Tobias, come back to earth buddy. -
Uh.....I don't think so. When I say fine sand, I mean the kind you find in a sandbox. Sawdust won't do anything but flare up you allergies.

How hard is it to break three boards at once?

Thank you very much, uh...but which one? I put three in there! -
You could punch into a bucket of fine sand. That will help calluses form on the knuckles. Kind of annoying until you get used to it though.

How is breaking most important to you

All of the above. Breaking is a good way of developing all of these areas. Technique not right? Board may not break but you striking appendage might. Poor control? Hurt the holder and yourself. Nothing like breaking a hard object to boost ones self esteem. Not enough power? board may not break, even with proper technique. I have seen it all before, many times. -

How hard is it to break three boards at once?
kchenault replied to kchenault's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well, I didn't break three at once. I am instead working on a Breaking Excellence patch. 10 breaks, 10 different techniques. Gotta say, those were the hardest boards I have ever had to break. The wood must have been green. You can see a cuople pics of me in the photo album. Thanks for the encouragement last week everyone! -
Luck!

your first board break
kchenault replied to ZeRo's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
OMG! It's wolvie, magneto, and the cajun! My first break was a front snap kick. My second was a roundhouse. Those boards didn't stand a chance. Congrats ZeRo! -

Dell all the way. Best customer service in the biz. Computers aren't bad either.

You would really have to fill it busting at the seams. You could go with a wave bag from Century or the like. They fill with water. I had a 70lb bag once that filled with water. Worked pretty well. You will have to decide on hanging or pedestal type as well. Canvas or vinyl, or leather. Wear bag gloves on leather or canvas.

OOOOOO...I love it when they talk tuff. Some people don't understand the concept of "One hit, one kill". That's why they are always yelling at me, "Combinations! Throw combinations!" I'm not in it for the sport. (Read as, "I suck at sport TKD , therefore I am not in it for the sport .") -

How hard is it to break three boards at once?

Thanks EVERYONE! I greatly appreciate the input. I'm not after flash, I just know that the jump reverse kick is one of my strongest kicks and I am not too bad at it if I say so myself.(toot, toot) If I can get the wife to take pictures, maybe then I will have something to post in the forum. Thanks again everybody! Pilsung! -
How hard is it to break three boards at once?
kchenault replied to kchenault's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well, I should have passed my green belt testing from this past weekend, so I will be attempting the jump reverse kick, also affectionately known as the jump spinning back kick. It is one of my favorite kicks for speed and power. My dojang has a rule that you generally don't use techniques that you have not been taught. That said, I should be taught the kick tomorrow when I am promoted. How about spinning wheel kick? To tuff on the heel? Keep the advice coming folks, I am all ears. It's also gonna depend on whether or not they want to let me do it. Thanks Deb for the vote of confidence. How about a ridge hand for a single break? -

That's not just wrong. It's ridiculous. A black belt of a 'do' art should know the basics of the concept of 'do' (i.e. 'tao'), that is, (s)he should be able to live and teach zen philosophy to students. That's why all the arts I've ever been in contact with personally, have had a minimum age for black belt. The lowest minimum age I've seen has been 18 years. My guess is that the child black belts are something that the americans came up a couple of decades ago, when the symbolism of a black belt status wasn't that common a knowledge in there? Someone have a different idea? We don't even teach Zen philosophy at our dojang. I'm 32, should I not get a BB when the time comes then? I wouldn't live a "zen" life anyway, there are things about Zen that go against my religious beliefs.

YMCA Martial Arts programs.
kchenault replied to HongKongFooey's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
A YMCA program is where I got my first taste of MA. Good instructor means good program. -
Asked my co-worker but he couldn't think of a chinese name, only the teacup exercise. He showed it to me and it was very graceful and interesting to watch. Sorry I couldn't be of more service. Twisted like a pretzel. Pretty cool stuff. Pilsung!
