  1. Welcome to the forums Joi .
  2. yea I guess you have a point there.
  3. I for one am against it in sparring but, for self defense I have no problem going there, not only with kicks but other strikes also.
  4. Many samurai were also archers. I haven't seen this episode yet but from what your saying they seem to leave out alot of other weapons that were used.
  5. OWWW! Why would anyone even attempt this.
  6. Welcome aboard !
  7. I would have to say any stick ( bo, jo etc.) because you can always find some sort of stick lying around weather it's a broom, pool stick, tree branch whatever.
  8. This past week they put an Apache warrior against a Gladiator, they went over a lot of both warriors weapons and ran a simulation through a computer that covered 1000 battles and which ever one won the majority of battles won. Next week is Samurai vs. Viking.
  9. Just watched this new show called Deadliest Warrior very interesting was just wondering if anyone else has seen it.
  10. Have you tried to squat with weight plates under your heels ? Try it , put two 45 lb plates down and place just your heels on them. I have seen this help people before.
  11. We also have the same problem with some " adults ", kyu ranks and believe me it drives me nuts when you have most of the class working really hard, but I guess you will always have that 10% that just seem to go through the motions.
  12. I just feel that we as martial artists should be able to control our emotions in a real situation better than most people. Thus not getting angry, remaining calm even in the face of adversity, but that's just my opinion.
  13. Welcome aboard Tony.
  14. I enjoy mine with just a little cream and sugar. Even though sometimes a mocha will hit the spot.
  15. I agree that there is a huge difference between being angry and being fueled by adrenaline. I have seen people get angry during sparring, and their technique goes right out the window.Whereas if you are fueled by adrenaline you can still maintain control.
  16. In our dojo it is also considered disrespectful for your belt to touch the floor, unless it is still attached to you.
  17. 1. I like to use it in sparring especially if I'm having trouble getting past my opponents defenses, as far as hands or feet I use both it just depends on what technique I plan on following up with. 2. For self defense I don't think feinting is very practical, not really enough time to set up techniques. I'm more straight forward no hiding my intentions (which for self defense are all bad.)
  18. For the history of breaking, I have always heard that it was done because the people of Okinawa being banned from owning weapons needed to be able to break through samurai armor which was made of wood/bamboo. I'm not sure how true this is or if it will help or not.
  19. Sounds like fun. Great idea
  20. Yes I believe it just came out recently.
  21. I also prefer to parry and move to their back.
  22. The DVD has the option of English or subtitles I chose English.
