Just Got my black belt yesterday
the beast replied to jamesdow5419's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
Congrats ! It is the first step in a long journey. -
It sounds to me that this guy is wearing his ego around his waist. A blackbelt means more than being a good fighter. It has alot to do with honor and respect.

I'm just saying that I don't think you would have much time to try for submissions, so even if it does get to the ground you should know how to strike effectively from any position. If you do get an arm bar or whatever hold on the guy, if he taps don't let go. I read a story a while back about a BJJ practitioner at a tournament who was challenged outside afterwards by some thug. The BJJ guy got a hold on the thug, the thug tapped and because of his training the BJJ guy let go of the hold, the thug got up and stabbed him repeatedly.

I couldn't agree more. Like I tell the students at our dojo who love to grapple, going to the ground may be good for the cage,or anywhere that rules are in place but on the street they will get your head stomped in . I think throws, clinch work , and takedown defense is are very important also, but being on the ground is the last place you want to be in a self defense situation.

What style, What Rank or Grade.

Shotokan, about 4 years, shodan -
Were these the training gloves or the comp. gloves. I have the training gloves that have padding around the wrist they seem very well made and the extra padding is nice. The only thing I don't like (as you said )is the huge ufc logo on the knuckles, but for the price a good glove.

Congrats !

Absolutely even though you will see alot of experienced point fighters keeping their guard down . This will show you who trains for tourneys and who actually trains for a real fight. " Keep em up! Good luck have fun and let us know how you do.

I think the best thing to do would be to transport them in your trunk, they can't search without probable cause. If you do have them in your backseat keep them out in the open where if you do get pulled over the officer can see them ( they are no longer concealed ) then when he asks about them you can explain the situation. I'm by no means an expert on law but this just sounds logical to me.

Self-Defense against Rape
the beast replied to Johnlogic121's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I believe that the use of deadly force would definitely be justified in this situation. It's better to tried by 12 than carried by 6 . -
15,000 Keep em coming. Congrats Brian

Oh yeah !! That used to happen to me all the time so I quit using chalk and just worked out with sweaty hands, and a really tight grip. It made my grip pretty strong.

If the confrontation cant be avoided....
the beast replied to cross's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I like to consider it like a hand grenade. if you are inside my reach you are inside my killing radius. I use this alot because I hate people invading my personal space( close talkers etc.) even if they are non aggressive I usually make them back off. -
Glad to hear that you decided to stick it out. Just keep a positive outlook and keep working hard, you'll do great.

If the confrontation cant be avoided....

I agree with your perception there. Someone can curse you or insult you in the worst possible way in order to provoke or antagonize a fight but if someone is disciplined enough to shrug that off then a fight can "probably" be avoided. That being said, there is still the type of sicko out there who actually WANTS to physically fight and WILL throw the first punch or shove or whatever to get it started. To me, once someone puts their hands on me, then there is no question of whether or not there is going to be a fight. I totally agree with you Tiger any confrontation can be avoided until the other person lays hands on you, then it's go time. -
I know that baseball pitchers use a rosin bag, and gymnasts, weightlifters use chalk. Chalk can get very messy, so maybe the rosin bag would work, I just don't know what effect this would have on your bo's finish.
