  1. my Judo instuctor wont even train anybody under 16? how many people are in your class? can and will anybody switch partners with you? sorry mate..
  2. yeah, that was one of the reasons why I liked Matt Hughes? is cause he is not like a "thug"
  3. We have one of these: http://www.imptec.co.uk/html/strike-measurement-products.html Cool. I should look into some of that stuff. I think that the students would have fun with them. What would be cool to do is take one of those, and have you white belts test on them when they first start. Then, as they improve in rank, test them again, and record it each time. Then show them the difference from when they began and when they hit black belt. that is exactly what my Kenpo instructor is doing.. he said that most white belts under 180 lbs. will hit around a 500 or 600..
  4. I saw a sparring match today where one of the guys did Wing Chun Kun Fu and he mopped the floor with this guy... every time the guy tried to get close, the WC guy stopped him by kicking his knee and letting out like 10 fast punches.. later after the fight, I told him that he kicks to the knees could be dangerous when sparring.. he agreed.. his punches were like lightning!!
  5. see. all the throws are the come from the same "place" ..
  6. yep, I have done Kodokan for 6 years now and it has saved me in lots of situations.. very good self-defense, even the "sport" judo could be used in self defense, besides, its pretty much the same. but I have heard Goju Ryu can get pretty rough style as well, I think they have a lot of conditioning in it?
  7. psi? 9300 is probably your score.. cause if you could do that you could probably punch a crater in the earth..
  8. What does the fact that he might not be wearing a gi or obi have anything to do with how much you charge him? The testing fees I understand. Some schools include testing fees in their tuition rates and thus do not charge students when they test. In that case charge that student tuition minus the amount increased to include testing because they won't be testing. well if the student wants to come in and learn all the techniques and doesnt want to wear a belt, then he has no "ranking"... I think I would charge him the regular fee cause everybody is learning the same stuff, gi or no gi... belt or no belt...
  9. I know it is weird?? maybe its the body finally giving up?..
  10. I went ahead and worked out this morning.. Biceps- warm up 35 lb. curl barbell curl- 100x10 90x8 85x8 Dumbell curl - 45x8 40x8 40x8 shrugs- 300x8
  11. I did take some notes, during our little breaks. My DT partner was there as well, so hopefully between the 2 of us, we are able to recall most of the information. sounds cool , was it taught by a Krav Maga instructor?
  12. lets say if you did allow him to workout.. how much would you charget him? since he is not wearing a gi, not belt, no testing.. what would you do?
  13. I could be wrong but I dont know if there is actually a list of "shotokan" throws.. but if your looking to learn more on them, then try Jujutsu or judo.. besides if there is "shotokan" throws, they probably derived from Jujutsu.. pretty much all throws are the same... hope this helps.
  14. He let me bring it home, and I hit a 815 with a reverse Punch..
  15. So I was watching the Black Belt class today and my Kenpo instructor had PSI meter thing hooked up to a heavy bag and they were all punching it and kicking it.. so when the class was done he noticed that a watched the whole class and he let me do it.. I punched it and it read out 796?? and he looked rather surprised, I didnt say anything cause I dont know how much 796 PSI is? is that a lot? I did a reverse punch.. I didnt kick it.. but I was wondering if you guys have ever done this and how to read it.. like is 796 PSI strong or weak?
  16. I agree, someone who can effectively teach it..
  17. I dont think any body can really be a "master", I just think that someone can be really really really good, thats all... because I always understood a "master" as someone who is unbeatable or nearly unbeatable.. with the UFC stuff going these days, it looks like those guys could beat any "master"..
  18. I can hold me on out there.. and I try to avoid life or death situations... I react on instinct, not what my conscience "tells" me to do..
  19. Wow! What an animal! I don't think I would want you tossing me around! thanks!! but i am only 5'9" though...
  20. no offense ying yang, but how do you know that any of your skills work? a punching bag isnt going to do it... do you spar? just a question.. Sport competition is a way of validating all the skill and training that someone would have.. Olympics or not.. and just because someone is in a marial art doesnt mean they have to kill them? look at Muai Thai? its a great Martial Art and is a Major "sport" in thailand..
  21. not exactly gonna work like that in a life or death situation my friend... in a situation like that, your conscience is long gone... Well that is your choice , i wouldn't forget my conscience and i would not lie. with a heart rate that high in a life or death situation my friend, instinct is all thats left.. also, whenever somebody asks me that they heard that I did Martial Arts, I tell them that I dont know anything..
  22. its real.. there is 2 styles. Tomiki Aikido, Tomiki Ryu Aikido.. you can go to to this for more Info- http://www.tomiki.org/
