  1. I was talking to my Aikido instructor and I was talking to him about one of the recent topics of this forum..and I asked him if he could mix any 2 or 3 styles, what would they be.. and he told me Wing chun and Aikido.. he said they would be great together cause of the redirection concept in both of them and wing chuns effective short kicks and trapping..
  2. Thanks Shori Kid! thats a lot of info!
  3. sports = competition and competition = sports.. pretty much the same thing, cause there is competition in Aikido, Judo, karate, TKD, Tang soo do, boxing, sambo, the list is huge... so almost all martial arts can be placed into a "sport" kinda way, if you mean sport as in, a point system and all that jazz..
  4. yeah.. he was very person that "invented" the ranking system... and at first it was white and brown from what I hear.. then there was black? but that is what I have heard.. I have his book and he doesnt mention it so I could be wrong..
  5. thats good advice, but I dont go over 8 or 9 reps.. I work out for hypertrophy only.. but dont worry, it isnt like I am going to get slower... I couldnt get too big if I tried...
  6. not exactly gonna work like that in a life or death situation my friend... in a situation like that, your conscience is long gone...
  7. Move in for the throw.. cement or hard ground has plenty of stopping power.. or a kick in the knee cap, although that may get someone in trouble in court if they broke it?? but then again it was only one strike? hmm..
  8. they do.. and I have that book, it is a excellent one... but the "olympic" throws are pretty much the same as Kodokan or Kosen.. a Seoinage will always be a Seoinage, you cant really learn it any different, but I have heard and noticed that in lot of "Olympic" Judo schools they variate some throws by grabbing the back of the belt a lot more.. but thats what I heard though??..
  9. jamming the kidney may not work always, because of my most favorite technique of Kodokan, the Osoto Gari.. also, if your hand is on my kidney I can still use my legs to sweep.. or just turn a little on the spot and perform the Uchi mata.. people have tried it on me in tournaments and I did the ouchi gari everytime.. well expept backwards.. its more like a reverse ouchi gari that is also a sacrifice throw.. or just lower my hips, one of the first things you would learn on counter throwing in Randori..
  10. No no no , that the wrong thing to do , you should never throw the first punch. Because you leave yourself open. thats is one way to get torn to shreds, never hit first?? not everyone is going to have a really quick reaction time to evade or block the attack.. I think that hitting first is always an option when needed..
  11. Here is mine: Monday- Chest Bench and Dumbells, more dumbell though.. Tuesday- Bis Barbell curl, dumbell curl, preacher curl, cable curl Wed- abs, legs crunch, crunch machine, leg press and cav raise Thursday - Tris Skull crusher, tricep pulldown.. dumbell skull crushers Friday - Back deadlift, barbell row, dumbell row Off sat and sunday.. it has worked for years for me, I swith it up every couple of months though.. Hope this helps..
  12. why do you not want TKD in the Olympics then??
  13. that depends, there is Kosen Judo where, they focus on a lot of submissions..
  14. Also, my instructor told me today that in Tomiki-Ryu, all the close range attacks are Judo and the more distant moves are Aikido..
  15. ask the instructor on which days he does the Randori free practice of Judo.. I think you would really like that..
  16. Yep, your right.. I just started Tomiki-Ryu Aikido and we was talking about that a couple of days ago actually..
  17. yep yep yep I agree, You must become more than just a man in the mind of your opponent. -Henri Ducard- that is a quote from batman begins.. and I agree with it fully! but I wouldnt go around telling everybody that I am strong fast and and beat everybody up though..
  18. I dissagree. You should use the technique as quickly and fluently without pulling back. If size and strength become an issue, I think you're not good enough at the technique. I agree, but that one guy who is flailing around throwing haymakers, it will become difficult to perform the wrist lock even with no strength on the opponents side.. and if the guy is resisting wouldn't you go with the force, I mean that is Aikido's general idea?
  19. I have a Kodokan shirt and wear it sometimes.. but nobody really knows what that word means most of the time..
  20. oh I almost forgot.. your subject on this post says Meditation for combat effectiveness.. a form of self-hypnosis may help better than meditation.. I just practice and have faith in my skill and it has worked for me..
  21. have faith in your skill and believe that you can and will win.. and i mean it.. it has helped me.. I have faith in my skill, so much that I honestly see myself winning before the match starts.. and I do win.. and it comes as no surprise.. cutting your self down is actually slowing your advancement in Sparing.. so stop!!
  22. 10 am- Judo Noon- Triceps- skull cruchers 90x10- 3 sets tricep pushdowns 150x10 145x10 130x10 tricep dips
  23. I have heard that a Pankration fighter from a long long time ago used to break his opponents fingers in the beginning of the match, and then finish them off, and he was undefeated because of that.
  24. No offense but, punching a bag a thousand times is good and kicking is as well, even one step sparring is okay.. but, nobody will really know unless you actually fight, not punch a bag, actually spar with someone who is really going to resist and fight back... and if you mean sport, like point sparing where there is little contact than yes I agree some... but competition in general, is the best way to find out what works and what doesnt.. sport or not..
  25. or two.. but seriously a tough one, Krav Maga goes over it a lot I think??
