  1. Awesome, that means more people doing karate. Great stuff!!! All the best with this second dojo!
  2. I assume that you are a kyu grade, if this is the case then as sensei8 pointed out, it's not for you to comment. Just concentrate on your own syllabus and learning of Karate.
  3. If I was a betting man I would not be surprised if those 41 dojos will be looking in your direction moving forward.
  4. Happy birthday Mazzy!
  5. 2 grading are super important around here, 4th Kyu and shodan.... there is a lot of tradition around both. I'll likely be 54 or so when I grade to shodan and intensity demanded is the same no matter the age.... (well maybe if you were an older student), I love the "hard core" part of training, it's more a time commitment thing that I may have a problem with.
  6. OK, I have been thinking about this for a while, in our style the lead up to the Shodan grading is 1 year of "preparation", fitness etc with the final 6 months being 6 days a week or prep. Now this is still a way off for me, but I am unsure whether I can put in that sort of commitment, I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.. Basically, we have been told that without that 6 days a week, you would not last the distance. I'm wondering what sort of lead up training other styles have?
  7. Welcome fellow Karate guy!
  8. Wow! Something smells for sure. Seems very similar to another style that we read about a few months ago, history repeating it'self! Sensei, do your due diligence and see where it leads you.....
  9. I manage a hunting and fishing company/lodge. Before that I worked with horses, before that Military.....
  10. Yeap, Our dojo, you start in a beginners class and if you are ready approx 3 months later you do your first grading, if you pass you receive your white belt and 10th Kyu certificate.
  11. Never bro! If Stormers don't make it, then I vote Chiefs! Haha! Hahahaha, Actually I'm a Highlanders fan since Jeff Wilson days.....
  12. Good luck on Saturday, and put your money on a Crusaders-Hurricanes final.
  13. AAAggghhhhh, I just cancelled Sky 2 months ago and replaced with Netflix, (Well a watered down version of the US one I'm afraid).....
  14. I love this show as well. And the second season hasn't disappointed! Never released over here, but I will find it............
  15. I watched a general grading last weekend, one of the students participating in the grading was a shodan in another (Very closely related) style. He wore a white obi and graded up one kyu to 9th.
  16. Welcome Marlon!
  17. Reminds me of another sport I used to participate in, it had a grading system of D thru to AA, then they added "Master" and the amount of guys that would look for easy or low turn out events to get up to Masters was incredible, they would never be competitive at that level in serious events, but it didn't seem to matter to them, they could call themselves "Master" and that was all the mattered. Human beings are generally a weak species, and big titles stroke egos, facebook, instagram and all those other very successful vehicles that cater to the narcissistic human are the signs that show up this particular human weakness. People with a strong sense of honour, work ethic etc are unfortunately not in the majority..................... Do we train for the knowledge and experience or for more shallow motivations????? I know of a place on the interwebby where genuine students of MA can be found.
  18. It's all about the $$$$$$$$$.................
