NO to low kicks! Yes to high kicks!
Throwdown0850 replied to 50inches's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
This is a good point. Even those who are trained in kicking can get kicked in sparring, and the expect to get kicked. However, I am of the opinion that lower line kicks will have a higher percentage of success than high kicks will. Agreed.. -
Thank You My dad is like that too, except he used to say if someone was to ever pick a fight with me, I better not run, either fight or take it. and It kind of made me who I was as a teen all the way till I was 21 when I realized that it was wrong, it was just how I was raised. He did martial arts as a kid and became one big ego. nowadays he tells me to never pick fights or fight in general?? I guess he has grown up too?

I am sorry, I didnt answer your question DWX, I told my mom and my cousin ashley to get in the car and lock the doors, I walked away from the car just in case they starting firing and my family get caught in the crossfire. it worked, they followed me right where I wanted them. I told them I drove a seperate car and I would give them everything. but I lied to get them so they would get away from my family. right as I got to "my car" I turned and asked them how we were going to handle it. they walked right in front of the security booth and the security guards saw them, they were too focused on getting my money out of "my car" that they forgot about the security booth.. and as soon as the security guards came out, they ran off.

The best way to learn something is to do it.. I never said anything about re-creating a "real situation. nothing is better than the real thing.. I was a kid in my teens. I fought A LOT... I was stupid and have grown up. but I dont completely regret it cause sometimes to get the butterflies out of your stomach, you just have to do it.. the training can mean nothing if you cant react. thats why criminals like murderers can kill without a second thought about it.. or see a gangmember try to fight 5 guys at once.. I am not saying to be a criminal by no means. I am just they dont fear cops or even fear being shot or killed, they dont care.. hope this helps?

The power of intimidation
Throwdown0850 replied to MizuRyu's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
< this smiley face is pretty intimidating. I am going to do that the next time I get picked on.. j/k.. serious moment, I am only 5'9" and I was picked on all through school. I weighed 116 and was 5'3" my sophmore year.. Like I said I am only 5'9" now. I wanted to be huge and was obsessed with body building for like 5 years, and after that I thought I was tough as nails and got put in my place.. and I deserved it. I only weigh 170 but my friends say I am probably the most intimidating one in the group.. I am always usually quiet and calm. they said that is what usually bothers them the most..? -
always keep your distance.. a little longer the legs length of the attacker..

Did you have a throwdown over a Big Mac?Just kidding... no.. the guy actually was just fired and wanted his paycheck and they wouldnt give it to him. and he turned around with no hesitation and to me to leave or get my head handed to me.. but I wanted my cinna-melt! I wasnt leaving without it. I only go there for the Cinna-melts.. -
what good is it going to do if you cant control your fear and react instead of freeze because the adrenaline rush.. I disagree.. someone can train for this.. I have and it works.. it has actually saved my life once.. you havent felt an adrenaline rush untill a gun is put in your face.. I was almost robbed on christmas eve 2 years ago.

I wish I could show you some places to see these kids teaching class.. trust me, you'd be outraged. and to get your pretty little yellow belt you had to break a plastic re-breakable board. I almost threw up.. and I noticed that you do Hapkido. are you allowed to throw and or grapple when sparring or tournaments? I have been looking at a school nearby.. so I was interested.

Self taught martial arts
Throwdown0850 replied to shequan's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
i say go for it kid! nowadays even if you go to real instructor, its most likely a mc. dojo. but not all of them. I recommend a book called Kodokan Judo by Kano himself. its well written and really elaborates on the techniques. my instructor gave it to me on my first day I was there and it helped. and find a training partner. -
Just because someone still has some fears doesn't necessarily make it the fault of the style they are studying. It is very difficult to address the fear factor when you don't ever practice while you are afraid. There aren't a lot of styles that offer this kind of environment. They weren't trained right.. period. that is what is wrong with martial arts today, you can go to class, leave thinking how well you did giving you a false sense of security. get your butt kicked and wonder why it didnt work.. why? because its 85 dollars a month and you have 12 year olds teaching class.. I am not trying to be rude bushido but, this is exactly what martial art was suppose to do.. PREPARE somone.

NO to low kicks! Yes to high kicks!
Throwdown0850 replied to 50inches's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
lets pretend the enemy is an average joe with a bad attitude.. who is not trained.. he is probably not going to expect any kick, low or high.. personally I would use a kick to the knee, even though I dont have a background in karate of TKD.. -
