Help me prove someone wrong
Shane replied to scottnshelly's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Sometimes it is best to prove someone wrong with a fight to the death match. It could be held at your work as long as upper managment agrees and ofcourse for insurance purposes we would need some type of waiver. Just Kidding You know I'm no expert on JKD, but thaiboxerken sounds like he knows what he's talking on this. I wouldnt even worry to much about it. People can talk all they want, and tell me the trained this and that, of course I dont pay much to it, Iam all about getting on the mat and training, thats were you learn whos just talking and whos for real. -
I only know what I have read about it on the internet, so it would be interesting if someone out there could give us some more detailed info on it. THANKS

I think that all arts need to stay up to date with what works for self defense situations(S.D. is todays combat that were training for) and to do this they do not need to take away from a style, only add to it. If we were to take away the mixed martial artists, then who the the traditional artists make fun of on this forum. And if we were to take away the traditional artists who the the mixed artists make fun of while training. Okay so the 2nd statment was a joke, anyways good post and I do believe that the martial arts should change with the time but like I said before that doese not mean taking away only adding to. Just My Opinion

I would not even try learning the basics by a book or video. When starting off you need an instructor to help show you the techniques and make the proper corrections. Videos and Books can be of use, but only after you have been under instruction for some time. So if I was you I would stay motivated to learn and train and start searching very hard for a school to train at. Trying to learn from books and videos without first being very well trained will just build bad habits. I'm sure alot of people would agree that when starting off we think we have it down and the next thing you know your instructor is there making corrections. Then you think to yourself WOW I did not even have a clue I was doing that wrong. This is why it is very important to have a good instructor to help show you how to properly exucute the moves.

Drunken Boxing, any advice?
Shane replied to ddpc's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Well it looks like you train in Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu, I would continue with those, especially since you dont know of any schools to teach this art. I mean if you really want to do it thats great but I would continue training in a more realistic art and look at your drunken style as more of a hobby. And after reading this post some say you can make it effective when you perfect it so down the road your hobby might turn out to be good for self defense, but you cant really go wrong with muay thai and jiu jitsu. my opinion ofcourse -
Kung Fu?
Shane replied to GoGoGo's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
EVERYBODY WAS KUNG-FU FIGHTING!!!!!! A martial art, YES -
JKD philosophy: YES If we're going name a country here I'm going to have to agree it came from America, with some Chinese influence. Since it is a philosophy that is available for any of us to use, I do not think of it as American, Chinese or any other place, I just see it as a great philosophy that is available to the world.

Welcome to the world of the martial arts. Train hard and gain as much knowledge as possible from your instructors and even fellow students.
-
I dont see nothing wrong with that. Sometimes we train with gi tops another time without, and for various reasons such as weather, realistic training you name it. Even in a stricted environment as long as everyone is the same it should be allowed, if it is considered uniformed (everyone the same) then it should even be accepted in a strict school. Those are my thoughts I run an intense program but in a relaxed environment as far as being really stricted on certian issues that you might find in other schools.
-
If you enjoy learning a mix at once, then I suggest finding a good mixed martial arts school. At least then you could have an experience instructor evaluating you and making the appropiate corrections needed to perfect each technique. Some mixed arts schools have belt systems, some level programs and others you just go and train. So do not even be concerned with that, just start out where they place you and go from there.

At what skill level do most teachers determine if the student can handle that kind of knowledge? Its not done by what skill level they get to, it is judged by what kind of person they are. Normally you can tell right away if your going to be able to work with them or if your going to have to turn them away.

way off of topic BUT I see where both of you guys are coming from. Iam also like thai, I'm willing to share without holding back and not in the form of dance, but also I ensure before giving to much that the individual is able to realize and respect the awsome power and responsibilty of having such knowledge.

Its sounds like she is getting in gear and running these classes for what the are ment for SELF DEFENSE. Give these new styles of classes and chance. If you are just not satified with them then get out and find a club that fits your needs. Remember the Martial Arts were not designed from tournements taking place, they were designed from battles taking place and then trained for future battles. The sport part of the MA can be great but the Combat which in todays world would be self defense, I believe should be the primary focus. Just my thoughts

Ortiz Vs. Mezger III
Shane replied to wrestlingkaratechamp's topic in Pro Fighting Matches and Leagues
when are they fighting? I hope I did not already miss it!!!! -
P.A.L Now I agree with you hahaha. There is probably hundreds of things that we could go back and forth on with no right or wrong. Anyways thats part of what keeps us training and learning.

Web sites are cool but dont judge the book by its cover go check it out. See if they offer a free lesson and take it if they do if not, then ask to sit in and watch a few of the classes to see if its for you.
