Thank you guys!!!!! It's been a very difficult start to the year for me, so nice to have a bright moment. Thanks again Patrick! -
I wonder what they thought of each other as they had distinctly different personalities. Any comments in any literature?? Would have been a very interesting dynamic.

Welcome Mars bar kid!

Agree, too close to TKD, there's plenty of Olympic "combat" sports already. I think that in this day and age of "all violence is bad", "diversity" etc it would be very difficult to imagine the IOC accepting knockdown karate, especially for the female athletes. Boxing for example, I bet they would love to get rid of it too.

JR has a lot of experiance with all sorts and brands of Gi, I'm sure he will give good advice. As far as the high waist "tape" pants, there is a bit of a knack to doing them up properly, have you used a pair for long or just tried a pair on?

Are You Using Flexibility Machines Or Equipment?
Bulltahr replied to Alan Armstrong's topic in Equipment and Gear
Yes there are good gains with the machine, one good thing is you can sit there in a light stretch and hold it with little effort, watch TV or whatever. I had a log book to measure my progress, got my daughter to measure between the 2 leg thingys each time at my max stretch. I notice gains almost immediately. Not using it at the moment for some unrelated mobility issues. -

My progress was from thigh smash mawashis to just about waist high ones in 3 months. Not sure how much of that was me bending more at the waist as well....... But it definitely works, a younger person would see good progress if they used it daily. I was using mine twice daily and had a good routine of 2 minutes at stretch, then back off for 30 secs, then out to another 2 min stretch, then back off for 30 secs, etc. My stretch would increase each time until I would reach absolute max, after about 4 "reps" which I would hold for 2 minutes then back off SLOWLY. I figured that if I could not hold it for 2 minutes I.E. too painful then it was too much. Discomfort is one thing, pain is another. -

That is my exact machine, you can pull the wheel/shaft off and I pull myself forward and down by grabbing onto the leg thingys and pulling down. -

I have a mechanical leg stretcher, one that you sit in and turn a wheel and control how far your legs open. I had good progress with it, but with my arthritis in my hips I have been careful not to aggravate it by pushing my stretching.... -
Just thinking about it some more, my last good quality gi shrunk 18 cm in trouser length! Both the pants and the jacket were enormous straight out of the box. 2 years later, I am very happy with the jacket fit, but a little disappointed with how much the pants shrunk in length.
-
It will shrink considerably after the first couple of washes. Definitely listen to what customer service is telling you as your inquiry is probably the most common that they have. 3% of 180cm, have you worked that out? 1%= 1.8cm x 3 = 5.4cm of shrinkage. Depending on the cut if you go to 170cm for example, it might end up looking like a tank top on you. A big brand like Tokaido know what they are saying when it comes to sizing..... Good luck either way!

The paradoxical irony of martial arts training
Bulltahr replied to OneKickWonder's topic in Health and Fitness
I think there is a difference between, post training muscle soreness and "pain". That stiffness we experience the day after some big session is not permanent damage. Pain (Not discomfort) during training is telling us we need to stop that particular exercise. Now, if you train several times a week at that high intensity then muscle stiffness will go away as long as you keep it up. Twice a week is not enough, but I'm too old, been there and done it for some years, but when I was a lot younger!!! Now I'm just trying to manage this worn out old body the best I can! -
MMMMMMmmmmmmm thigh smash.............. Downwards as mentioned above is the mosr effective, lower shin not foot.

Mainstream media and fake news frustrates me no end, but in MA I think that most of the charlatans are easier to spot, Well I like to think they are. Ashida Kim, Frank Dux etc......... -
Anyone see it? Bit of a mess, from what I can gather, Mayweather was told it was an "exhibition" match until right up before the fight. Predictable results tho...... One of the top boxers ever boxing with a kick boxer not even in the same weight class................. Not sure what Rizin expected out of the bout.....

Bulltahr replied to JR 137's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
1. Replace repaired with manage, still working on that one 2. For sure I have moved forward with my skill set there, still novice tho... 3. Supporting big time, especially after the passing of our club founder, plenty of politics to navigate............ -
1. Deal with some health/Mobility issues. 2. Not have to give up Karate (see Number 1..................)
