i take BJJ, but saturdays they are offering a class of Muay Thai at my gym, and Im thinking about taking the class. I dont know too much about bag equipment, but i am hoping to get one in order to pratice some punches and kicks on. i dont really have the room for a the bags you hang up, and i saw a bag with a stand under it. are these bags good to pratice punches and kicks on? the bag im talking about looks like the bags in these liks: http://www.modells.com/product/index.jsp?productId=1968035&cp=710957.1190149.1190161&parentPage=family http://bullseyefitness.com/ecommerce/os/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=60 i heard hitting the bag is also good cardio and good for making jabs faster. is there anything else i need like gloves? and can i get these gloves at modells? because i searched there and i have seen many different gloves, i want one that i can get my jabs faster with,a nd condition my punches. i hope one class of muay thai for week is enough to get some skill. and is it safe for my hands and wrist? but back to the bag, you guys think its worth it for $100? the whole fill it with sand or water sounds sketchy, im hoping to get something good. ill figure the other things out like combos and stuff like that. any help would be propery appreciated please.

by the way, some of you mentioned your 15. dont stress yourself too much over this, because your still young and building your body. hell, im 17, and i shouldnt be stressing myself over this to much. so, take your time, and becareful. i also heard a rumor that if you workout before your 16, it can stunt your growth, not sure, but keep that in mind. stay healthy, and listen to your body. take care, and someone if im wrong, correct me please.

ive had a couple of classes in BJJ, like maybe 10, and there are these 3 kids who also came in around the same time as me. two of them are brothers and really big kids (strenght wise) and the other whihc is a friend weighs around the same as me ( 150-160 pounds) i cant get the brothers off me when we sparr, and when they grab me and hold me, they squeeze and it hurts. any tips to beating these kids, i cant seem to move them. thanks a lot

How does the combo of capoeira and BJJ work? I've always thought that'd be cool. i did capoeira for a year and am taking a break, but the way i was thinking is using the long distance capoiera kicks i learned in class, then if they get really close, or somehow bring me to the ground, BJJ would help me . now, capoiera has a lot of different grapples and kicks, but in my school it takes a while to learn the more complex ones, becuase i was told as begginers, we need to know how to do the basic kick, and how to protect ourselfves effeictively until we can learn more the combatitive stuff. because of this, i personally felt capoiera takes a while to be effective in a fight, but still can be. it will get you into a great shape. but yeaj, the combinations can work. now, for the crecsent kicks, im not sure which one your talking about.

either way, with the right training, it will help you get into to shape. its a hell fo a workout.

ah, its not working for me, is there anyways someone can send it to me please? -
like dumbells? this is what i do: curls 25 pounds: 3 sets, 8 reps. should i move on to 30? and how much should i do? the thing with 20 pounds where you hold your arm on the bottom part and bring your forearm up and down (not sure name) i do 7. one more where you just lift the dumbell up (i think for the shoulders, whats the name) 20 pounds 7 reps. these are all 3 sets. i do otehr stuff too, push ups. is it better to max out on push ups, wait a while, then do 10 reps? or is it better to do sets? and wont crunches make your abs bigger, so wont they be big eventually?

BJJ Belt System ?
Maddwraph replied to TriStateTerror's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Im just curious, at waht belt point do you think a person can defend himself effectively? if your a white belt training for a couple of months can you? -
i was feeling pain in my neck, thats probably because when i was sparring, i got a nasty headlock type thing from another begginer who took wrestling. my throat was also hurting today, im guessing because of this choke the begginer did on me, and because of the move where you grab the gi and choke the person with it (ouch) finally, something that kind of worried me, was the red marks on my neck and in the right arm (where the arm bends) these red marks im not sure why theya re there. the ones on the neck might be from the gi choke. my question is, is it alright to feel these pains (got much ebtter now) after these classes? can they be in anyways harmful? thanks

anyone see this movie? its from the makers of Ong-Bak, and stars Tony Jaa. Its a pretty good movie, but not as good as Ong-Bak. It didnt have as much hand to hand fighting, even though it does later on and it gets good. Just wondering if anyones seen it.

what do you do when you feel the burn going away?
Maddwraph replied to Maddwraph's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
wow, thanks for all the posts guys. especially AnonymousOne. i do like my martial arts, but for this month, i might just take a short break, think a little. im also going to college in a little over a year, so im eventually going to have to stop, and find a new one there, or if im fortunate enough to find the same one there. thanks a lot though. -
thanks. i have seen it in the rundown, but i heard catwomen was garbage, so i didint bother. they use it in ocean's twelve too. i want a movie with more than like a 5 minute fight scene though, but oh well. i might pick up ong-bak in the asian dvd, because i dont think it will come out as a U.S. release. thanks though

I had my first class today and it was pretty fun. i just have to get used to the very close contact, but it was pretty cool to learn some of the stuff. The teacher there told me that they teach spot BJJ. I was wondering if sport BJJ is useful in a fight. I take capoeira and as much as i like it, capoeira is a martial art that takes a while to really use it good in a fight. BJJ i heard that it is easier to learn and possibly more effective at an ealier stage. I was wondering if the same goes for sport BJJ? I want a martial arts thats effective since i am a skinny kid even though im about 5"11-6"0. Thanks a lot fo any responses and thoughts are always welcome.
