Sumo vs. Other arts
Tibby replied to StoneSkin's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
I said the shot put wasn't a martial art because of the way they train in shot put. Who so? The Shot is ed from a Classic weapon of the Tribes of Northern and Western Europe. Why is the way something in trained effects wither it is a Sport or a Martial Art? Shot put, they pratice by actually throwing, and they pratice kata, they work on just form. Many Martial Arts pratice by sparring and by doing Kata. Why does training differently effect the fact that they are Martial Art or not? Mauy Thai and Judo are trained very differently, but they are both Martial Arts. As I recall: You said nothign about training. The only prerequisite for being a Martial Art you have mentions is for it to have origins in combat for some kind. That being the case, no, Sumo would not be a Martial Art, but that would also mean the Shot Put is a Martial Art. -
No joke. This is a combat style all the way!

Samurai vs. Kali Warrior
Tibby replied to Treebranch's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Um, Britain DID try to Conquer America again, there was that little mess around the year of 1812. No money in losing, is there? No the Moro are not Christian, they don’t have Spanish last names, and they were not Technically Conquered. But, Muslims only make up about 5% of the country. So lets face it, they did a piss-poor job at fighting back the Spanish! Meanwhile, Japan has always been its own country, and it still follows many Philosophies and Religions it has for centuries. If the state of the Countries are any indication, the Samurai are better. The only reason the Samurai are not around now is because of the Peace Japan had for that long stretch of time during end and after the Tokugawa period. So, you could say the Samurai did such a good job, Japan didn’t need them anymore... They had no reason to fight anymore, they where not conquered, they where at peace with everyone. Meanwhile, from what I can tell of the Kali’s, they did a pretty bad job of fighting off the would-be conquerors, because you can clearly see the signs of Spanish colonization in the Philippines. All of the Westernization in Japan was taken willingly after the Emperor came back into power. -
Sweet. Tell us how it goes.

Caffeine, Ephedrine, B complex, sugar, etc, the drinks are full of good things like that. They boost your energy, but only for a short time, then you crash. I’d advise a good multivitamin and some fruit. That should boost your energy levels, with no side-effects.

grappling big and small
Tibby replied to StoneSkin's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Yeah, it is a lot of fun to just pile out int othe yard and go at it purely for fun, but that is all it is good for, fun. If everyone is at the same skill level, you will plateau. You need to do to a class. It is a waste of time to learn a thing or 2 from somebodys, you have to learn the Art or Style, not just a move or 2! -

Don’t believe that mess about it never being and farming utensil. The Sai-like weapons from China had much over blades. If anything, the Jutte came from the Chinese weapon. But we agree the yare all weapons. I’ve been a Sumo fan for a while now, and no one I know how is a Sumo fan places the sport over the Ritual, seeing as the sport is part of the Ritual. So, you classify the Shot Putt as a Martial Art, but not Boxing? Yeah, I’m looking into Asian History as a minor. PM me sometime. -

Yeah, I like those. WOrking a Blockbuster, I got most of them for free, crazy movies, fun to watch, and fun to dub Anyone watch Kung Fuax? That is a crazy show! Those old 70's Movies, dubed over in Hip-hop fashion. Instead of hearing: "You are not ready to fight him yet, my son, I shall teach you the way of the fist." You hear: "Damn, bro, you must trippin? You ain't got da * to handle that foo! Hang with me, I'll get you some game, dog!" It is the greatest! -
Yeah, what he said. If it hasn't gone away in this time, you need to see a doc about it.

Sumo vs. Other arts
Tibby replied to StoneSkin's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
What about Boxing? Boxing isn’t a Martial Art? It wasn’t made in a war, it was always a sport. Muay Thai, the History of Muay Thai is almost identical to that of Sumo, 2 kings battling it out for there fate. Similar to the story of Sumo’s to Gods. Then, there is the story of the POW who when a few rounds with several guards to gain his freedom. Sports. Does that not make them martial arts? Weapons like the Nunchucks and Sias where originally Farming implements, so does that mean they are not Martial Arts Weapons? So, with do you classify as a Martial Art? Something that was forged in the heat of battle? What about Field Throwing event’s such as the Javelin Throw, hammer throw, and shot put. These events stemmed from battle, so does that make them martial arts? See, And most of Japan watch it for the Sport, not the small amount of Pre-Tournament Rituals. That is like saying We American’s watch the Superbowl because we like the Halftime show! -

Do you know how many other MA's fall under the same catagory you guy mentioned!? Ok, is there is a ritualistic sport, but it is also a fighting art. Before modern times, it was much more voilient, they have made it mroe of a sport, but it is an Martial Art. Go a head, tell Sumotori he isn't a Martial Artist. Tell him he is just a pawn for some old religion, not a fighter. He and anyone that knows a thing or two about the pratice of Sumo will disagree. -

Samurai vs. Kali Warrior

Well, that is a bad example, the Romans said the same things about the Franch when they first met in Gail. They spent more time and money trying to take over Gail, and they never did, by the time one part was down, another group was ready to fight. -

I doubt it would be easy for someone that huge to grapple on the ground! Little guys have the greatest advitance most of the time. And it is more due the the fact that they FEEL pain less, not that they can take more. More padding around the muscles and organs. -
Aikido and Judo
Tibby replied to Metsubushi's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Like I said before, the Judo of Judo isn't Kano's Judo, but Kano's Judo was still a sport. You can use it for self defence, yes, but I've always beleived it was made as a sport. It is toned down JuiJitsu, why would Kano do that if not for sports reasons? -
sparring
Tibby replied to Drunken Monkey's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
lol, I said Juijitsu, not WWE, bro. This is sparring, the point is to pratice combat, not fight. Anyone who is doing those thing you listing isn't sparring, he is fighting. DOn't confuse Full-contact SPARRING with full-contact FIGHTING. -
sparring
Tibby replied to Drunken Monkey's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Full contact, strikes and grappling with no head or knee targets, or Judo rules. -
I'm with Chris, they have Acupuncture as Majors in Colleges! If you mess up, with wouldn't be very pretty. Just be carefull.

I think you are a little confused. The Abs are muscles. The "6-pack" is the shape the muscle take, like the biceps take a dome shape or the Triceps take a horseshoe shape, for example. They can build, by you want to tone them. A combo of lots of cardio and MANY different ab work outs will get those things out. Body weight, weighted, sit-ups, crunches, etc, etc.

I know many Eastern Dragons where good guys, as appose to the monsters in Western tails. The Guarded Villages, bridges, etc.

Aikido and Judo
Tibby replied to Metsubushi's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Seeing as how these are the Tournament Rules, I don’t see how your post above proves anything. Everyone calls UFC nothing more then a sport, and they fight rougher then that. -

Yeah, it was created around the turn of the last century by Kano.
