What made you do the Martial Art that you do?
Tibby replied to Metsubushi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
After years of Boxing and Karate and even various Swordfighting styles, I figured I had enough Striking, time to try my hand at grappling. I've loved it is far! -
Boxing vs Judo
Tibby replied to MMouse's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Both are good, but I would Pick Judo. Boxing, other then toughening you up, you learn one thing, to punch. Judo, not only will it toughen you up more, but you will learn a wider range of things to do. Standing work, ground work, things like that. On top of that, most Asian martial arts like Judo or Karate will teach a little Self-defense, even if it is just for posterity, but most Western Martial Arts, like Boxing or Wrestling, you just learn to fight, for sports. Now the down side, learning Judo takes time. You will not be able to throw someone after one class. You will, however, learn to punch properly from one boxing class. If you are in a rush to learn to fight, as in, you fear you are going to get killed next week if you don't learn to protect your self, Boxing would be better. -
You mean "freedom" cane, don't you? Sorry, had to say it.

You sure about that? Maybe your thinking of the old school 8-bit Karate games. I believe they had 2 guys, one with red, the other with white. Great games. I wish I could find some place to DL them. So simple, yet so addicting! Anyone know of any REALLY good abandonware sites where I can DL these games? -

First time sparring: broken ribs or normal pain ?
Tibby replied to goedikey's topic in Health and Fitness
Subluxation is a partial dislocation, not a sprain. A dislocation and a sprain are 2 different things. A Sprain is the overstretching and/or tearing of a ligament. Sprain being one of several problems resulting from a dislocation, but it is not a dislocation, and there is nothing “pop into place.” If his rib is dislocated, he will need to adjust it, but if not, he should save his cash and ice it up. -
My friend is in a class in San Angelo, in West Texas (I'm in the East). I might visit him and go to the class some time. It sounds like a good style.

First time sparring: broken ribs or normal pain ?
Tibby replied to goedikey's topic in Health and Fitness
A Chiro might help you. Now, if you are bruised, it may just heart, and if you end up going to a bad one (of which there are tons) you might find the rib to be injuryed even longer then need be. Once the rib is healths, go to one, to get yourself all in wack and everything. -
Serously. Just do a search on this forum, or google it. There plenty of posts about them, and every sites with pictures.

First time sparring: broken ribs or normal pain ?
Tibby replied to goedikey's topic in Health and Fitness
Well, his symptoms sure sound like a bruised rib: If he had damaged the connective tissue, he said “I can breathe, move my arms and torso no problem and get by my day too.” We would be in a hell of a lot more pain if he had over stretch those or something of that nature. -
Running attacks and takedown advice...
Tibby replied to cymry's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Hey bro, instead of a kick, try a foot sweep or hook or block. That is what is sounds like you are talking about. When judoinfo.com gets up and running again, I'll get you a few pics of footsweeps and such, tell us which one it is more like. As for taking down big guys, there are a ton of stuff? What where you looking for? How big is he and how big are you? -

lol, I reread you post after I posted, and thought you DID understand, and I was wrong is thinking you didn't. lol. Ok, before I edited it, my last Paragraph said: When I said "dinosaur" I was referring the dinosaur training, the style of lifting that comes out of Brooks Kubik's camp. Most trainers aren’t into that kind of thing. Sorry, I should have made it clear what I was talking about for the less weight training literal Yeah, the leg press is better for focusing on the quads. Not nearly as good as sqauts. -

Tibby replied to ad's topic in Health and Fitness
Yeah, I didn't get it either. Some people they seem to think Leg press will make up for it. Morons. yeah, a lot of trainers aren't from Brooks Kubik's camp. Dinosaur trainers are kind of annoying some times. I love free weights, but sometimes you need to use machines. I worship at the alter of the all-mighty cable god! -

No joke. The gyms spend way to much money on this crap when free weights can do most of it! -
Thanks

the balance of incline, decline and flat bench press
Tibby replied to ad's topic in Health and Fitness
The Bench press isn’t likes as much now mostly because the gym rats spend to much time reading Muscle and Fiction and to little time training. Some feel the flat bench is at the top of a long list of archaic exercises that do more harm then good. This school of thought has pretty much stopped all use of squats and bench press. Now they use lesser exercise like leg presses and machine presses, claiming they work just as good, but cause less damage. Most people aren’t as HARDCORE into this to fully give up the bench press AND Squat AND the other so-called “useless“ exercises, but bits and pieces of this line of thinking has infested the minds of many young lifters and gym rats. Some give up the squats, other give up the bench. Others just feel there are better ways to work the chest. This isn’t entirely wrong. The Bench press is a great exercise, but there are plenty of other great exercises that are overlooked by the Dinosaur trainers and westsiders. -

A friend of mine is deallign with the same problem, and have been for a week end. It is just a brused rib. Hard to breatth deep, but there should be no serous damage. Just ice it, and take some ibuprofen. -

No point. You don't need to just to barbell pressing. Though it is a GREATexercise, it isn't the primal way to work your fighting muscles. You can do something like this: Flat bench flies Incline Barbell press Decline dumbell press -
Cok So Won. I'm not sure if that is the spelling. My friend is in the Air Force, and they offer it at his base. From how he talks about it, it sounds a lot like Jujitsu. It was everything Jujitsu has, with a different belt ranking. THey go from like white to blue or something like that. Anyways, my friend is as high ranked in his art as I am in Jujitsu, so he will bring his gi next time, and we can spar a little . I'm looking forward to seeing this art in action. Has anyone had any experance in this art? Anyone take this art? How does it compare to Jujitsu or Hapkido? How does it differ?
