  1. Welcome to the forum. No need to lock this thread. Why would you not like others to say hi back at ya'?
  2. Welcome to the forum. Hoping you enjoy posting as well as reading.
  3. You will find an abundance of information about shotokan on the internet. http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Fuji/2890/ http://www.24fightingchickens.com/shotokan/101/03_shotokan.html http://ctr.usf.edu/shotokan/kata.html These are pretty solid links to get a look at.
  4. Hey are are you. Like the changes?
  5. You can also try sitting them out at the sides for inapporpriate behaviour.
  6. No white belt is lowly. A serious student regardless of rank is respected here.
  7. Welcome, glad to see that you made it in. There are a lot of people here who practice shotokan. So any questions you have will be welcome.
  8. Welcome to the forum. And don't worry about fracturing any english. Sometimes it is us native speakers who are the worst. This is a very active place. So post away.
  9. They will be in the new topics in the forum. Actually the are there now you just can't see them yet.
  10. Welcome to the forum. But, please leave me some brains I am allready goofy enough.
  11. There will be some new forums opening up in a day or two. They were probably moved there. One of the new topics is Art vs Art. A lot of threads went there. There is also a new forum on strategies and tactics opening. Hope that helps. A lot of threads are getting moved right now.
  12. Elvis did train in karate, so did Priscilla. His 1st and 2nd dan ranking were probably legitimately earned. He started training while staitioned in Germany while in the army. He later wore and elaborite gi(?) with a 7th dan rank on the belt. This is what I remember from an article in Black Belt a few years ago.
  13. Good idea. This could get interesting. And those who train in multiple arts can just post like omnifinite did and tell us which arts they train in.
  14. Sure wish I did. My short term memory has gone to errrr uhhhmmmm I forgot where it went!
  15. Plastic canvas is cool I made like over a 100 ornaments last year at Christmas. And if you want a special sized box it is easy to do with plastic canvas and with graphing it out and the right colors of yarn any pattern or design of your choice will make it a special box. My Dad loves his book cover I made too.
  16. I am really likeing the quick reply.
  17. Welcome to the forum. Keep training.
  18. Whoa what a ...... well I am not actually sure what.
  19. I too wear shoes and am thinking about the Discipline shoes for my next pair. I have had several pears of pine tree shoes. My big problem with the leather sneakers is the way they stretch. MA sneakers are much lighter and closer fitting than cross trainers.
  20. Okay I came out msn aero Dr Pepper
  21. There are some basic survival skills everyone should know. And yes, cooking is one. Also being able to replace a button and maybe patch a hole in clothing.
  22. Well the first Shotokan katas most learn are Taikokyu and then the Heians. And that should take up a couple of years. Then Bassai Dai and Kanku or Tekki shodan. I really think I am going to move this thread to Getting Started in the MA though. Maybe it fits better there.
  23. Very thought provoking response G95. It is exteremely difficult to have the best of all worlds. In the good old days there were few women students. And I am sure there were very few handicapped students. In many ways I am glad that some things have changed. I am also glad that my dojo is very tradional in values. And no belts are given to anyone. I also highly appreciate plumping, air conditioning, and the internet. Thinking about the past is a good thing in many ways it allows us to have dreams. And solid accomplishments of others to try to equall or surpass.
  24. Good material for thought.
  25. I have a new addition to the family. The other day I was at the pet shop looking for a scratching post. And I stopped to admire the guinea pigs. There was this one who was all cute and friendly. They told me that she had been there for a while and was pregnant - why she was hard to sell. I held her and we sort of bonded. But I had no cage anymore and no money for one. Well someone gave me a cage. And now Christie is part of the family and Shadow is still not that happy about it. She is mostly white with medium lenght hair. The right side of her face and her ears are dark. And I found a guinea pig forum so I can talk about her to other's who love guinea pigs.
