  1. Exactly. I think we've beat this one to death.
  2. This is a great technique in close and when done properly would end something quickly. The tie in to the body gives it devastating power.
  3. The trick is that it is a subtraction problem. 30 paid out. 10 x 3 -3 refunded now its 9x3 -2 stolen 25 paid in register.
  4. Way to go Ken. Just in time for the holiday season! With the increased exercise I'm sure you with do just fine. Keep up the good work.
  5. G95- Take another look. 25 in the register plus 3 given as refund plus two taken by the bellhop equals 30. 25+2+3=30 BTW 8.33 X 3 = 24.99
  6. I've heard good things about them. I use an Asics wrestling shoe which has really held up to the abuse.
  7. Hmmm, it's harder to keep at "fighting" weight but the trade off is that I now eat better than I ever did. With all the potential stress of a career, family, mortgage, etc., the training has become more intense because it really is stress management. I'm fortunate because the advanced training starts at 8:00, which is the same time the kids go to bed. My stamina has increased because I take better care of myself. I made a decision a few years ago to get back into shape because I saw too many people in their forties and early fifties keeling over. I want to be able to spend all this money I've put into my retirement account . I'm now one week into 37 and feeling fine. It's just hard to watch that 80s show on VH1 and then get the sudden realization that 20 years have just flown by. Of course it beats the alternative.
  8. The best point made is that incorrect technique perfected is a perfectly incorrect technique. I've never seen anyone spar in a horse stance chambering their punches...drills and stances have other value, like push-ups. I do a lot of push-ups but I would never use them as a self defense technique.
  9. Higher ranks leaving are never a good sign. I would find out why. Also find out how serious your school is when it comes to enforcing the contracts. Look at their end of the contract as well. Is there something that they are not living up to? Contracts work both ways (except in the case of a McDojo). Good luck, keep us posted.
  10. Run, karatekid1975, run. Don't look back....good luck with the "real" school.
  11. Check out the website https://www.jumptheshark.com. It gives a rundown of TV shows past and present of when they reached their peak and like Fonzie in Happy Days "Jumped the Shark" and went down hill fast. When did your favorite show "Jump the Shark"? My offering is the Brady Bunch when they had the annoying Cousin Oliver move in. That was the beginning of the end.
  12. I thought I was having a twilight zone moment (week).
  13. Turn, Turn, Turn by the Byrds. Good tune!
  14. I'll join seeing I'm 36. I was feeling left out. Remember, getting older beats the alternative! Of course thirty-somethings are far from old.
  15. Total paid out by men 30 refunded to men -3 net paid out by men 27 , 27/3= 9 per man bell hop money -2 net to hotel 25 So it is 30-3=27-2=25 or The billed amount is 25 plus the 2 for the bell hop =27. This is the amount the guys paid out. 9x3=27, now add the 3 refunded to the guys, 3+27=30. In your post you said the bell hop kept 2 and then you added it to the 27 which was the result of 30-3. You should subtract the 2 because you started the problem from 30. Get it?
  16. I used to play a lot of golf and a popular product at the time was copper bracelets to combat the imflammation of wrists and other joints. I bought one and thought that it helped me with my wrist. Well, I pulled it out of the mothballs the other day and put it back on because my shoulder joint has been stiff lately. Not knowing what to expect, I wore it for a few days and the stiffness disapeared (I had it for about 2 weeks). Has anyone else had this experience? It could be coincidence or just the power of suggestion, but it seems to work for me. After a quick search on the internet, I saw some research that attests to the anti-inflam qualities of copper, these studies mainly coming from Europe. Maybe it's all in my head or there may be something to it. What do you think?
  17. Check out this thread. It may be of some help. The last post has two links that give good descriptions of the 5 animals. http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=4190
  18. The term "Karate" is overused as a marketing tool to the general public to describe almost any martial art. IMO the term is used because of its universal connotation and is probably more understood than the term "Martial Arts".
  19. Kung Fu Master or a Defender Ship!
  20. Killer Miller, welcome to the forums. I look forward to your participation. Good intro.
  21. Welcome Neil.
  22. Bidding is up to $1.75. Where do you find this stuff?
  23. Listen to your Mom, listen to your Dad, and listen to KickChick. Better safe than sorry because when driving an error in judgement may not always get you a second chance. Also, a clean record is not only safer but also a lot cheaper in the long run. Good Luck.
