may i reply to this very interesting thread. of course first i must agree wholeheartedly with the points raised by TAE, kARATEKA, and EGARLOCK (reference to mathmatics was brilliant) and stand on there side toward the poomse(kata) issue. next i would like to say that as usual and predicted the younger/youthful responce to calculated movements is found to be boring and stiff to them. they want and require fast, quick, now responces without thinking of the consequenses or the results of there actions. lastly i would like to introduce the other benefits to calculated movements(kata, poomse, forms, hyungs). that of, controlled and calculated breathing while making the movements. and the increased balance it takes to make those movements under controlled, precised conditions. humble respects with a bow

everyone excells in something....some are better with there hands and some are better with there feet.....personally i feel much better using my legs and feet than my arms and hands.......... so therefore the korean arts suits me better. humble respect with a bow

Spinning Kicks
iamrushman replied to Angus's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
convert the spinning kicks to turning kicks and you got a winner. now terninology...i consider a turning kick when you bring the kicking foot close to the standing leg's knee. (hard to discribe in words) practicing your spinning kicks helps your balance and equilibrium. humble respects with a bow -
Workouts combining your Martial Arts skills.
iamrushman replied to Angus's topic in Health and Fitness
ANGUS my friend ...how do you find time to make all those post if your working out so much......you must look like a chiseled statue....... lol..just joking. keep up the good work and i'm sure you'll go far in your art. oh i forgot..i teach five classes a week..but then i have to work too. humble respects with a bow:nod: -
yes; i have participated in many tourniments in my studies. i feel that participating in competition is good for learning how to react to the unexpected and to refine techniques. also it gives the participant the kowledge and comfort that is needed to perform in front of crowds. for instance, like in public speaking... i also feel that protective gear is a must to keep saftey and fun at the forefront of compitition. don't get me wrong i don't mean that all compitition should be protected, such as masa yama's tourniment or true thai boxing because i love to watch those,(for you muay thai and kickboxing specialist) but it can be brutal. what ever you choose to do it's your personal choice. good luck humble respects with a bow:nod:

dreamer.....early congratulations to you.....i know you did fine with your test.......since you didn't mention not breaking your board, that tells me you did. i have broken many a board and brick during my martial arts studies enjoying the excitment it brings. but personally i (and i'm sure your husband) enjoys a womans nice soft hands and feet.(smile) so i recommend you keep the breaking techniques to a minimum. again congratulations on your nice bright yellow belt . and keep up the good work

yes; bruising ones ego for the good of teaching one a lesson is acceptable. to bruise anothers body to protect one's self or the innocent is also acceptable. but to use excessive force when not required is not acceptable. respectfully with a bow

Muay Thai grappling...
iamrushman replied to Angus's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
my only view on the subject of muay thai vs kickboxing is that muay thai has been around much longer and is a partial foundation of kickboxing. in my humble opinion with a bow. -

40ish here: old enough to know better and too young to resist. the young want to be older and the older want to be young. youth is wasted on the young. age is just a number. you are as young as you feel. just some views.

i must agree with tae here.
