Yeah, those contests are fun to have. I beleive Mr. Olympia has a Bench your body weight for 30 reps contest for the fans. I've never competed, but I heard it was fun. You know, nothing big, just some fun for the fans, like Battle of the Biceps. You get trophey, a pic with a fitness model, a little cash, etc. Loon, try benching your weight for 30 reps, that will humble you. You will see plent of guy at powerlifting meets who can do 300+ max(to bad I'm not one of them), but most of them can't do 50 push-ups on the spot. Your muscles can outlift, but can they out last? lol

Stone, how many "thugs" have you faced? These "thugs" you are talking about seem to ENJOY fighting. So, when they meet someone who act strong and agressive, it seem to me they would naturally perfere to fight the person who acts cocky and agressive. If someone is picking a fight with you, and you act like you are angry and agressive, do you think they are going to back down in front of all their boys, and admitt they fear you? NO! They are going to fight, and they might even grab a weapon. They are going to fight, "thugs" or not, must guys have to much pride to pic ka fight, then back down like a pussy. They will go thru with it, unless you give them a way out. You can act confandant, act in controll and brave, but don't act like you are angry with them. Even if you give them a way out, when you are acting like Mr. Tough guy, they might see it as an act of pity on your part, and get pissed off at you! Stand streight, speak in your most commanding voice, smile, then say something along the lines of "Come on, Bro, you don't want to brawl in front of all the people, in the hard, unforgiving asfalt. Let me buy you a drink." Don't laugh, I've done it before. You don't need act argessive to fight. The angry fight starts the fight, the calm one finish it.

Thuggish- telsun's right, your thinking of Bench press. He is talking about Push-ups. By Press-up, I think he means another name for a push up, not the barbell exercise. I like Dumbbell bench Presses, too. They give you a better range of motion. Great for Powerlifting. Hey, Thug, I posted a post i nthe General board about Strength Sports. I haven't check that board yt, but if you haven't already, why don't you reply a threat. I see you're a weight lifter. telsun- The bench press is a "freeweight" exercise. Freeweights= using barbells and dumbell, not using machine. "Body weight" is what you mean, I think. Body weight= using your natural body weight as resitance, such as in push-ups and pull-ups. Are you referring to the Press-up as a push-up, or the shoulder exercise with a barbell?

Depends on the Master teaching it. You are going to have to visit both classes for a night, and see who it working harder, who is sweating more, and whose students look like they are more in shape. Students are a great way to measure the schools progress.

You will be glad to know that Health experts all over the world agree with you, 8% body fat is unhealth. about 10-15 is minimum for males, and you can still see abs with that amount. Any less then that, your either sick or dead. Now, many body builders do this, drop to 3% body fat, stop drinking water, and do many other unhealthy things to look cut for shows. If you could go back stage and see the body builders leaning against the wall between rounds, you would see how unhealth and uncomfortable it is. You had 3% body fat? Did you go to have it tested? Or is that just a guess? When Pro Body builders, whose job it is to look cut, and whoi take drugs to keep body fat down, can't keep that body fat percentage that low for very long, you had it at 3%? Man, what was your secret? Cut and defined muscles are a sign that you have large muscles build up under little fat, and no one NEEDS them.

I totally agree with Nathan. You can be have you chest out, stand straight, with your arms over your chest, and not be aggressive. It is fine to be self-confident and not cocky or violent.

Remimber the Theme? lol Teanage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Teanage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Teanage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Hero's in a half shell, Turtles Power. Blah blah blah, Something about Do blah Something about Leo, Raf's cool but rude, Mike is a party dude. lol, that show was so lame. Back in the day, it kicked some ass. 10 times the cartoon Pokemon will ever be! My question is, did anyone here join Martial Arts because of the influence TMNT had on there childhood?

I was posting a thread on the General board and I got to thinking about something: Do you guys think Martial Artists who mainly go to breaking competitions should be counted as Strength athletes? Brick and board breaking are classic events in the Strongest Man Contests. So, Are breaker Martial Artist, Strength Athletes, or both?

Anyone else here into strength sports? Body Building, Powerlifting, Olympic Weightlifting, highland games, WSM, etc, etc. I’ve been to a Body Building contest, I did powerlifting for 2 years at my school and on the Amateur circuit, and I tried my hand at the Highland Games a few times. What about you guys?

Start running a little, to drop your fat lower. You going to have to boost your abs. Crunches, Sit-ups, Reverse crunches. Some day, use weight, other days, go for reps. The Roman Chair can REALLY kick your abs! Some say it is bad for the back, by I’ve found nothing but a nice set of abs from doing them. Get your self doing sit-up on one of them, and you will grow great abs. But, You need to see with works for you, not for us. What works for me may not work for you. And don’t neglect your Obliques. Do twist-ups and twisting crunches. 50-100 sit up isn’t going to be enough. Maybe 50-100 PER SET!

Not to mention the time we would spend in prison for assaulting a cop. Cop are for the most part over-weight chain smoker with GED’s, to beat up a cop doesn’t make you good, it make you an idiot. The Courts will believe an over-weight high school drop with a blue/black/tan uniform over a PhD with a 10th Dan Black belt who pastors a church! -
You don't need to get more aggressive in a fight. Anger makes you stupid. Seen the hulk yet? Human go thru a simpler physiological effect. You get angery, your Sympathetic nervous system causes something called the Sympathetic Alarm Reaction kicks in your brain. This is more commonly known as Fight or Flight. The cause the body to increased strength, Increased metabolism, Increased blood glucose concentration, and many other things. When you get excited, angry, or any other similar emotion, your nobody gets ready to defend it selves. In the primitive animal world, anger, aggression, and assault are one and the same thing. The body just knows that you might need to defend you set, and puts you in "fighting" mode. The problem with this, you may not always have full control of your factuality’s, because blood in decrease to the part of your body not needed for fighting, such as parts of your brain. You can be “aggressive” when using the word to describe your “go get it” attitude, but as for true mad-as-hell-angry fighting, that is big mistake. You mind need to get like a smooth pond, not white water rapids. I'm with Chen, pratice staying calm

Define Oriental foods. You know, some of those “Chinese” food places can be pretty greasy. I’m just curious.

No problem, thats what we are hear for! Any more questions? I'm sure we are all happy to answer. -
granmasterchen, I have to disagree with you. Calistenics and isometrics just don't build mass nearly as good as lifting weights. Push-ups and curling milk jugs, yes, but everything else...

"THE EDUCATION OF A BODYBUILDER" is one of them ost inprierational wieght lifting book you willever read, and it has some great stuff in it for training! "The New Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding" is another great one by Arnold. If you want a great book on training, get "Getting Stronger" by Bill Pearl. Arnolds Book focus only on Body Building (he is, after all, a body builder), and it don't even give good coverage of that sometimes. Pearl is a Body Builder too, but for strength, and the biggest List of exersices and best programs, "Getting Stronger" is the top of the heap. -
I love wine. I don’t get drunk, but I will have a glass or 2, or a few bottles of wine coolers once or twice a week. All the surrounding counties are dry counties, so we have to either dry to Cuny, the only wet town on 50 miles or pay the extra club fees, anyways. It kind of help many from getting drunk. But, this is Redneck country, people still drink like fish!

Man, you are small! lol. I know what you mean, there is a guy in class who is shorter then me and skinnier then me, and though he has great form and flow, and more skill, I manhandle him all over the mat, I have at least 20 lbs on the guy. Can you answer a few questions for me: What days do you have free? How many days a week do you plan on training? Do you have the means to sign up, pay, and make it to the local gym that many times a week? A few notes, in grappling, think of your back and biceps are your offensive muscle and your chest and triceps as your defensive muscles. You need to use your back and biceps to pull your foe to you in a hold, and your check and triceps to force him away so he can’t put you I in hold. Legs are very important, think of them as your motor, moving you around. You want a V4 or a V8? Taking all this into mind, I’d say go for this kind of program: Day 1: Back/Bicep Day 2: Legs Day 3: Chest/Triceps Light abs and lower back training everyday. Pretty simple, and ratehr common, program, 3 days a week. Let me know if your cool with this and I’ll help you fill in the exercises. -
What do you mean by "deflect" blows? In the Style of Jujitsu we pratice, you are taugh feint to the right or left, so that even if he hits, it deflects the blow. Thanks for all your advice, it sounds like it is worth the time to fix it up,
