  1. Anonymous, would you say Ernie Reyes, Jr. was not worthy of his black belt at such a young age? I wouldn't. It all comes down to individual children. I know some adults who aren't worthy of their rank mentally. Check out Ernie's style, technique, strength and list of wins in the adult division from his early career sometime. Very interesting...
  2. Any person with a communicable disease should have the courage to be upfront with the school and instructors. They should, even if the disease is no fault of their own, have the courage to accept the, sometimes unfortunate, side effects of having a disease. Tragic as it is, they now have a responsibilty to the public health to take precautions, for their well being as well as others. They have so much courage to continue to live their lives with the disease, what would be a little more? I would happily work on many things with someone who was HIV+, but sparring, for safety's sake, is not one of them. I commend anyone who wishes to keep healthy thru the martial arts.
  3. I can't believe how far this post got off topic. In most schools, the bow is about respect. If you don't like to bow for religious reasons then don't. But don't be surprised when they kick you out. TKD_McGee you are being very hateful in your diatribe. As a fellow Christian I must call you to task for your un-lovingkindness. Ask yourself, what would Jesus do. He would speak the TRUTH in LOVE. Bone up on the LOVE part. To another part of the post. No disrespect to muslims, but our God is very different than your Allah. One more thing, it is a great shame that most times Christians take part in these shameful lawsuits that happen in America. Spill hot coffee on yourself and sue the people that made the coffee hot and win. Something is very wrong in this country's legal system and the fix starts within ourselves and our faith and our beliefs. GOD bless!
  4. I have three. A small griffen I got when I was 19. Could only afford $40. Still a nice tat. The second I got when my daughter was born. A green Japanese dragon on the left shoulder on my back. OUCH! going over the shoulder blade. The third I got after my first son was born. A white tiger climbing a mountain. Opposite shoulder on back. I want at least two more for the two sons I have had since then but I donate plasma to pay for TKD and I can't get one until I quit doing that. So the kids share the tats as their own. Come to think of it, the chest one didn't feel to great. And I sweat buckets each time.
  5. You take out anything that teaches restraint, morality, and any kind of absolute and see what happens to a society. Any empire of the past that has thrown out its morals has wound up in the dung heap of history. The Roman,Greek, Medo-Persian, and Babylonian empires all fell after they gave up their morals for moral relativism. Hey what's right for you may not be right for me. Or how about this one, "If it feels good, do it." Really think about it.
  6. Three60, the "Serial" in serial killer refers to the fact that some M.O. can be attributed to this one killer. Much like serial numbers. the killers rack up victims. Sometimes they have something in common, sometimes they don't. Son of Sam used an unusual .44 caliber pistol. He used this one five shot gun for every murder he commited. And he usually attacked people in sets of two. Just to clarify.

  8. Pilsung! Welcome!
  9. I studied Moo Duk Kwan TKD for 2 1/2 years, 4th kup, and now I am studying ITF TKD learning ITF and WTF hyung, yellow belt. I also have studied a little Hapkido.
  10. Hello to everyone. I hope to learn some new thing here and maybe contribute a little as well.
  11. Front snap kick to stomach or groin, sidestep with a sidekick to the out side of the knee. Quick and painful. Tell me what you think.
  12. TKD can be very effective in a confrontation. If you train hard and work on techniques that are practical and effective. I would only recommend jump, spinning or "fancy" kicks as finishing techniques, and then only if you are 100% sure you can connect. But be careful, these kicks can be some of the most damaging. Think of the legal implications you could face for protecting yourself. Too much force used can turn the attacker into a victim in the eyes of the law. Also, don't go to ground in an altercation if all you know is TKD. You have a very good chance of getting hurt for lack of ground fighting skills. The best advice? Learn as much as you can in several different styles. Some soft styles, some hard styles, some grappling. The best tasting meals are usually the ones that have a diverse flavor comprised of many ingredients. Pilsung!
