Optimum Body Positioning
Bulltahr replied to Alan Armstrong's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Having just been owned on Friday night sparring session, because of this very subject. Tells me how far I have yet to go........... My footwork may be OK, but counter positioning needs a LOT of work. -
International Black Belt Open Championships
Bulltahr replied to Kyonovice's topic in Pro Fighting Matches and Leagues
MMMM sounds promising... So by the wording it is light contact, stand up striking, no grappling?. (Yay, grappling is quite boring to watch for me anyway.) "Bouts are to be fought to a light continuous ruling system and in order to keep the bouts exciting to watch and encourage a continual flow." Sorry dates on website say September 2017. Any youtubery links? -
Top tip, cheers. The webbing used on the blitz odachi is made of tissue paper, kind of put me off the material altogether. Now I was in the military thu the 80's, so they may be harder to find these days if they have changed the design. Try and find the Tropical climate DPM trousers. they are top quality for sure.
-
If you can find some army surplus, Brit army hot weather trousers then grab the webbing drawstring out of them. I still have one going strong, even after 3 hard years in a jungle environment where the stitching on my clothing would rot. The web belt still going strong.

An embroidery shop can do it no problem, there will be a set up fee tho and you will need to supply them with the artwork in a digital format.

I inquired on the Seishin facebook page and they replied that there were only 2 models, mens and womans and that they are designed on Okinawa and manufactured in South East Asia. FWIW....
-
I assume they offer different models and cuts? Do they offer a premium grade gi? That stitching is terrible for such a "high end" gi. Speaking of Ronin, I must say that I am happy with my blue label gi from them. 10 months use so far and still has the blueish hue to it, shrinkage was significant at the first few washes but has settled down now. I might do a review of it if it would be of interest.

Welcome MKdaggy, you have found a nice corner of the interwebby for MA practitioners....

Just wanted to make a quick correction on this. Seishin gi's are made in Pakistan, not Sweden. They are not very forthright with this information. It's not anywhere on their website that I can find beyond saying that they are not made in Okinawa on their FAQ page. They conceal this fact one step further by writing on the jacket of the gi "Made in Pakistan" in Japanese. It certainly looks like they are trying to imply to western customers that these gi's are made in Japan/Okinawa when they are not. I will try to get a picture tonight if I can remember to do so. I just bought one of these gi's, I will post a quick initial thoughts and a review later. I intend to wear it to class tonight and see how it goes. Looking forward to your review. I bought a Ronin gi almost 1 year ago, it also is made in Pakistan. I have found the workmanship and material to be excellent quality. I guess that I don't care that a Gi is not made in Japan, as long as it is well made and with quality materials. "The proof is on the floor" to quote Sensei8, if the gi is comfortable and works for you then surely it doesn't matter where it's made.

Rumour has it there will be a 3rd in the series, 20 years later. I would have loved to see a prequel done first tho.

COMBAT FLANKING SKILLS
Bulltahr replied to Alan Armstrong's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
What are some good counters to flanking? if both are right hand dominant stance fighters everyone will be getting a bit dizzy after a while..... If I feel my opponent is getting the better and controlling me I try to break off and reset.... -
I like the "red" tiger balm over the white one.

Can Someone Please Define This For Me??
Bulltahr replied to sensei8's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
In this case "Moderation" is legalise for a very broad and non-specific "don't over do it." -
Sorry, "reality" shows aren't really my thing. Well, TV isn't really my thing to be honest, apart from a good history Doco or a quality movie, of which there are very few these days.

Great movie, does a great job of personifying the values of Karate.

Visiting Another School of the MA!!
Bulltahr replied to sensei8's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Interesting to see this subject come up when last night I trained at a dojo in Moscow, Russia. Same style, but they do not bow in and out. I myself did, as that was what I was taught and it felt right to me, especially knowing that it was not going to offend anyone. I think that if you normally bow in and out then it is a demostration of your respect for the floor and the club you are visiting. If youdo not normally bow in and out then do whatever you normally do. -
I did see a while ago maybe it was from here, someone put a link to a youtube clip where a policeman in the middle of the street disarmed a guy with a knife. China, and it was very real he did an awesome job. If anyone remembers the clip or knows of it a link would be appreciated as it is relevant to this thread.

Respect and fellowship are the cornerstone of the KF forums, also the only ones that I frequent these days.

A keyboard warrior is one of those sad examples of the weakness of mind in the human condition provided by at anonymity of the internet. It has a very negative connotation when used, although not as bad as a "Troll" of which we had a mild example right here on KF a few months ago.

Only foot techniques to the head, if you can get them there, no helmets. gloves, mouth guard and boot thingies. Intensity: Depends on what you agree, light to Maximum power.
