Martial Arts in the public school system.
kchenault replied to manuelito's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Football is an afterschool program. So are all school sanctioned sports. Martial arts would be no different. As many schools in Kansas have found out in the past 2-3 years, sports are not a right, they are a privilege. Many parents have to pay extra in this state for their children to play. Education is not about extra curricular activities. The martial arts in public school comes in when the school gives use of the building, and makes it a sport that males and females can both participate in and their is only one instructor. Equipment costs would be cheaper as students would pay for their own "uniform"and equipment. It would also be a year round sport, there is no season. Having one unified team would get you Title IX funds very quickly to help pay for it. It would be cheaper than most sports that are funded by public schools already. -
Martial Arts in the public school system.

Those should be the people that are, unfortunately, screened out, or taken in and shown the disciplined and orderly side of the martial arts. All students would be taught the full depth of the Arts, not just fighting techniques. That is what would make it work and worth doing in the long run. -

Chuck Norris has done this with great success. Check out the site. http://www.kick-start.org/ As for style, it should be whoever is willing to come and teach their style to the kids. Discipline and physical fitness is a plus in this obese nation of ours. And anyone who abuses their training should be disciplined and or kicked out. That is my opinion though. Possibly a screening process for students. I would be for it, because not everyone is cut out for football or the other traditional school sponsored sports. -

Silent Rage. Great Chuck flick from the early eighties. Lone Wolf McQuade is one of my favorites. -

Thanks for the interesting link TDA. Also, the slap or hit is correct, but Jesus also talked about someone robbing you. The whole taking of your cloak, give them your shirt as well thing. Walk the extra mile, etc... Thanks for keeping the discussion going. This has been the most popular thread I have ever started. Thanks to everyone who has participated in this one, for or against. It has been kept civil and for the most part, on subject. It's what KF has always been about. -
The Last Samurai

Actually the narrator was the British photographer, but we got glimpses of story from the Algren character through his journal. The narrator said he didn't know what happened to the American, but liked to think he lived out his days in Japan. -
Dude, let the Batman thing go already. Also, I personally love Spidey, but on his best day, the most he would do would be to break his hands and feet on the Hulk. Just don't see it happening.
-
Hey Beka, you and I agree on something! WOW! What are the odds?
-
The Hulk. He would kill Spidey. Literally squash him like a bug.

That's a little condescending, don't ya think? Do you even remember much of the mid to late 80's? It was a very scary time to be alive. I remember as a teenager, the fear of being blown to atoms by nuclear weapons. And not all Christians are backwoods Southerners. Religious freedom is a right given by the Constitution. The same can't be said for other things being shoved down believers throats in this day and age. But I veer far away from the subject I started. Criminals don't play by the rules, and America's law enforcement doesn't do, or is not allowed to do, it's job most times. Too bad for the Australians, but we don't have to let it happen to us here.
-
That would not apply to America. Things that are not specifically allowed are actually pushed on most folks in this country and things that are allowed, are trying to be taken away. Just ask the ACLU.
-
You talkin' ta me? YOU TALKIN' TA ME? I thought you was talkin' ta me. Sloppy DeNiro, I know. I personally view socialism as communism lite. I am a Constitution believing, right wing, conservative. I don't believe the Constituion is a living document, I believe they said what they meant. It was not meant to change but to be amended. But that is another can of worms. I will hold you to your word Beka.

Comics made into movies

They are all live action and straight to video. The Punisher stars Dolph Lundgren. The other two were extremely cheesey, so much so, that I would not even rent them. -

F.F. and Captain America were made in the early 90's. So was the Punisher. -

need some help on axe kick
kchenault replied to zerolimitii's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
When I broke a board with an axe kick, I left the leg straight, swinging in an inside/outside crescent kick, BUT, pulling the leg straight down on the board at center, instead of continuing the crescent kick outwards. The crescent was also muted, or less circular. The way I was taught was that the leg is straight the whole kick. Watch the movie Best of the Best for a great axe kick by the main character in the last match. That is how it should be done. Pilsung!
