Prevention of Long term injury to joints
SaiFightsMS replied to Eye of the Tiger's topic in Health and Fitness
Practice kicks in slow motion working extra careful on the technique. Do this working both with the air and into a bag. Notice that when you actually kick something the leg is not fully extended at the moment of contact or their is no force behind it. -
It was in 1976 and I was stationed at Ft Devons. I was sort of freshly out of plaster from a nasty stress fracture. And I was on my way downstairs from the third floor. I took my normal jump down the last 4 steps in one leap and rippppppp. Actually in about 6 weeks I began to do some light jogging again. I wasn't the smartest when I was younger.

This morning when I looked in the cage there were 3 lovely little babies with Christie. Such squeeky little piggies.

Which race is best in FIGHT and Martial Arts
SaiFightsMS replied to TigerKorea's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I am going to close and exile this. The topic will too easily get offensive. -
Here's a smile to make your day. Enjoy. On the outskirts of a small town, there was a big, old pecan tree just inside the cemetery fence. One day, two boys filled up a bucketful of nuts and sat down by the tree, out of sight, and began dividing the nuts. "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me," said one boy. Several dropped and rolled down toward the fence. Another boy came riding along the road on his bicycle. As he passed, he thought he heard voices from inside the cemetery. He slowed down to investigate. Sure enough, he heard, "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me." He just knew what it was. "Oh my", he shuddered, it's Satan and the Lord dividing the souls at the cemetery. He jumped back on his bike and rode off. Just around the bend he met an old man with a cane, hobbling along. "Come here quick," said the boy, "you won't believe what I heard! Satan and the Lord are down at the cemetery dividing up the souls." The man said, "Beat it kid, can't you see it's hard for me to walk." When the boy insisted though, the man hobbled to the cemetery. Standing by the fence they heard, "One for you, one for me. One for you, one for me..." The old man whispered, "Boy, you've been tellin' the truth. Let's see if we can see the Lord himself." Shaking with fear, they peered through the fence, yet were still unable to see anything. The old man and the boy gripped the wrought iron bars of the fence tighter and tighter as they tried to get a glimpse of the Lord. At last they heard, "One for you, one for me." And one last "One for you, one for me. That's all. Now let's go get those nuts by the fence, and we'll be done." ... They say the old man made it back to town a full 5 minutes ahead of the boy on the bike.

I am a bit curious as to wether or not any others of you have ever had an achilles tendon tear. I tore mine when I was 19. Now many years since then I notice that when I stretch I have to stretch that side a little longer than the other one to achieve the same amount of flexibility. Has any one else had a similar occurance?

What's your story?
SaiFightsMS replied to three60roundhouse's topic in Instructors and School Owners
From early on we are expected to be able to help a student coming along behind us in the ranks with a new form they are learning. And very often a different student is chosen each class to lead warmups. -
Rotator cuff is a nasty word around me. I have had too much trouble with mine. Not from incorrect technique or anything like that. The last time I had a problem both of my rotator cuffs blew while I was using my manual wheelchair. The rage I had in the long struggle afterwards fueled my initial martial arts activity.

I like the way there is so much information available about Shotokan particularly on the internet. There are many good web sites, club sites and even at least one shotokan only forum.

Er there are also some men who belong to "womens club". There are a few things that crop up among females that do not crop up among the men. A while back "someone" started a topic that got a bit controversial that illustrates the point of a bit of a need for "womens discussions". http://www.karateforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1611&highlight=periods

What time would you like to see for a chat event?
SaiFightsMS replied to Patrick's topic in KarateForums.com Announcements
I didn't have much luck getting in on fridays. Seems like more often than not I was up and moving around during the Uk chat time but otherwise engaged. Maybe a saturday time like the 9pm est time or the same time frame for those in the Uk. -
You know the way everyone checks out potential new clothes to see how well they can move around in them you know to see if you can throw a good kick in them or maybe stretch a bit without ripping them out. I saw an add for jeans made with a gusset in them just like our gi/dobok pants. http://www.gusset.com Would someone like to volunteer to get a pair and test them out and review them?

I used to be a rabid baseball fan. Then they had a strike. So I didn't watch the next season. And never really got back into it. So here they are grossly overpaid and ready to strike again. So do things like strikes affect your view of the so called "all american pastime".

What does black-belt mean to you?
SaiFightsMS replied to koreantiger81's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
On one level the black belt is a point that seperates those who wanted a black belt, and had the physical ability, to stick it out get the belt and quit from those who truly want to learn a martial art. Those who stay at that point prove themselves to be a true student and begin over again in a sense. The top slat on my belt rack is occupied by a white belt to symbolise the new start rather than a black belt. -
