Unconventional breaks
kchenault replied to Black Dragon's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I would have to agree. Try throwing some jump and flying kicks in there if possible. -

The assault happened when he was hit for asking a question, not because that is the old method. You don't pay someone to hit you for asking a question, he has a legitimate concern and should be treated accordingly. That is the point I am trying to make. I agree with your comments on male only clubs though. -
Guys, Battle Angel Alita will make you all cry for your mommy! It is anime in the traditional sense, but it Rocks! I do not use a pocket protector, thank you very little. But I do work for engineers. Heheh....

You should try something really flashy with multiple breaks. One or two hand techniques that end in a flying reverse kick over several people. Something crazy. What have you done before? -
Just a quick note, it's all anime. It's just not Japanese anime. I'm just picking here I know, but I couldn't help myself. Star Trek names is a very goo life skill. Everyone knows ST! Rock on monkeygirl! WOW! Eight years old in the 90's? I was living on my own at that point. AHHHH, I remember the days before children......

Has anyone noticed he hasn't posted a response lately? He may be uncomfortable with being in so close a proximity with a woman who is not his wife. I think karate_woman nailed it, maybe they have convictions about touching another woman. Where is the tolerance for him. I would be more concerned with the sensei giving him a bloody lip for the request. In America that is assault and battery. That would probably get a Sensei at least 30 days in the clink. There is nothing wrong with his request. I have personally seen women only gyms. The hypocrisy knows no bounds of the politically correct in the world! -
Um help?

Try Krav Maga. I don' take it but everything I have read about states it is a nasty look at self-defense. Not girly in any way. It is also supposed to flow with natural human instinct. JMO. Good luck. -
My name is not. It is Ken. Which rhymes with Ben! Yeah! That's something ain't it? Maybe not.

Put them both on or keep the one you want. I wouldn't change. -
I just thought I would point that out. Sometimes in America in today's age, some here forget that this is the rule of law, not the other way around. Thanks for the clarafication though Bart. The only court that doesn't have this burden here in the States is the Internal Revenue Service. There you have to prove your innocence.

I am originally from IL. Monmouth to be exact. I live in KS now. Sorry I couldn't help. It might help to say where you are from exactly.

Speaking of guilt, Kobe is innocent until PROVEN guilty. But this is also none of my business. The media should not be involved in the case either, IMHO.

MMA vs. Reality

JohnnyS: I said it was a MINOR snow job. The UFC is very misleading in its marketing campaign. Touted as being the most brutal and anything goes tourney around at the time. It was all marketing which is based on half truths most of the time. Also my posts started out by saying the writer of thearticle had a point about limiting techniques and such in a supposed anything goes tourney. I simply meant that everyone in those tourneys are at a disadvantage to see who is really the best because of the rules and limitations. That format favors the grapplers, and I hope that is readily seen by everyone. Also my original post stands. Come to Prospect Street in KC MO and stay after dark and they will be taking you away in a body bag by morning. Nastiest street in the city. That was the point of my posts, simply giving credence to the writers view on his life and training in that part of the city. If what he says is true, then I believe he would win the fight. That will be all I say, because everyones tone on this subject tends to be nastier and nastier. Eveyone here tends to hold things to close to the heart and too tightly. Lighten up everyone. -

I am like Aragorn. That's what it says about me. I can live with that.

The next time you have to pair up, run to someone else before she gets to you. Simple enough. If she asks, tellher it's not good to practice with the same person everytime. You need variety to catch a range of styles and tendencies.

Ms. Chantal Anderson, an instructor at New Horizons TKD in Lawrence, KS was killed in a car accident Monday, August 18th, 2003. I considered her a friend and will miss the way her face lit up when she would talk about clocking some guy in tournament who wouldn't keep his hands up. She was 25 years old and my prayers and condolences go out to her family and friends who knew her far better than I. Chantal, you will be missed. http://www.nhtkd.com/assets/images/CAnderson2_copy.jpg

MMA vs. Reality
kchenault replied to aznkarateboi's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Throw out all the rules in the "No Holds Barred" competition and then see how Royce would do against someone taking out his eye. And before you cry foul again, the UFC was touted as a free for all event when it first came out, and yet it had rules. It was a setup job by the Gracies to show off their grappling skills, which are formidible, but a "minor" snow job none the less. They are GREAT marketers and know how to work the system. Just my opinion and nothing more, so don't start bashing me or my character. 'Nuff said. -

I just read the article. I have to say he has a point. I haven't bothered to read 90% of the posts as I know of the streets he names in the beginning of his article. They are not some place to be after dusk, and some like Prospect, you don't want to go down at all, no matter what time of day it is. They are streets in Kansas City, MO. They are the bad part of town and if this guy grew up on them, he probably could take Royce Gracie. -

It's TAE KWON DO. Being a Christian isn't about personal wants, it's about selflessness. This discussion needs to get back on topic please. I would humbly ask that you take the discussion of HP, Magic and other things to another thread. Thanks. I would like this thread to stay civil and open. The emphasis is not if your point of view is right or wrong, it is whether or not Chrisitians can participate in the martial arts effectively with their faith and practices. I believe the answer to be a large YES! -
