  1. kendo, iaido, kobudo, kali, fencing, gurkha knife fighting, kenjitsu, and some chinese styles train only with weapons
  2. i would disagree with the brutality aspect i think that anchient times where huch more brutal.
  3. hmmmm... a fight between jimmy woo and bruce lee?
  4. yea killing someone would be a real bad thing, i dont think i could live with myself if i killed someone self defence or not.
  5. good post, the proof of this was when Royce Gracie took on Dan Severn.
  6. why not just step in and throw an elbow? those wild punchs wont do much if you have your gaurd up.
  7. at 17 im the youngest guy in nearly every one of my classes, being the youngest im also usually the smallest and i have found that technique really comes into play when you are dealing with a big guy. another thought- start pumping iron like crazy and get just as strong as the big guy.
  8. the jump spining hook kick seem practicle compaired to that. oh and jules have you ever done any ring fights?
  9. i consider zen a very good path to follow for a martial artest. being a theravada buddist i get along with nearly all zen teachings, zen meditation is espesially useful in the hour or so before a match.
  10. chi is just a natural force on your body and you can use it to help your martial arts but the whole flying, shooting fire balls ect is just plain fake, however there are some buddist monks in tibet and thailand who can do some pretty cool stuff with chi like control body temp. but chi will never be the decideing factor in a full contact fight or a marathon.
  11. im not afraid to die im afraid to die in a bad way like cancer or dementra or something of that nature, i love life and i dont want to give it up but if i where to go out in the ring i would be happy i went doing something i love.
  12. i would try for one last big fight then retire and start coaching.
  13. when im sparring i always stay relaxed it gives you a faster reaction time and faster techniques not to mention the extra power
  14. another question what are your takes on this chart of what matters in a fight? some people say i place way to much on technique. technique 50% strenth 25% how bad you want it 25%
  15. i just saw a pride fight where a capoeira guy took on some mma guys and did pretty good. he won a few matchs.
  16. leg sweeps work but unless you train them alot (i dont) then they are useless
  17. LOL it was in a movie for gosh sakes it fake! i find it so amuseing when people see movies and think there real.
  18. just a question have any of you ever had conflicts with MA and religion?
  19. he may be a good point sparring and form guy but teaching at age 12 camon. and there is no art called tai kwon do its tea kwon do! i really dont think that he could handle himself in the ring or on the street.
  20. leg sweeps are the most under rated thing in all the martial arts but i dont think this would be the time to use them.
  21. good post. its funny i look at the world in a diffrent way now, its like when before i started martial arts all i had was wrestling to keep me motivated and the rest of the year was really lame, but when i took up the martial arts and started to train as hard as i possible it was like a weight being lifted off my shoulders. Before my training i had too many goals to shoot for (school, friends, money) but now im set on one goal and it feels great.
  22. if they have a little bit of force behind them they may just walk threw your kicks
  23. thx alot for the tips sevenstar do make a liveing doing your fights? and what kind of fights are they (boxing, kickboxing, nhb) ect
  24. hmmm never tryed an elbow to the body before.
  25. no one is born to be a great puncher some just have better starting punches than others. if there was a small guy and a big guy the big guy would hit harder train up the little guy and he would hit harder.
