I just read that Big Tim Sylvia has been released from his final fight on his contract. He will be going to a new promotion Adrenaline which was the short lived M-1 Global. Sylia stated that he only has 3 or 4 years left in the game and wants to fight as much as possible. The new promotion needs a big name to draw in American veiwers since they lost Fedor. You can check out the article at mmaweekly.com Maybe Big Tim will finally find fans that will respect him for the fight he is.

I too think this would be a great match to watch. I see it possible for Anderson to win. He would take the training very serious. But both guys would have a punchers chance to win. But I would see Anderson setting a blistering pass that seems to be how he likes to fight. Still I'd buy the ppv. Anderson not only wants to huss the crittics that MMA fighters are un skilled but he say it prove who's the best in the world at 185. There's a good article on mmaweekly on this subject that was posted several weeks ago.

What did I just watch?LOL I don't know what to say about that.

In the tournaments I compete in it's in the basic rule set. I'll look the rules over before entering a tourney and if they go more toward lay and prey I won't even waste my time with entering. But I also have to be very selective with what tournaments I go to because I only get the chance to compete on a rare occation.
-
That's also true. And I'm guilty of doing just what you mentioned back in high school. And that comes to and mental control of your other competetors as well. Think if you're watching all your competion in your given weight class and this guy just blows another guy out of the water and you're sure he's toying with the guy.

Bjj would be more aggressive if there was more emphisis put on the submission instead of points. There are a few tournaments that stress the sub. The last few I've competed in don't even count points for the first round and in case of a tie the last round is untimed and first take down wins which forces the competitors to be aggressive. But as stated above there is a must pin mentallity in wrestling. Part of the reason for this especially in high school wrestling, is because when competing in a dual match a win by pin is worth more than a win by points.

What you mentioned just takes time in training and free sparring. You will eventully be able to mentally slow the fight down so it doesn't seem so fast passed. When this happens you'll begin to see the openings with more ease. But trust me you'll see stuff and still miss it as a high level fighter and kick yourself for that too. But the more you spar the easier it will be to see the openings. Just giving time my friend.

The question really doesn't have a set answer. I can grapple offensively and defensivly. It just depends on the opponent. Situation to situation your game plan will change. Grappling either way done properly will lead to the baiting of your opponent. Thus baiting is what you are doing umltimately to make you adversery make a mistake to were you can pin or submit them. To win in your respective sport.

As Bushido stated you reacted with what was given to you. If you kicked the aggressor you wired enough to know you were not in grappling range. I would bet if the guy was within arms reach and grabbed you, you would have reacted differntly. You reacted without hesitation and nuetrilized the situation. And that's what martial artist do. -
Randy many not have what some consider a large skill set. But he has refined what he has to were it works. He has to be some sort of good bet had beat some pretty good fighters. I mean he spanked Tito, Belfort (twice), Rizzo (Twice), Horn, Sylvia and Gonzoga. He fights those that are considered the best at the time he fights them. A look at the fact most of the guys are younger and in what you wold consider their prime. Some of the thing he does aren't the most techniqual but the work.

You reacted perfectlly in my book. You acted without thinking. And you caused no more damaged than nessicery. And you were the one attacked while trying to care for an injured person. -
Yes it sir. Karo proves it everytime his opponent says "that Judo stuff won't work on me." Karo makes sure he dumps them on their heads everytime. Any he makes it look so effortless and graceful. Oh I forgot painfull too. LOL. I watch his fights to see the throws cause we all know it's going to happen.

Good luck with that promotion. And welcome to the boards. -
I don't hold any rank in Judo. I was trying to get into the only Judo school within about 75 miles from where I live and the cash flow fell through. I am always looking at text and trying to figure things out on my own and with the feed back from my very knowledgeable and trustworth uke. I have spent some time in the past training with very good Judoka in a nearby town before he moved to fight pro again.

Can that poor fella sign up on disablity? That is horrible. I think I'd rather be shot or stabed.

I don't even know how to respond after hearing that. News like that just makes the horrible week I had last week seem so trivial. Best wishes to your friends.

I think that the popularity of boxing hasn't really fallen. It's more that everyone has jumped aboard the MMA bandwagon. If the popularity has fallen it's among the younger generation. I personally prefer to watch MMA over boxing. My reason for this is I don't find boxing that exciting and honestly never have. But in boxings defense I'm able to watch a good close fight that is back and forth even if it goes the distance. Again I feel the same for mma fights as long as they are exciting of very techniqual. I just dispise a boring fight no matter the style. I also feel if boxing was as advitised as say the UFC the popularity would not seem as low as it does. Just think about how many commercials you see for each UFC PPV on how many channels compared to how many you see for a big boxing PPV. As for the champion question. I feel one or two can be justified unless you talking across for diffrent orginazations. This is just my 2 cents.

I would love to train in Japan at the Kodokan. Japanese and Brazilan Jujitsu. Then I'd have to make my way to Hollywood to train with Gene LeBell, and Gokor in the Hayastan. Kyokushin Karate. But Like Shorikid said I'm a junkie I'll try anything once.
