  1. At our School, those under the age of 10 have the option of taking some simpler 4 or 8 step Patterns, along with 2 junior belts before they go for Yellow Belt and the first proper pattern. However, this is Tae Kwon Do, not Karate. [ This Message was edited by: Jack on 2002-01-16 10:57 ]
  2. and here's another: "Live like its heaven on Earth"
  3. Welcome!
  4. I'm getting kind of worried here.. It all started on New Years Eve when I helped myself to some Pringles, and for the first time in my life, I didn't find them gorgeously tasty or addictive. I was utterly distraught! I'd normally find Pringles divine and I wouldn't be able to stop myself from going back for more. And now, I'm finding myself less and less attracted to unhealthy foods. I think because I care so much about my health, my subconscious has tricked me into not liking many unhealthy foods now. When I'm not thinking, I always seem to head for the lean meat and vegetables than a packet of crisps. Think this is part of growing up, or just my subconscious tricking me?
  5. rofl Sai, that's gotta be embarrasing for them Heh, I've not had any experiences like that thankfully, but, if I did... I'd probably end up going red and apolise an awful lot :/
  6. I didn't say it lacked power, only that as a beginner it must be trained more to be able to get the same sort of power
  7. Welcome Slider to this here forum Hope you have a great time here
  8. Hehe Sai, I only did it once because the class was being incredibly annoying/noisy and wouldn't shut up, and it was the only way I could relax myself. And yes, it became very quiet... I then opened my eyes and smiled, and thanked them.
  9. I agree with you Piastre, it is somewhat difficult/impossible for the mind to perceive a world without them, since then there would be no viewpoint to view the world from. I also agree with what you said - religion does partially seem to be originating from man's fear of death, as a way of comfort in death. However, I may fear death but I am not religious. I am however far more concerned about an immediate family member or my loved one dying than than about my own demise. I also wouldn't fear death if it was for a reason, saving someone or something precious to me. I know this is not entirely rated, but a little quote I remember from somewhere... "If a village asked you to climb a dangerous mountain to fetch them a rose, knowing you would die in the process, would you?" "If a village asked you to climb a dangerous mountain to fetch a rose which symbolised peace, gave hope to and had a profound meaning to all members of the village, knowing you would die, would you?"
  10. I sometimes kick with my leading leg, and there are several advantages and disadvantages to this: Advantage - If closer in with an opponent you can quickly kick off the leading leg. It's also faster, and when mixed with back leg kicks can become unpredictable and hard to block/counter. Also good if an opponents keeps charging at you. Disadvantage - Harder to train to make as powerful as back leg kicks. They can be best used as a sort of deterrent or jab, really. Overall it should be a no-brainer to kick off leading leg as well as back leg
  11. As in, practicing moves whilst running backwards, or practicing moves in reverse order?
  12. Yep, my tennis and football skills have been improved also
  13. Interesting discussion going on here. TKD, I tink plenty of people with no religion do not fear death. Personally, I'm atheist (no religion) true I fear death, but only because I want to have things to do, places to go etc. etc. Like Angus, I would swap my life for a loved one's if such a situation with a dilemna like that arrived. To me, there is no afterlife. You live your life, and then you're gone. So don't waste your life, live it to its maximun potential. I won't try and find comfort in a religious belief for an afterlife because then it may allow me to slack up and not be so active in my life, and make me stop persuing my dreams believing there is a better place after life. This is just my opinion on the afterlife, I am in no way meaning to be offencive or thrust my views on anyone else here
  14. OMG, I did it AGAIN! Arg, and I was sure it wouldn't. I'm so sorry, you know I ment Lori

  17. Yes, but we all love kung fu movies with their voiceovers Bruce Lee had a lot of personal input to the script however, I havn't read the Tao of Jeet Kune Do or anything, but perhaps he was trying to put another of his own teachings into a movie? It wouldn't be the first time.
  18. I was rewatching the untimable classic Enter The Dragon again yesterday, and towards the beginning Bruce Lee is telling a boy to kick him. Along with the famous quote "Don't think, feel" he also says "I said emotional content, not anger". I thought about this for a while, and I was unsure as to the meaning of this. Maybe thats what I did wrong, by thinking about it, but I was just wondering what do you guys suspect he means through emotional content, and feeling not thinking?
  19. Interesting, briusmc. Infact it is indeed possible I'd believe that going for a brisk walk in some nice surroundings could invigorate(sp?) the mind and body for some training As cardio exercise goes SubmissionFighter, Rowing, Biking, Horseriding punches, anything like that will be great cardio for you
  20. This is an interesting argument, but everyone has the right to voice their belief. Please don't tell people to shut up.
  21. I just idled in there for the last hour, but no-one came on. I'll try and be in there more often, it would be great to talk to some of you in real time
  22. I agree Imagine, if you are confronted on the street and it turns into a fight, you will not have to time to consciously think out your actions. If you try to, you will not be able to keep up and adapt to the situation and you'll be easily defeated. However, if you feel then you can quickly adapt and react instinctively. However, one who does the martial arts has already done the thinking by training, he/she has learnt the moves, and althought at first they seemed difficult, they do become second nature. So as you "feel" this street situation, you instinctively used what you have previously used. Would you all agree?
  23. Welcome to the boards little moo! I hope you have a great time here and have a chance to both learn and share information and knowledge
  24. I'm serious and dedicated now, its just I wasn't really aware of the martial arts until I saw it in films and videogames. Of course, I am far more determined about the martial arts now
