the choice is all yours, if you really enjoy them equally then its an even harder choice. Think about what you have enjoyed the most with your training and what your future goals are then pick the school that you think meets the answers to those questions. LOOK HARD

Good Luck and stick with it!

Hello I'm posting this to see if any of you have ever trained in the Sagawa Kara-Fu system. If so let me know and let me know what you think of it. Thank You

The military, jujitsu, front kick and wet paper bags...

Thats interesting about Guro Inosanto. I have never met him but only hear great things. I dont see the problem with straping on the white belt and just shuting up and learning. What you already know you already know you can only learn more -
I agree leave the Ninja boots at home, and be sure not to take your throwing stars hahaha Just Kidding GOOD LUCK

I cant say how he would have done in the UFC, but if he was around now I know he would be doing some serious training on grappling. Bruce Lee was so ahead of his time, but so were the Gracies especially on the ground game. Either way we will neve know but I believe he would have been the first to start modifying training methods after UFC came out

You know thaiboxerken is right. When your older kata is not your only option left. I understand that at some point you your training may not be as intense but you can still train. I have seen a few of the traditional artists try to down talk some of the arts without kata. Somepeople choose to do them and other choose not to. I use to train with them and now I choose not to, I dont down talk them but I do know that you need more than only kata.
-
Well the price is cheap, but you know sometimes you get what you pay for. I wont down talk kata, but I will say that you need more than just kata to learn self defense. Sparring plays a major roll in learning practical self defense and should not be reserved only for black belts. By the time someone reaches black belt they should have been sparring for years. Anyways good luck but You might want to venture out to check some other schools out.

Interesting I dont study tkd but I just stoped in to see what I could learn today. Dont worry about the belt colors, worry about the knowledge within thos colors GOOD LUCK

Krav Maga, opinions and Spiritual or just self defense?
Shane replied to glow's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
If your looking to learn self defense I would say go for it. KM goes straight to the point and its techniques are combat proven. -
Do you practice combative martial arts?
Shane replied to delta1's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I think a lot of people out their think they are really training in a combative martial art even if they are not. A lot of people are mis-led about how realistic their art really is. Its a shame but I know this is true I have met a few of these people. -
Help with Jeet Kune Do
Shane replied to Chris Mckechnie's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
yes apply JKD to your tkd, when you make the choice to move on to another school find one that includes the grappling arts as well as the stand up and apply the JKD to that also. Good Luck Remember be open minded and well rounded, think outside of the box -
Wow there are a few great ones out there so here is a few of my favorite. From the mount (straight up unloading on them) Figure 4 choke (any choke for that matter) Groin shot followed by knees to the head Just a few
-
You bet they work, I look at the elbow as being our second largest knuckle if you know what I mean and they are great tools at close range and on the ground.
-
I've never studied either one but I have sparred a few tkd guys and most of their techniques were pretty fancy but did not effect me to much, alot of the high kicks they were using were more of an annoyance than anything and pretty easy to defend against. My sister trained tkd for over 3 years and she did not learn really any realistic self defense, but her school was all about the sport of tkd and they were awsome at the sport part of it. After reading these posts its almost like tkd would be the Judo and tsd would be the Jujitsu as far as looking for sport or straight self defense. Either I'm off topic but this a good post!!!!!

If your not planning to fight in the ring I dont see any reason why you would be going all out with your head shots. Sparring with head shots is realistic and a must for the one hitting and the one being hit, but going all out is when you get into this dangerous area. Head gear is very important and can help reduce the risk of injury, but make sure your sparring sessions will be in a controled environment. All gyms are different but safety should be #1. I dont know how long you have been training in your current style but if you have not been there long you might want to wait before training in boxing. If you have been training with your current style for some time now and have a good foundation then I say go for it.
