I would just like to take a moment to wish everyone a Happy New Year. May the road rise up to meet your feet and the wind be always at your back. May this year be better than the last. Once again Happy New Year to everyone.

From the way you describe yourself it sounds like you were made for karate. You will do great. As for progressing through the ranks it's like tallgeese said it's a marathon not a sprint. It sounds like you'll pick up everything pretty easy but promotions will depend on your instructor. Best of Luck

If I did that, I'd have some terrible gas during comps. I'd have to throw out an extra kihap to cover up a fart! Just try not to do it with your back to the judges.

Ok now that Christmas is over I would first like to say I hope everyone had a good one, but now the important stuff. What MA related gifts did you receive?

I have seen this in other sports as well when parents won't bring their kids to practice but still expect their kids to play. This is another example of parents ruining things for their kids.

No one ever dies in comics and stays gone long I think that is what is so great about them.

Should young black belts instruct the adult class
the beast replied to granitemiller's topic in Karate
I have no problems with junior bbs running warm ups, but that is as far as it should go. They should not be instructing adults, for the same reasons that Granitemiller stated, they don't know the same curriculum. I mean would you feel comfortable letting a junior high student run your company?? As far as schools awarding 2nd, 3rd dans etc to children I'm totally against it. I think this just brings down the credibility of the school ( makes it look like a belt store ). -
I find it so hard not to do that! We also have to put our left hand under our elbow so I usually catch myself just as the arm is moving. Was horrible last year as I had loads of interviews for the universities I applied to and I was praying that the lecturers didn't notice! I've caught myself doing that as well. Its a tough habit to break! Not necessarily a bad habit though.

The name Beast came from my wife and everyone in our dojo calling me a Beast so it just stuck.

I like to eat really light before a tournament (normally just a piece of fruit) which is really a bad idea because it means going all day without anything else to eat. Just recently we started bringing food granola bars fruit etc.this really helped at the last one we went to. As far as eating before competing I guess it would all depend on what you eat. A small snack up to 10 minutes before competing probably wouldn't hurt. Hope this helps.

What is your definition of an "MA technique?"
the beast replied to bushido_man96's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Wow thats a great question . I would say that a MA technique could be defined as any technique that can be used in a defensive situation when protecting self or others. -

I would have to say that any weapon you throw (shuriken, throwing knives etc.) would have to be the least practical because once you use it its gone.

This just helps drive home the fact that you learn more by losing than you do by winning.

I haven't really had anything like this but I have had dejavu where I dream of something happening or even a conversation and maybe a month goes by and I find myself having the same conversation word for word.(strange)

Yeah this one looks great, I'm a huge Wolverine fan. To answer Bushido man I'm not sure how old he is he was in ww2 though so I'm going to guess around 80.
