  1. I'm the odd bird on the wire here I've always liked the red on black belts. Night owls silver sounds like a really cool idea.
  2. Depends on what we're talking abput having embroidery.
  3. My grammar was horrible so I fixed it. By the way this afternoon I attempted another cap block with a reverse punch and got a clean break and I'm pleased that I met this goal.
  4. Yep he's actually the one that got me addicted to this wonderful thing call martial arts.
  5. Sorry about the confusion. My last post was in responce to the last few lines of Shorikid's post.
  6. No test. Some of the guys including myself are doing a demo for the local Cub Scouts next week and what better to do that some some oh ah moves like breaking. But I had a phone conversation with my Sensei last night and he had tried to break one of the six he bought yesterday and said he could break it with a reverse punch or hammer fist. So last night I stopped by the dojo and tried and tried 2 reverse punches and a hammer strike and fail. So I stopped today during a private class just to let him know that it wasn't just him that couldn't break them last night. He informed that he had tried an axe kick earlier today and only managed to bruise his heel. So I decided to give the axe kick a try and to my amazement it broke. The 2 private students enjoyed it. I wish I could have down it with a reverse punch. That is my actual goal. My next break attempt gearing up to the demo will be six spaced board then depending on how that goes I'll do six unspaced being held by a fellow member of the dojo.
  7. Well I broke the cap block I mention in an earlier post. I'm not happy with the fact I had to use an axe kick.
  8. Well My gut keeps telling me The Iron Man but the wallet doesn't like the $130 price tag.
  9. Shori You know I can't reveal the secret of my front kick. But man does it come in handy when I'm getting blasted and can't get the timing on the hands.
  10. I'm not going likely expensive but I just think that I trained hard enough to get my shodan that I deserve a good gi. And since I'm allowed to change to a black gi why not. I think a heavy weight is kinda what I'm use with being I wear a judo gi most of the time.
  11. I'm going to go ahead and ask what brand of gis you guys wear? what weight? What are the pros and cons of you gi?
  12. If money was no opition I'd have several gi's of various weights and brands so I could decide what was truely the one I liked the most. But since I scrap by I'll have to do with what I can afford to save up and get.
  13. I've got a couple single weave judo gi's that have held up for the past 3 years. I now want a good karate gi.
  14. I do Kempo with a hint of judo and jujitsu. also black it the color I'll be needing.
  15. Just google japanese karate terms you should be able to find plenty of sites that offer what you're looking for. I did thins and came up with a four page list for the advanced kids and the lower ranking adults a year or so ago. I did it simply because I thought some would find the terms interresting.
  16. I'm open for suggestions I got to look at a pro force tonight and kinda liked it. Let's see some of these others. Like I said I'm open to suggestions.
  17. This is something that will come with ring time. You'll get to were you miss an opening and see it as it's closing and think to youself. "Why didn't I do this or that." You'll be able to keep you mind from racing and spot more stuff the more you fight. All in due time.
  18. The one from Grapplers Quest showed great exicution of not only the belly to back but also in holding position to take the back and sink the rear naked choke. Great clips by the way.
  19. Why not mix it up the more you know the better off you are. The more well rounded martial artist. I take what I can from other styles because there's no perfect style that includes everything we need to be well rounded.
  20. On your gullitine if he can withstand the choke put some sideways torque toward the center of his neck. This motion will take it from a choke to a neck crank. This how I usally catch people who can with stand the choke.
  21. I promised myself a good gi if I were to ever get my shodan. So my question is do any of you guys know where I could find a good deal on a Century Iron MAn Gi because I can't seem to bring myself to pay $130 for a gi even though it may be worth it. Thanks in advance.
  22. I'm goning to deal out some advice after watching that video. First and most importantly keep your hands up especialy when kicking you dropping your hands to you waist and lower. You need to set up some combonations as well just letting your hands go. With as many kicks as you threw you never set down with a hand combo to kept you oppenant off balance. When you closed to grappling range was a decent job. But when you grab that gullitine lock it and pullhim into you guard to help secure the sub. Also nice job on the head control to take him on down just spin to his back even if the opion of getting your hooks aren't imediatley there. He's dropping his right hand when he throws his leg kick. Step through his leg kick and hit hit with a straight left. You side control need some tightening up. You leaving him too big of a space to move around and reestablish his guard. Knees to the body from side control. Light elbow to head also elbow the body. When going for your mount don't try throwing you leg over top as you tried. One he can block your attemp as he did. But it also possible to sweep when the mount is attempted like that because you weight is high and you body is off balance. Put you knee in his stomache and slide across thris keeps you weight low and his hip pinned to the floor. When you to his back and he grabs arm for that dump sweep get directly behind him to block. When he gets top postion start a mad scramble to get to your guard you laid there until he started raining knees down. You brab him the mount with little to no resistance.Once you get mount you number one priority should be bucking him out of posittion but if that's a no go lean up burying you face into his chest and lock you arms around his body but ideally you want to get locked around the back of his neck to control his posture to prevent the ground and pound. Good job on the escape from side control. When you have the mount rember to go for the body shots too. Change levels with you shots just as you would in your stand up. Good job on the rear naked choke.Next time he tries bridging like he did lock on a body triangle. All in all you did allright. Some of the thing I mentioned will come in time and training. I have to commend you on being willing to put your video up and subject yourself to the screwtiney of the masses.
  23. Welcome to KF. I think you'll enjoy it here and learn alot as I have.
  24. Welcome to the best forum on the web. Enjoy your stay.
  25. Johnlogic has some great points. Sounds like your cardio should be pretty good with a work out like you mentioned. Another thing that will burn you gas up is nerves. Going into a sparring session thinking about what need to be avioded or needs to be done, also getting aggrovated during a fight will fautige you as well. You may not think you a stressing going into your sparring phase but subconcinsely you may be. I've had this happen to myself before and not realize it until I talked to one of the high ranked guys I sparred with. Take a few minutes to decide how you want to fight that night and you set the pace of the fight. Your partner is wise enough to set a pace he knows that you will fold under cardio wise. You can learn alot about fighting just by talking to a more experinced fighter.
