The Knights and soldiers also............ Western kobudo............

I think I have posted this pic before...... It has holes to tie it to a tree or post, but in reality, I just sit with it on a knee and bang away, 100 per side each day... http://i.imgur.com/n75bY7U.jpg

I have a portable one that goes with me everywhere. I travel alot. Really only for conditioning. There is a full, posted mounted one at the main dojo which I use to practice technique when i visit.

I'm sure Sensei, the you will achieve your goals, it is the type of person you are. Good luck (Although you won't need it), keep us posted on your progress.

I had to google it, Wikipedia has a fairly comprehensive page on it, I have no idea how accurate tho... Does explain the one hand clapping (enlightenment?) also.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C5%8Dan

Same in New Zealand and most western countries I believe. Weekend warriors, cut lunch cowboys..................... But in MA? Never heard it used, considering most MAs are not professionals that would make most of us Weekend warriors???

I'm with Sensai on this. New club, you have to prove yourself to them and the standards of the new club... Sensai's words are such a truism of the committed Martial artist.: "Remember this, rank means nothing; it's the knowledge and experiences that are paramount. Train hard, and let rank happen whenever they happen, if they happen." Good luck in the new club and keep us posted!

Good stuff!!! The kids will be loving it that you all train together! -
I did the Adkins diet about 10 years ago, worked really well, but isn't very convienient. Nowadays I : try to eat heaps of salads (Dry, or maybe with olive oil), no cheese (it's generally the highest fat content food out there), No other dairy, no sugar..... Basically it's as simple as calories in (eating) and calories out (burning them by exercise and daily life). Cut out the dairy and see what happens..........

Happy birthday!!! Hope you have a great day with family.............

MA celebrities that you've met
Bulltahr replied to IcemanSK's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
I hadn't met any and was feeling pretty left out, that was until a few weeks ago in Moscow and I saw The" Beast from the east" Nikolai Valuev (2 time WBA heavyweight champion) walking around the expo I was attending. I got a few photos with him too, he is absolutely huge!!! I now feel a little more forfilled.......... -
Welcome Highkick. Hope you enjoy the KF forums...

Just curious as to why you prefer DVD over youtube. I also have the same goal of full split by shodan grading. I'm 51 years old so it's a bit of a journey in itself! I use youtube and just stream to the TV . Eazy. Good luck with your training.

Hunting and the outdoors was my big passion, until I made it my job, now I get a buzz out of taking my daughter camping and passing on all those skills that a lifetime in the outdoors gives you. I do very little hunting for myself these days. There's nothing on TV these days , so evenings will find my either playing a FPS on-line game (Planetside 2) or browsing Youtube for Wuxia movies, or good docos..... I used to shoot a lot of sporting clays, but have all but given it up to concentrate on MA. Any other spare time I actually love taking my daughter to her after school activities, take her there, watch and bring her home again. I also have a pretty good vege garden, can't beat digging up your own spuds and cooking them fresh out of the ground! Oh yeah, almost forgot, I'm a traveller and get itchy feet every 3 or 4 months, luckily I travel quite a lot for work. Right now in Iran.......

Are single serving websites like this one dying?
Bulltahr replied to Judodad_karateson's topic in General Chat
I'm with Patrick on this one, coming here means I don't have to wade through a bunch of rubbish and dribble to get to the crux of the matter. Alot of those "all in one" sites never seem to provide an actual answer to the original question. I checked out quite a few "big" sites before I found and settle here. Quality over quantity I guess. At least somewhere like KF forums it's "All meat no filler" type of site. As for Reddit, I don't think they have changed the Page format since the 90's! Osu! -
Hey, life happens mate, I'm off tomorrow travelling for a month for work, but I'll be checking KF when I can.

As far as the Bubishi goes, the 2nd edition has just been released with significant improvements apparently, so if you do buy new, make sure it's the new edition.

Welcome JimW, I hope you enjoy the KF community.

Going for Black Belt

Congratulations!!! Big effort!! -
MMA and crossfit is riding a wave of popularity at the moment. 20 years ago it was Thai kick boxing that was "flavour of the month". MMA is appealing to young people because it has an image of being "tough", the girls, the money (maybe lol..), fitness etc, a very successful marketing campaign by UFC and the others, merchandising etc. Personally, the things that attract me to traditional martial arts are simply not provided by MMA type gyms.

Great feeling to see the little ones getting into it isn't it!
