  1. Hi there Jason!
  2. I don't know about the other fighters but that Israel Adesanya is very good to watch, a tactical fighter, he calmly picks them apart..... I subscribe to Lawrence, does great fight breakdowns.
  3. Perhaps a quick visit to the local police dept if there are any red flags starting to appear. They may not disclose the details but the may be able to advise in other ways. I think absolutely the CI has a responsibility, perhaps not so much the initial background check , but bullying or thuggish behavior would not be tolerated in most "trad" dojos. The MMA type where the testosterone flows freely and the egos are huge maybe no so much....
  4. Watching the semis right now....
  5. Sorry guys, yes, same hotel, tournament at my hotel, my convention next door. Missed a lot of the seniors today, but will get to see 1 -2 hrs worth tomorrow, plenty of International teams here......
  6. So I'm checking into my hotel for a week long trade show I'm doing and there's all these Athletic looking teams from all over the world wandering around in the casino. Turns out everyone is here for the US Open Champs. After getting my booth set up across the road at the convention centre, I go back to my hotel and seek out the TKD. $18 later and I'm in, very interesting I must say, very athletic of course. There were some sort of Katas to music also, wich wasn't my cup of tea, but the Kumite was worth watching. A nice bonus at the end of a long marketing trip.
  7. In a nutshell: Financial pressures can affect integrity.
  8. People have died from one punch, king hit or otherwise, there are no rules when it comes to surviving an attack. Whose to say that while you are lying unconscious on the ground that this aggressor isn't going to stomp you to death? No rules, you do what you have to to neutralize the attack as quickly as you can and be ready for his mates that will come next. Krav Maga comes to mind...........
  9. 1. Get my hips assessed, diagnosed and repaired (if possible). 2. More sparring 3. Continue to support my club in anyway I can
  10. I agree. I don't intentionally target the chest area (or groin on men), but incidental contact happens, and I feel there is usually that understanding. I'm in the same camp as JR, problem is that with the "no headshot" rule it doesn't give many target options for a low kicker/striker like myself. Giving them a dead shoulder gets old real quick for both of us!!!
  11. Flexibility, which I still struggle with. And I am convinced that the first kata I ever learnt was the hardest to learn. (Taikyoku Sona Ichi) Then add in learning all the japanese names of the techniques etc, plenty of smoke coming out of the ears! Repetition, repetition, repetition!!! Was the answer then and still is now.
  12. 1st Kyu, 18 months, invited to grade.
  13. Recognition of effort is a strong trait in the human psyche. Titles provide this. Modesty is a virtue I believe and I see plenty of this in MA. Macho egos would not survive long in our dojo.
  14. Was a great fight, they both deserved a win IMHO.
  15. I loved the K-1 series. You got fights like this one: The commentary is an added bonus. Ray Sefo struggles to keep up with the excited commentator.....
  16. JR, I found this one also which I like very much.
  17. Thanks JR, all interesting ramble.... )
  18. Does anyone have a youtube link to this kata? I did a search and only found a lot of Polish computer game clips. New kata for me, and I would like to study it at home a bit more.
  19. I think it's a tongue in cheek piece. A satire piece if you will.
  20. This is all you need to know about the karate kid.,,,,,,,
  21. Too true hahahaha, now don't get me started on this "music" that the young ones listen to!!!
  22. I believe that he finally split from the JKA. Recently, although I can't find mention on his blog. http://andrebertel.blogspot.co.nz/2017/10/
  23. Sorry to say that it appears to be happening everywhere, a result of the liberalization of society, where kids can run riot and parents reply "they are just expressing themselves....." The PC world gone mad.
