  1. The problem with vegan pizza (except Hiedi's version) is the vegan cheese is yucky. She makes her own (cheese), and I just do without most of the time (she's the experienced vegan .... I'm the rookie hehehehe. I ask her for advice, tips, ect) But yea, I agree Patrick. You just have to think of it differently. I'm game to try it also. It actually sounds really good.
  2. Thanks Heidi! That sounds yummy. I have to try that.
  3. My TSD dojang was like that (sparring). It was basically a free-for-all, like you said. That was fun. We do grapple at my dojang now, but not as much as I like. We do point sparring for tournies, but in class, it's basically continuous point sparring, as Heidi put it.
  4. Mine is from the movie. Not unusual but I was looking for something when I got into karate 6 years ago and I had just watched karate kid for the millionth time LOL (my nickname used to be DizzyDrummer).
  5. I was soooooo bummed when I heard that. Specially after hearing my best friend's dog dying last weekend, too. I was camping so I came home to all this bad news. My camping trip sucked, too (got the rain and the wind from the hurricane or tropical storm that was left all weekend). Sucky weekend R.I.P Steve and Sake (the dog, not the drink)
  6. I ate pizza a lot when I was younger, but I worked at this pizza/sub place and I got sick of it. Which is a good thing now that I'm vegan (haven't found a decent vegan pizza yet). But when I did like pizza, I usually had x-cheese, and mushrooms. Or just cheese. Or cheese, peppers, and mushrooms.
  7. Sounds similar to how my other half proposed to me (we both train in MA, also). It wasn't after class, but we did a little work on our forms, and decided to cook dinner (another one of our passions is cooking great meals). And he just grabbed me and asked right in the middle of the kitchen. I didn't think he was serious at first, but he was. And the rest is history as they say hehehehe Congrads to you both
  8. I competed a lot with Taegeuk 7. But I have done Taegeuk 3 and 4 in the past, and Pyung ahn ee dan (in TSD). But I don't have a fav in ITF TKD yet. I do like Chun Moo so far, though.
  9. Cool! I haven't played in months, but it was a lot of fun. My ears are still ringing (I was hitting really hard and loud LOL).
  10. I will, Jiffy. The MA bug did bite me again, just like my bug for drums (I played for two hours just now. I'm sweaty and pooped. Time for a shower and bed time). I'll keep ya posted. Night all.
  11. We have the same here in NY. Theres a big NY tourny that goes on that I would like to go to. I forget who puts it on, though. But I can't remember if it's a open tourny or just TKD (all TKD styels). I got to check into that.
  12. hehehe she is for me, anyways (when I get my head out of my butt LOL). Yes, I know. I did read your post over and over. Thanks And thanks to everyone else for your support. KF people are the best I'll keep you guys updated.
  13. I compete once or twice a year. I just do the local/association stuff. Maybe I'm too lazy to seek something bigger ... who knows. But I would like to someday do an open tourny and get grand champ in forms and breaking. That's just a dream right now, though.
  14. Update all. It's good news. I thought alot about what you all said here, and I have talked to Heidi many times when I have MA "troubles." There's some stuff she said that didn't sink in till later. But finally it has ... after a month ... Sorry Heidi, that it took so long. Anyways, the good news is that I am going back to the ITF school two days a week to get my "feet wet" again in MA. And I will be doing jujitsu once they are settled into the new dojang. I'm going to take it easy at first, learn my new forms, and see what happens. Wish me luck
  15. I'm from New York, USA. Originally from New Joisey ... I mean New Jersey USA (NJ joke).
  16. I like that, Heidi Good post.
  17. I was curious, were the basics you started class with always the same, or were they different each time? I will compare with you if you give me an idea. No, my instructor would change it up, so it wouldn't get boring. Sometimes he would do just basic low block, high block, inside block, outside block, ect. Then the basic kicks: front, round, side and back kick. The next night, he would throw in combos of those down the floor. Usually later in the week, he would do the spinning and jumping versions of the kicks (less people, more room). Some nights we did basic kicks/punches on the bag. Then did flying kicks at the bag or pads held in the air (fun ). Or we'd do target work with the above. So he mixed it up pretty good.
  18. When I did TSD, our classes started with basics (ALWAYS). My instrutor was very strict about drilling basics (and picky about technique). Then we went into forms and/or one steps. Then self defense and/or sparring. It depended on the night, the amount in class, and the room. Sometimes we had a full house, and there was no room for forms. So we'd do one steps, and take turns sparring or self defense drills. In small classes, we do basics, forms, one steps, and ended with either sparring or self defense. I would always go to the smaller classes usually later in the week, so I'd get the whole curriculum (almost) in one night
  19. Name: Laurie Titles: I didn't compete that much, but got a few metals. Got one 2nd place for breaking. Several 3rd places for forms, and one 2nd place for forms (I'm a forms geek hehehehe). Height: 5'8 Weight: 150 Current Age: 31 Styles: TSD (5th gup), TKD (1st gup), some Judo, Jujitsu (white belt). Favorite Technique: Anything that works (words from my Jujitsu instructor "Use what works effectively." )
  20. My TSD dojang did it as a hammer fist. But it varies from dojang to dojang. I've seen it done both ways at tournies.
  21. I'm kind of the same. I just quit doing MA (for now). I do snowboarding, but not for a career. Anyways, my first art is Tang Soo Do. Everytime I go back to my old dojang (when I visit my home town), I remember everything, and I haven't done TSD in 4 or so years (I've been in TKD and various arts since then). So it's possible.
  22. Hey, long time no chat. How are you? Anyways, I found the area yellow pages here: http://www.yellowpagecity.com/sys/pageserver.dll?b=5266&p=0&s=0&f=hh990&gp=&go=karate I don't know what style you are interested in, but a few have websites for you to check out. For the others, you may have to call or stop in to check them out. http://www.aikidocenters.com/ http://www.amorosikarate.com/ http://www.hillsboroughblackbeltacademy.com/ http://www.grandmasterchostaekwondo.com/ http://www.kokorokai.com/ http://www.hwangkarate.com/history.htm http://www.smma.net/ http://www.sundokwan.com/ I don't know how close these places are to you, but it's a start. Hope this helps.
  23. Well, that's not an option. I'm only a 1st gup. So that would be kinda silly. But I still train a bit on my own and with a friend when I can, so I basically have a home dojang, kind of.
  24. There is now a rumor of my jujitsu instructor having a class in a new school that his wife might get. I would definitely stay with jujitsu if that happens. But it's just in planning stages right now. So, it all depends on if and when she gets it.
