  1. Happy Birthday! Hey at least you can get senior citizen discounts.
  2. This has more to do with the values, or lack thereof, of what the kid learns at home, than what the kid learned at an MMA school. Wrestling gets on just fine at the high school level, and MMA could too, given the right setup and rules enforcements. Isolating and incident like this, and blaming it on MMA is like islolating a criminal carrying a gun, and then taking away the right to carry firearms for the general public. What happens it that the public is in greater danger then, because they have to jump through hoops to carry legally, where a criminal is going to carry regardless. Restricting an activity like this kind of falls along the same lines, in my mind. I'm just saying that when these kids watch TUF and see how most of the fighters disrespect each other with trash talking (ala WWE) and what not. They think it's fine to treat other people that way,and since MMA is a sport, and like other sports it's all about winning, there are no values like ( honor discipline and respect )being taught. Even though these values should also be taught in the home.
  3. Welcome aboard!!
  4. I haven't seen it yet but it does look hilarious.
  5. A wise man once said "You learn more by losing than you could ever learn by winning."
  6. I totally disagree with young "kids" training in MMA. For the simple reason that it doesn't instill the values (honor, discipline, and respect ) that one gets from training in traditional MA. Just an example that actually happened to my son who trains in shotokan. This kid in his school tackled him in the hall and was choking him, when the kid let go he told my son not to mess with him because he does MMA. I like to believe that this wouldn't have happened with a traditional martial artist, because of the values stated above.
  7. Welcome aboard!!
  8. Your bo should be at least as tall as you. Seeing as your 5'11" I would say get a 6' bo
  9. I say go for it. Look at it as a learning experience and a great chance to meet people from other schools and other styles. The main thing is not to get too wrapped up in the competition and just do your best and have fun with it.
  10. At our dojo new students get a free week of class which is the same training that everyone else in the dojo gets with the exception of their first day in which they get one on one with one of the senseis to go over some basic kihon
  11. Welcome aboard !
  12. Welcome!
  13. The whole idea of a top level athlete like Mayweather not being able to make weight really aggravates me. I mean this is their job they should always stay within reach of their fighting weight.
  14. Welcome aboard !!
  15. Because of it's shape it doesn't bounce back in a straight line. I can definitely see where this could help with hand eye coordination.
  16. Welcome aboard!
  17. Welcome back.
  18. Wow this sounds alot like how I got started. Welcome aboard!
  19. Mine is just from my years in the Marine Corps.
  20. I totally agree, I think that the big promotions (UFC,WEC.etc) are afraid that female fights wont draw the large crowd that the men do, thereby hurting their revenue from these events, and this is a risk they just arent willing to take.
  21. Welcome aboard !!
  22. Here's something I did a while ago. I got a lawn timber and stuck it in a 5 gallon bucket of cement and buried the bucket in the ground, then wrapped the post in foam, carpet padding would work also, and wrapped the foam in duct tape.
