, so I can stop wasting my time at the gym, and become a championship Strongman!
  6. Yeah, they called them Cestus. They normally had metal studs or spikes on them to, and htey where mainly used to brutalize your foe even more. Many Warrior wore them in battle aswell, to beat the crap out of there foe if the fighting go to close for the sword and spear. What are you fererrnig to is good old fastion Fisticuffs. It is the stance taken by the Mascot of the Notra Dam, right? With the backs of the fist facing you oppenent? Yeah. It was a bit different from the boxing we see today, and it was more a street fighting style then a sport. Nah, you have a pretty good grasp, I just wanted to fill a we things in.
  7. And they a flexible like you'd never geuss! Those guys are azaming Fighters in their own right.
  8. Shadow boxing is a great work out. It helps to picture your selfi nthe rign with someone while you do it, and picture yourself conterign his move as you box. Stone skin pretty much covered it good. Don't forget ,yo ucna add kicks if you want. And don't hit hard, you don't want to hurt your joints and lock out, you're not going to Knock out the air.
  9. Oh yeah. They slap like hell, and they end up with whelps in there torso at the end! Part of the rules, no close fist hits. Thats no punches, no hammer fists, etc. But they can slap, and slap they do! I have a friend in the Army, he is stationed in Italy, he says over there, there is a law that you can't hit close fisted, so the Italian men get into slap fights... no comment...
  10. It can be any number of things. Fluid, joints are a little lose, the cartilage or ligaments might be rubbing together. As hazardous as these things sound, it is fine, you are not in trouble, almost everyone’s joints pop. Stoneskin is right, don’t worry about it.
  11. On the Bench, I'd use higher weights. If your not a powerlifter, and use higher sets. Maybe sat with 8 reps, and keep adding 5 lbs a work out. The Bench is great for the chest. Dumbbell flys are great, too.

  13. I'm suggest finding a group you like, and start going to that church, talk with the Leader of that church, tell him your situation. Remimber, they do have McJesus Churches, don't let the posers cause you to stumble, find the truth! The following is a great forum that I'm a part of, they talk about all kinds of good stuff, Christianity being the focus, ofcourse. Those guys can answer your questions. It might be a good palce to start. http://forums.christiansunite.com/index.php
  14. Your both right, it is like UFC, and it is where the WWE comes from. This is an American style. The Greeks had a similer art, they would cover then selves in oil, and wrestle in the buff, till one of them broke. Catch-as-catch-can wrestling started in the Carnvals, they would travel across the country side, and set up a ring like they use in the WWE in a tent, and the local good ol' boys would be able to challange the Wrestlers. Scratching, biting, etc, etc, it was all legal. Remimber, this was a time before TVs and all that good stuff. The Carnvals arn't nearly as popular as they where today. It formed into a serous sport, and a big part of the phycial culture of the era.
  15. Sumo is a great sport, but it is a sport more then anything. There matches don't lastm ore then a few second, and anytime anything other then your feet touch the clay, it's over, and they can't kick or punch. That is why I think they don't work in the UFC, they have no experance with groundwork, and even if they didn't they are to big to move fast on the ground. Now, in a regular street fight against an untrained foe, I thnk they would own. They are HUGE, and strong, they would man handle the other fighter, with a barroom brawler/longshoreman like style, plus htey have basic takedowns, they can just leg sweep a guy, and jump on him, the 300-400 lbs would increase exponentally when he jumps on you, we are talking over 1000 psi landing on your chest! yeah, against in untrained fighter, or a beginner, the Sumo's would own!
  16. Sounds like it could be any number of things. You might have dislocated it, or broke up, or bruised it. How knows. Take some Ibuprofen to bring the inflamation down, ice it for 30 minutes a day, and tape it up when in class, ot keep it from moving around and being more damage. If the pain contenues, go to a doctor. I know you said your not a fan of doctors, but this could hender your Martial Arts in the future if your not carefull.
  17. Pecs- Bench Press, Dumbbell flys, Dumbbell bench press Front Shoulder and Pecs- Incline Bench Press Front Shoulder- Military press Side Shoulder- Lateral Raise, upright row Rear Shoulder- Rear lateral Raises, High Barbell row
  18. Rich- What is your program like in the gym? Warp- Again, I say, you should join High School Football. In season, that sounds about right. We run prob about 5-7 mile, then we run more with the drill and more on hills, dude, training till 7 at night, they train miles and miles more then Chen did! THe bag work, I've know Goldern Gloves Boxers to work on the bag for haurs at a time, and I'm sure the Pros train even longer! The sit-ups are done is 2 sets, making it easier to survive, and the push-up sitation he discribes isn't unlikely at all, you go to look at guy in the military, they have done 1000 of them at once. The rest of it is just as likely and possable. You said 8.5 hour minimum, you are twisting your own facts. 8.5 hours Max! You took the largest amount on the first one, you put a 7 mile run, he said 2-7. Now, lets look at the average High School Football Program for a Senior: Get at school at 7 and train till second peroidat 9:45 so that is what, 2:45 hours of training Get out around 1:30, lift for an hour 3:30 Time for Pratice, REAL football pratice, and we train till around 7, 9 if Coach is in a bad mood. that is 5:30 hours That is around 9 hours a day of work. And we always make it to state, atleast the first round. Just because you can't handle it doesn't mean other can't!
  19. Yeah, dynamic tension is just a fancy way to say "isometrics" There was a lot of that back in the day. Case in point, this is my favorite picture: http://pic7.picturetrail.com/VOL208/994433/1850393/22657537.jpg Before he was the Terminator, was the "Wildcat"! lol. Now a days, people find more money selling rip off Supplaments, thou.
  20. Weights are WAY better. I've been an sevreal sports, and Weights have helped me in all of them. Why should martial arts be any different? It is simple, Strength is usefull in fighting, and weights gets you more strength and sooner. Weights are better. If you ahve to, use body weight exercises, but when possable, weights!
  21. Yeah, Warp, I'm geussing you've never played football or any kind of that nature, that stuff is possable. We are talking about High School Footbal Star can do that. Rich- I run and bike when I can't get to the Dojo, and I lift 3 times a week. I do a full body program, made for wrestlers. I do JuJitsu, so I find wrestler's program works great. I can build you a w weight program if you able to get to the gym, What art do you pratice, and how many days a week can you get your hands on some weights?
  22. I think you should life weights. I just started a Jujitsu class, I can’t do jack while standing, but I own the ground! And I’m only like around 5’5”! Learn some joint locks, like arm bars and leg entanglements. Since you teacher in a Judoka as well, he may not go for the leg idea, but learn some arm bars. Learn the lock people up every time they give you a limb. If they can’t give you a limb, it doesn’t matter how tall they are!
  23. You have to understand that capularys are EXTREMELY small. We are talking so small, only one red blood cell at a time can pass thru them. We aren't talking about massive veins or anything here. People have been hitting heavy bags for ages. You will be fine. As you hit the bag bare knuckle (starting off small) you will dovelop calusseson your hands, these should do a little to protect against damage.
  24. Where is the pressure centered? Sounds like it might be turning into an ingrown nail.
  25. Karate-Women hit the nail in the head. agnostic don't know if there is a god, Athiest know there isn't a god.
