  1. My studio is out in the boonies (In Texas, all the good ones are out in the boonies, lol). Anyway, I was cleaning up out back behind the Dojo, and I found the remains of a Wing Chung dummy. I think I can salvage it, with a little elbow grease and a few 2x4’s... anyways, I was wondering if you guys think it was worth it for a School that teaches Karate and Jujitsu to have a Wing Chung dummy? In this area (Bucket of the bible belt) the attendance at the school fold from a group of 20 to no one for a year. I’m guessing it came from back when the school was busy. I’ve seen pictures, but I’ve never really learned to use one of these. I’m totally new to this. I wanted talked to the Sensei, but I'm sure he will show us, but I just want to know exactly what you do with it. Just combinations and such? Is the Dummy only good for Wing Chung, or does it work great for general blocking and sticking and striking and hand speed? Any help can be grateful.
  2. I've always wanted to pratice Ninjitsu, just for the Stealth skills. No in my area kteaches it, but I think it would be interesting to try some day, if I ever get the chance.
  3. I do push-ups at the beginning of my chest workout. If you want to do 300 push-ups after your workout, go for it! Muscle stimulation is muscle stimulation. Just don't work work yourself, and you will be find!
  4. I never though about that bane guy. good point! Remimber who a part of Neo was cpoiedon to Agent Smith, maybe Neo got that power from Smith. Yeah, the stars would try to keep it hush hush. But the way he said it in the interveiw, they didn't even ask him he brought it up, like it was just a fact. He didn't have to say a thing about it. We will see in Revo.
  5. It is. Your body, when it health, it only gets stronger. Feel a former broken bone, they have bone calluses on them, making the broken bone ever stronger then the regular bone. Your body adapts and get stronger. Mentally, you mind gets used to it, and the bones and muscle and skin on your legs and arm grow tougher so it can take the blows better. No longer term effects of this either, your body is don’t just what it is suppose to do, like when the Thai Boxing guys toughen there shins, or the Karateke toughen there knuckles on the striking posts.
  6. There are several reasons why they don’t move up: For one thing, It is hard to gain weight for some people. After about 2-3 years of working out, gain become hard fought, and they have trouble putting on and/or keeping off the pounds. For another thing, the Heavy Weight class normally is full of guys who fight rather different then light weights. Light weights normally rely on speed, heavy normally on hard blows. The styles are just different. An other thing, (and I know this being so short) is that most of the Heavy Weights are tall guys, most of the lighter weights are shorter. The big guys have better reach, and harder hits. How much do you weight now?
  7. About the Matrix in a Matrix Theory- It is a good theory, but the main piece of evidence is the way Neo stopped the Squids. BUT, in a interview with Newsweek Magazine, Reaves said this was merely an Empathy with Machine that Neo has developed. But, it would made more since for the Architect to build a second matrix for the rebellious people, in let them FREE! So, we will find out soon enough.
  8. See is your High School or college will let you train in there weight room. You’re going to have to get some weights, especially if you want to bring your shoulders up. How long before your local gym is rebuilt? Are there any other local gyms? Sometimes Police stations and Hospitals have gyms they open to the public, look into that.
  9. BBD- Your getting a lot of mixed signals, everyone is saying something different. And in this case, none of us are wrong! See, you human body is so complex, everyone’s body is different. The is the result from millions of years of evolution and adaptation. I mean, someone’s ancestor may have been Calvary men, and they have strong upper body but weak legs, another persons ancestors could have been farmers, and there muscle recover faster, while another yet could have been hunters, and have faster reflexes. Our bodies now are the accumulation of that, we are all different. If you really want to know what problem works best for you, you are going to have experimenting with different programs and exercises Now, Cyph, don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. Isolation exercises have there place for strength and mass. The yare not as useful as the free weight exercises, but there are only so many free weight exercises, and the muscles move in so many ways.
  10. lol, no it wasn't. Are we talking about the same Initial D? Tofu Delivery Boy turned Street racer story? The Speed Racer for a New Millennium? The use of Computer animation along with classic artwork proves it is atleast a few years old. But I'm pretty sure it is a new Manga/Anime. I mean, they aren't even finished dubbing it (Yes, I know, most Otaku think dubbing sucks, but that is beside the point)!
  11. I second that! That is where I’m training at now, it is great!
  12. Yeah, Bloosport was a good movie. Personally, I like JCVD, but his rescent movies suck! Legionnaire was bad enough, nothing after it is worth seeing.
  13. I have, and it looks pretty cool. Fast and the Furious meets GTO.
  14. looks good, I'm going to give it a try tonight!
  15. Are you asking what happens when you bruise, or what clauses the lumpy shins? Bruises are collections of blood under the skin where small blood vessels break. It is literal bleeding in the skin. Sometimes it can cause lumps, but your lumps might also be from bone bruises, or maybe calluses. No real long term problem. Your blocking points may be misshapen, and you may have some discoloration (and those are both maybes), but nothing that should effect your performance, until you start getting older, and nature takes its course.
  16. Isn't the BEST Anime in the world, but I like it. The movie, Samuri X, is much better then the show, I think. I saw the movie first, then a freind brought the first few episodes for us to watch, and I though Kenshin had turned into a puss, the reverse blade sword, the PINK jacket. But, I guess the show kind of grew on me, I like it now.
  17. The squat does work pretty much ever muscle in your body, all your lower body and some of your upper. It does focus in the quads, but it uses that Gluts, inner thigh, Soleus, calf, Hamstrings, lower back, traps, abs and obliques. It works some muscle isometricly, yes, but it works all those muscles. These two exercises are not “PERFECTLY IDENTICAL” because if they were, they would call it a machine squat! See if you can do the same weight on the leg press as you can do on the free weight squat. You can’t, because the leg press and Squat work the leg muscles differently. Machines are known for isolating muscle more, because they don’t use the stabilizer muscles as much. You need to use free weights to gain mass better, machines to get better tone and shape. Squats are only dangerous for those who do “something really stupid” like use improper form or to much weight. Ask any body builder, and many of them will say to do squats. Squats are only dangerous to those “Muscle and Fiction” readers who don’t know who to do them properly or let their egos get in the way of there 1RM!
  18. My main problem with the program is that it doesn’t have very much in the way of legs. For most sports, legs are going to be used more then upper body, and why not, your legs have the strongest muscles in the body. That is only 3 lower body exercises a week, compared to the 15-20 upper body exercises. Granted, the upper body has more muscle groups, but exercises like the bench press work most of them in one sitting. 8 reps is a good range, but I have a agree with Thuggish, if you want to gain mass and strength, once a week just will not cut it for a guy as skinny as you. As for the abs, Abs are a very strange muscle group, no 2 people have the same way of working there abs. You are going to have to play around a little bit, see what works best for you with the abs, one a week or 5 times a week, what exercises, etc.
  19. You want power, speed, strength, endurance and a hard body? Break it up into different kinds of work outs. Track work and Sparring (cardio) for Endurance and speed. Weight lifting for Strength and that Hard body. Of course, they will all overlap. The Cardio will get you a hard body and strength, along with weight training. As for the “weight gain program” you can still gain weight and loss fat. You can gain it muscle. I’m sure that is what he meant by “weight gain,” it meant gain muscle. Those Body Builders you see are a good 200-300 pounds, and they have less then 3% body fat in contest! Post the program your friend gave you, bro, let us have a look at it.
  20. The shoulder is one massive joint ,and much easier to injury then the knees. The Knees make contact, the Femur bone of the thigh and the Tibia of the shin meet under the Patella. The Humerus doesn’t touch the Scapulae, unlike the knee joint, it does not have the extra support of the bone. The joint is entirely supported by the muscles that move it. The Bench Press is much more dangerous then the squat. If he is going to do leg presses for fear of hurting his knees, then he should use a machine press for fear of hurting his shoulders. On top of that, the Leg press only recruit the muscles of the Quadriceps, with a little bit on the muscles of the lower body. The Squat encompasses most of the muscles in your body, Sure, it works some more then others, but the great majority of your muscles are worked in a squat. It is a must-do for mass gaining.
  21. I’m still young and active, so not really. I did have no grappling skill when I first start Jujitsu a little while down, so I kind know how you feel. Boxing, Kick Boxing, Karate, those were my thing, then I went to my first JuiJitsu class, but beat into the ground like tent stake, lol. I asked the Assistance Sensei to come with me later in the week and train with me. That is how I got caught up with the other white belts. Maybe ask your Sensei if he has time to spend with you. As for the push ups, your going to have to train your way back up to that, bro Good luck!
  22. I have you disagree with Thuggish, for mass, Squat is the best for the legs. If you are worried about hurting your knees in the Squat, then you REALLY need to stop the Bench Press, because the Bench Press causes more strain on your shoulders then the Squat does to your knees. Just play around with both Squat and leg press, see which one you like best. Celltech is a rip off. It isn’t that the stuff doesn’t work, it is that Celltech is basic Creatine. They over charge for something you naturally produce! They charge you some extra cash for the “Muscletech” logo. I’m not a fan of Creatine, but you are welcome to try it if you want, and there are plenty of brands that work just as good that are WAY cheaper.
  23. There is very little difference between walking a mile and running a mile. Sure, you lose a little more a little faster with running, but not by much. And walking is easier on the joints.
  24. Lets take a look at the most probable situation, you could be a Hardgainer. I'm 5'5" and your lighter then me! You must be come beanpole! There is a damn good chance you are a nature hardgainer. That isn't an excuse, it is a reason to train harder! How much are you in the weight room? Get in there! Next is your diet, you eat 3000+ cals a day, what does it consist of? 3000 cals of healthy protein and carbs, or 3000 cals of coke? What do you eat, bro? Good luck, bro.
  25. Which book do you refer to? He has several. What kind of training does be suggest before you even touch a weight? Body weight exercises., I take it? I have never this, but it sounds interesting. I’m going to have to look into this more.
