Jujitsu vs. BJJ
Tibby replied to BLH28's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Yeah. I'm with him. Who ever told you JJ and Judo don't have good Ground skills is full of it. Where do you think Carlos Gracie learned his Ground Skills from? On top of that, there are documented cases of Judoka’s Beating the Gracie’s themselves, on the ground, no less! Which is better, BJJ or Judo? it is like asking someone whither Hockey or Soccer is better. Similar fighting styles, Judo focus much more on Throws, but don’t be mistaken, they do plenty of ground work. A good one point throw (an instant win in judo, which is received from throwing an opponent flat on his back with significant force) is hard to get, most Judo matches are won by submission, as are Jujitsu. And even if they do focus on Standing more then ground work, when you get to a BJJ school and train there, you will be a more well rounded fighter then the rest before you have had more training with Standing grappling in Judo, and you will know how to incorporate it all in with Strikes and kicks from Jujitsu. -
Yeah, I wish you both luck! Let us know how he does.

After we stretch, we do some isometrics and body weight Exercises, and a few light kicking and punching combo's.

UFC and Jujitsu Tournaments
Tibby replied to Tibby's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Year, I just made a point of adding "No gi" because I knew someone would have eventually said "They don't where GI's in the UFC." I just wanted to skip a few steps. I wanted to get peoples thoughts on the fighting of UFC and Jujitsu, not the “accessories” -
Oh, no, you were clear. I were replying to the original post about Isometrics.
-
Yeah, those are abs. Obliques are a little different. You have to work them, or you will have sunken in Areas on either side of your cut abs.

What kidn of a progrma where you looking for? Running? Weight training? What?

WhiteBelt and JKTT are right, he is talking about Isometrics. Plyometrics are a whole other ball game. As for Isometrics making your drip sweat, well... I can make love for 10 minutes and be dripping in sweat! I can sit in my car that has been in the hot sun all day and sweat after 1 minute. You can sweat and accomplish nothing. And you don’t know if the work out worked untill the next work out! Isometrics are good, but they don't come close to matching up to Isotonics, such as weights.

Jujitsu vs. BJJ
Tibby replied to BLH28's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Join the club. You will be more advanced when you do finally get into a local BJJ school. Judo Focus more on throws because they are harder to do then ground work, but you will still learn plenty of ground moves. As for Juijutsu/Judo combo schools, that is the kind I go to, and we have a few guys to go to BJJ tournaments on a regualr bases. Sometimes they do pretty well. -
Man, I didn't even notice the Chatroom was gone till someone just said it! Damnit! Well, I never saw more then 3 people in it at once, anyhow.

Kung Fu for a Karateka
Tibby replied to Tibby's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Cool or effective? I want both, to be honest. I know from Karate that Kata can really help you with your speed and make you comfortable with strikes. I do want to do it for that aspect, but mainly, I want it to look cool. I get enough combat and fight training from class and extra training, now I want some stuff that looks good, a foot sweep and an arm bar can work great, but it not look smooth, and it isn't the kind of thing people will think of a Martial Artist doing. Plus, the Fast pace, cool-looking stuff they do in the movies- effective or not- looks like a fun! That is really the main reason, it looks like a lot of fun to do! I'll look us some of the stuff you suggested. -
Kung Fu for a Karateka
Tibby replied to Tibby's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
I'd loveto go to a teacher, but I can't, like I said, there arn't any around here.I always tell people on the Jujitsu and Karate baord "You can't leanrfrom video's" and i know where you are coming from, but in htis part of Texas, We have Karate, Karate, and Karate. Maybe a little TKD to, and the Jujitsu school I'm at is the only grappling school for miles! Boxing is even hard to find in this area! This isn't like Cali(which is good in some ways ), we don't have a Martial Arts school on every block, so we have to take what we can get, and what we can get is karate, karate, and karate. -
Hey guys, I’m mostly a Japanese Artist. I don’t know Jack about the Chinese Arts. All I know comes from late nights with 70’s Kung Fu movies. Anyways, my current school is a Jujitsu school that focuses a lot on Combat and training. After a few months of this, I’m really enjoying it, but I’m starting to miss the Kata we did at my Karate school. I’ve been thinking about the old Kung Fu movies me and my friend love so much. You know those seens where the hero is training alone in the Jungle or a temple or something, and he does these beautiful but fast Kata (or whatever you call them)? Well, I was wondering what is it called, and where can I get video’s to start practicing it a little, just for my self. Also what kinds of keywords to search for when looking for tape? I know, I know, I should find an instructor, but there are no schools in my area. So, if anyone knows of an instructional video’s that teaches you kata similar to the ones done in the old movies, please let me know. If those are even real kata’s, and they aren’t made up but Hollywood, that is.

Guillotine Choke is simple enough, When they do something, such as tackle you, where there head is under your arm, run your arm under there neck, locking both arms, and them pull up and back. This is in O Soto gari: http://www.judoinfo.com/images/animations/blue/osotogari.gif But the O soto isn't what I would call the best move for the street. It looks simple, but it is has to be trained before you can do anything. It is a great move, but a beginner would find himself in trobule without some form of instrustion. I'd fear this would mislead some of the guys who don't have formal training into tryign it without working with it, and end up getting thrashed.

Ju Jitsu?
Tibby replied to Kung Fu Hamster's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
JuJitsu was really what the Samurai trained in, not the Ninja. The "ninjitsu" the ninja's trained in was similar, though. Basically, Jujitsu involves strikes, joint locks, evasion, throws, ground work, pressure points, and all kinds of other fun stuff. No I have a question for you, is Total War any good? Is it like a Age of Empires clone? -
1. Turn the caps lock off 2. Arnold is in his early 50’s 3. Heart problems are caused by drug problems. 4. To tack on to the end of 3, You can’t get REALLY BIG without great genetics, and/or boat loads of steroids.

Do somethign about all the cardio. WAY to much cardio in there. Most of those Martial Arts give you a good cardio work out as it is. Maybe take out or cut down the 3 mile runs.

Judo vs Aikido
Tibby replied to YoungGrasshopper's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Some of them. But many of the moves and me easily adapted to work on a foe with a weak tee or no shirt at all.
