One of the drawbacks to navy seal type training and workout is the distances involved in the running part. It is also common during seal training for recruits to wash out because of problems developed during the intense training. Stress fractures are very common. As you have just learned any type of a running program should gradually build up distance.

There is a thread called Makiwari work that I just brought back up. It includes links to building them and other things. So I am going to close this one and say please look at the other link.

There was a new makiwari question asked so does anyone have stories about them they would like to share.

Lots of interesting responses. The last time that I had even shoulder length hair was 7th grade. And that was a very long time ago. I am very happy with short hair. Just keep after your dad. Men can be so stupid when it comes to someone elses hair. Maybe it is their own fears of going bald. Or some stupid misplaced chivalric attitude of the middle ages. If all else fails remember that one day you will be of an age where you make the final decision.

No Ad I don't think it is a teen thing or even a male teen thing. Many of us go through dark periods. I know that I certainly have. Something comes along that you can latch onto or get interested in and climb out of the hole with. New activities are really good for this. I have a strange philosophy about life. I see it kind of like jumping on a tramoline full of ups and downs. Then sometimes you take a bad bounce on your own or someone jumps on with you at the wrong time and you either land on the springs or hit the floor. So you are hurt sometimes to varying degrees. There are times those around you can help you right back up. Then other times you are hurt so badly that all you can do is lay on the hard floor and look up at the bottom of the tramp. Eventually you crawl back up on your own or with a bit of help. Just my two cents worth.

There comes a time with a chronic condition when an evaluation is overdue. How much are you doing and what is it doing to you in return. And then the cost - the physical cost now and in the long run. Then the activities need to be adjusted. Maybe less jumping or a new activity.

Don't forget the bicycle; or swimming.

Any other Monkey's out their? The Monkey is inquisitive, imaginative and intelligent. They also have a lot of charm and confidence in their abilities but can, however, tend to be crafty or cunning. The old Year of the Tiger may have proved challenging for the Monkey as they would have found some of their plans have been delayed. The Year of the Rabbit will however allow the Monkey person to bounce back to their usual self where they benefit from any opportunities arising. In work the Monkey will be able to make progress and better their positions by either taking on new responsibilities or having a promotion. Financially the Monkey will notice an upturn through unexpected areas but if making large purchases is advised to compare ranges before making a decision. Domestically and socially the Monkey will be busy and at times will despair of the amount of chores mounting up. At these times they are advised to prioritise their schedules and not take on anything new until other projects have been finalised.

The net was a bit cranky last week. One morning everyone in cat chat either got booted out or got a system 116 error. Everyone had to reboot and re-enter.

My martial arts training has helped me in so many ways that I cannot really explain them all. At a time when my life was at one of the lowest points I started training. And my life gradually turned around. I have recieved mircaculous physical benefits. My mental state has also benefitted trememdously. I also love researching my art. And talking to others about it via the internet.

Who subscribes to Blackbelt Magazine?
SaiFightsMS replied to Withers M.A.A.'s topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I have subscribed for several years now. Yes, some issues are better than others mainly do to whether or not the articles are on topics that interest me. I think what they cover has changed over time but mainly in relation to how the general attitudes about martial arts have changed. While I may not enjoy NHB I do realize that there are many who do. And BB is not a specialty mag it is aimed at a general audience. And in a way exposure to more things is good. -
Nunchaku come in many different forms. The only limit is 2 sticks of some type with a flexible connection. There have probably been millions of home made nunchaku with no two being exactly the same.

Hi Shaolinprincess I have trained with bo, sai, tonfa and nunchaku - listed in order of preferance. One day I plan on starting kama. But that will have to wait a bit.

Never noticed that before KenpoChick. I will go back and eliminate them.

I began to be aware of world and national events at a time when American Patriatism was probably at an all time low. I have seen both bras and draft cards burned. There were huge differences in how different age groups viewed the world and out country. Recent events have changed that. I never really got a sense of what patriatism was until the Iran/Iraq war. And after 9/11 that was revived and seems to be so much stronger. People have painted American flags on their houses, and even grow plants in their yards in patriotic patters. Are Americans push - sure some are. Are people of any other nationality pushy - sure they are. Any person from any location will be pushy and maybe even seem arrogant when you come across something they care deeply about.

Hobbitbob I have to agree with you on that one and say me too.
